With relegation looming, or at the very best we scrape up, the owners have massively overplayed the squad whilst letting the spine of the the team
Be sold for peanuts, trying to replace quality with panic buys that stand nowhere near their equivalent.

What worries me most in all this is we have absolutely ZERO idea, if the new owners can sustain relegation or a best keep us afloat in the Champ.

The SILENCE IS DEAFENING!! and scary as fuck..

Just take a look across the city to what fan inaction can do to a club…..

Either speak up COH.. or sell and fuck off!

Wow….want are you on an out? Do you realise it’s ONE game with the new manager and latest new players.
If Wilder had won…would you be saying we’re going to get promoted?

There’s still 40 matches last…almost a full season….plenty of time to correct anything….zero reason to panic.
We have good players and a good manager….on paper should easily finish top half however agree its a concern we’re not creating any chances
But as I said Wilder is an experienced manager with a great track record….he has loads of options…logic suggests he’ll find a solution at some point soon.
However even at this early stage, play-offs is starting to look tricky.

The owners don’t need to talk….what would you expect them to say? It’s obvious if they’ve paid 100 million for the club they want it back and want promotion.
They will have probably been advised to keep communication to a minimum as it’s always twisted as a negative.
An example is the owners admitting their are using the latest technology (AI) regards finding low costs players and instead of being impressed our fans think it’s a stupid idea and now believe that every player and even the manager have been selected using AI.

Their actions are showing their high ambitions.
Everybody predicted we’d sell our best players Hamer and Cooper but I explained they would only be sold for big money…gone are the days of selling players off cheap…however next season we might need to make massive budget cuts so in order to avoid points deductions we might have to no choice to sell anyone on a salary. I also explained the owners are very ambitious and they are cut throat, if Selles doesn’t produce he would be quickly sacked.

So what do you think we should have done with the players in the last years of their contract? I personally think 20m for Souza and Anel was decent business. As was the money for moore at the time.

What was poor is the recruitment strategy that followed. We went from data driven youth punts to seemingly anyone that was available.

Recruiting players virtually with hours to spare, in the window, had the fingerprints of the Prince all over it! He openly said as the sale was concluded he'd passed on any advice what could help them, he was a big believer in waiting while the end of the window, to Recruiting players and openly said " you get better value for players" so in my book hes as much to blame as the owners!!

That’s a fair criticism regards the transfer policy.

I understand when Summer started we have a A list of 1st choice targets,
a B list just in case we miss out on the 1st choice targets and
a C list, when we’re a bit desperate, so at least we can act quick if our main choices all fall down.

Think last year we got most of our 1st choice targets….the patience paid off…altho I think Wilder might have played a part in persuading players to join us.
But this Summer we missed out on many of them and had to settle for B list targets (still good players) with the odd C list target.

It’s all a gamble….having patience and waiting usually means you pick up better players at a cheaper price
But the risk is….if you miss out or are blackmailed with high asking prices, you’re then forced to look at B list targets.

Relegation will NOT happen this season. Absolutely not. There I've said it. Not being promoted this or next season would create a whole new ball game without parachute payments tho it'd be back to regular midtable obscurity like Watford, Stoke, Cardiff etc did once the extra income disappeared

We will stay in the mire until January when Wilder will have to wheel and deal and get rid of a load of players he doesn't want. Then he can sign some players with the guts for a battle until then it's not going change much at all.

It's too early to say we will be relegated after only six games, especially since Chris Wilder only started last week. Give him a chance. No need to panic, I am confident He will turn us around. Starting next Saturday at Oxford.

Six games in and we are doomed. Wow, I sometimes think people want us to be shite just to have a bloody good moan about how shit it is.
Let's bring this thread back in 10 games time to see if the alarm bells were actually ringing at all.
Keep the faith FFS.

I think part of the problem, and indeed my main worry at this time, is that we are now on our 2nd manager this season and neither has looked like even trying to implement a formation that gets the best out of the players we have available.

Selles seemed to be absolutely wedded to his 433 formation even though Stevie Wonder himself could see it wasn't working and it ultimately cost him his job. That being said I genuinely think he realised after a few games this wasn't the job for him and probably stuck to the formation in order to speed up his payoff. There can't really be many other reasons for his team selection at Ipswich if we're being honest.

The more worrying thing for me is Wilder in his 1st press conference after he was re appointed basically said something along the lines of "it should be obvious to everyone what formation we'll play on Saturday" or words to that effect so we knew we were getting 4231 before the teams were even announced. Again a formation that blatantly doesn't suit the group of players we have. It's the same one that served up absolute dross for most of the 2nd half of last season. Ironically we started to look a lot better when we went to the trusty old 442 towards the end.

I honestly don't want to sound like I'm saying I know better than a professional manager but the issues are staring us straight in the face surely.

  • We haven't got a striker suited to playing the lone striker role.
  • We haven't got any competent wingers on either flank, although Ogbene shouldn't be written off after 1 game.
  • We haven't got any fullbacks suited to a back 4.
  • We haven't got a genuine box to box midfielder who can break lines.
  • We have an abundance of centre backs.
If anyone can tell me, after reading the above, how we can be setting up either 433 or 4231 then I'm all ears??

Someone above stated we don't have a Duffy or Brooks from CW's ultra successful 1st spell. I'd counter we have someone just as good as either but at present we don't seem to be making the most of him.

For the record I'd set up something like this but hey I'm not being paid a million quid a year to make those decisions so what do I know 🤷‍♂️ .

Yes, we usually do well in must win games at Oxf... oh

Presume you’ve put all your savings on boro’s promotion? I mean they’re top of the league so it’s a banker

Their confidence was destroyed at Wembley, they were then baffled and broken by Selles

This is like turning round an oil tanker, but oil tankers do turn remember

Relegated after just six games. I'm sad now.

Sign of modern society where everyone wants everything instantaneously and if they don't get it, the world is going to end!!

People wanted to swipe right to get rid of Wilder at the end of last season, swipe left to bring in Selles and then swipe right to get rid of him...

He's one of our own. Every little thing is gonna be alright. Maybe. Hopefully.

Relegation is certainly a possibility. It's not looming

What does "overplayed the squad" mean?

Anel and Souza wanted to leave. We got market level fees for them. Getting Moore off the books was good business (not replacing him is the issue).

What evidence could they give you of their financial intentions on a hypothetical?

What are you scared of? United will continue to function at whatever level they can afford.

Dies "Fuck off" mean you want them to sell? Because they won't tell you what their plans are for something that hasn't happened yet? Dude, chill.

This is pretty much the suggestion I made in another thread.

At least there's 2 of us that think this might work (I've not seen the rest of the thread to see if there are more of us wallys obviously, as it doesn't seem to be in either managers thoughts).

Top post and similar to what I’ve been saying on other threads. My major worry from Saturday is that CW ‘resumed’ the same mistakes he made at the end of last season. We cannot continue with a wingers system when we have no wingers and zero pace. We cannot keep playing one up front when none of our strikers can do this role. We cannot keep playing Peck based on a few months of being decent last season. We cannot keep trying to fit Hamer and O Hare in the same team. You have to adapt to the players you have and this means we must go to 5 3 2 as you set out with your line up. The only change I’d make there is dropping Peck for either Soumare or Davies if he can get out of bed without getting injured.

I wouldn’t say big trouble yet, but the wheel nuts are loose.

I disagree that it doesn’t matter whether COH communicate or not. They’re not even speaking to the press or the podcasters. I find that very odd.

There’s time to turn things round of course. I’m just not too impressed by COH so far that’s all
