I know some don't listen, some say they don't and they do, but lately I've noticed a bit of a trend toward taking decent blades fans opinions and rubbishing them, not just rubbishing them by the way, but doing it with quite an aggressive attitude toward the caller..

Think it was two nights ago an older fella when challenged by (dunno) to validate a claim that mcabe was a liar and sold at the first shot, the caller replied with the Beattie flu story, we were all aware that the ink was dry on the signing and of course this turned out to be true, caller pointed out that mcabe was still telling fans he was ill, when really he was having a medical at Stoke..

Radio Sheffield guy got pretty angry at being proved wrong, and the caller was pressed in a bullying manner with his sidekick chirping along in the background like a couple of bully's backing each other up.. It stank, the caller was right and met the challenge laid down by the "jock" then got harassed off the air pretty much by them (they talked like a couple of cunts to him truth be told)

They seem to only want to agree with anybody who agrees with their opinion, and the show seems to be more about them flexing their muscles against blades over the airwaves, would they talk like that in the street to us? Possibly not, so why when they're behind a Mike in a warm studio do they as a group show so little respect, with Unitedites their backs go up like a shot even when they're bang wrong..

We have to be careful or else the comedy attention seeking ramblings of Brian will be engineered by this station to become the official mouthpiece of all things Sheffield United as far as a fans point of view goes, anybody with a brain cell appears to be chased off the airwaves, shouted down, or cut off leaving Brian's crazy talk as the opinion of us all..

I know some of you have clocked out years ago but those who still listen in, Just keep an ear open for the aggressive tone being taken with real Unitedites when they air their issues, when the issues are real and concerning to our club you can hear the tone the tone change instantly...

I suspect there is an element of self interest on the part of RS - some mandate along the lines of don't upset the club or its hierarchy and upset our access lines to them. RS is not known for its crusading or journalistic intent except when they are absolutely certain it won't affect their long term interests and relationships. You are right though - I listen to RS and they do seem to get very aggressive with callers with critical opinions who have some credibility in what they say and how they say it lately. The other callers are dragged on like a washed up comedian so the smug gits can ridicule and lampoon them (Brian the Blade etc).

It's become fashionable to bash the fans.

We're too negative
Our expectations are too high
We create a poor atmosphere
We intimidate players
We get angry when we're getting bossed by shit teams.

All of these are arguments used against our fans, usually BY our fans in recent weeks.

It's radio, they love people who are controversial and if they're not, they'll try and create a bit of controversy or provide the sometimes ridiculous response just to spark debate. There's no hidden agenda, of course the presenters have their own views and support their own teams but from what I've heard over the years there's no particular preference to either side of the city although they will, of course, major on success for whoever at that time.

Just like on here, sensible threads may have 20 replies, a rant or controversial post with dodgy comments will have hundreds.

Have always thought that Rob Staton - superb commentator & interviewer; excellent phone-in host when the going is good - has a tendency to be domineering when fans are unhappy, going overboard to "correct" them even when they're making valid points, rather than just letting them have their say. It was the same with Paul Walker.

Andy Giddings follows this "party line" & does similar. But Jonathan Buchan's far better at not interjecting & just letting fans say what the need to say & allowing them to let off some steam - he's the best of the phone-in hosts by far IMO.

Don't think it's got anything to do with any intrinsic Wendy bias personally, just think it's down to the individual presenters' own personality traits.

Wow, a story about

Shock jocks vs locals.

It's called ratings and entertainment,

..........nothing to see.

It's about personalities and perceptions. It's not good radio to just agree, they need to engender discussion.

From a Blades point of view, our perception is that we are the number one team in the area. Unfortunatly the league tables don't support that perception. Clearly they will always priorities the teams by current level of success.

This leads some blades to perceive a 'bias'. They can also only put on air those that phone in and it's clear some days callers are thin on the ground, hence you get a lengthy discussion with them.

I used to listen, I no longer do, but if you don't like it you know where the off switch is.

The 'Keyboard Warriors' thing sums that up perfectly - Adkins made mention of 'people getting on their computers' or similar but never actually used the phrase 'Keyboard Warriors' - in summing up the interview Rob Staton said 'So then Blades fans, Adkins says you're all keyboard warriors - how do you react to that?'. Cue a couple of callers saying they'll never go again while he's in charge they've never been so insulted etc etc but then a third caller tried to make a point about people receiving abuse on twitter and Rob absolutely laid into him about it. Classic 'shock' radio - create controversy, stir people up then have a go at them when they're offended by it. It's turning into Talksp*rt.

Are we Keyboard warriors if we discuss it on here? o_O

Think you are spot on there Jim, but I think some dim wits get too much air time to bash the club and manager when they don't even go
to the lane.Brian the so called blade is a classic example he only goes when he gets an invite to a box never pays to go in, he is never a trueblade .

I have a drive home from Huddersfield from 6 every evening so regularly tune in. Rob Staton, good commentator but the worst type of stirrer. He's been bleating on since the McCabe interview, every single night, sometimes more than once, that McCabe stressed "Nigel Adkins will certainly be here next season" followed by "what do you make of that, United fans?". In truth, Staton pushed McCabe on the issue and McCabe was initially guarded in his response but made no such assurance:

Rob Staton: "...are you saying that whatever happens, Nigel Adkins will still be the manager next season?"

Kevin McCabe: "Err.. I'm saying that I believe in Nigel. Nigel's here with the task to get us promoted this season and beyond."

RS: "It's not exactly the most handsome endorsement though is it that you back him? Either he is going to be here next season whether you win promotion or not, ultimately."

KM: "Well look, things happen in any sport, whether you talk football or business generally. I expect Nigel to be with us next season, without any shadow of doubt, yes."

As far as I'm concerned, that says to me that McCabe "EXPECTS" Nigel to achieve the task of getting us "promoted this season and beyond". That's it! So where the fuck Staton gets "Nigel Adkins will certainly be here next season" from, I can only imagine that he's lining up his next morsel of controversy to use should United sack NA upon failure to win promotion.

As he said in the interview, there were 700 Blades fans at Bury but countless others (and I hold my hand up) who will comment based on what they have heard from others, be it the commentary or reports / posts. Unfortunately, it's easy to pick up on certain comments if they fit whatever agenda you have and again, unfortunately, the controversial or loudest shouters will get the biggest airplay be it on here or on the radio. A prime example was in the interview we're talking about when Adkins had made several comments but Andy Giddins picked him up on 'it'll get worse before it gets better'. To be fair to him, that's what we probably wanted answering but it's an example of highlighting potential controversy rather than discussing what he's trying to achieve.

I'd imagine they are hoping to broaden their caller base. Not just United with Brian, Depressive Sean and Ian formerly Blackpool now Eckington but still boring Blade. All the local clubs have them. (Pick of the bunch being Crying Mick from Rawmarsh who Staton appears to thoroughly enjoy disagreeing with despite both being pigs).

I don't get all of this complaining the the local press are for some reason against us that is often spouted by supporters on both sides of the city when they quite clearly aren't. Their job is to present a radio show not to jump up the arse of the caller and agree with everything. Compared to other local radio stations that I've had the *cough* pleasure *cough* if listening to then I'd say RS/FH is very good.

Just to clear it up,
Paul walker and Seth bennet (now only on VERY occasionally) are blades
I believe giddings and buchan are from the other part of Yorkshire (shudder)
And I don't know about staton.

Giddings Halifax. Buchan Leeds.

Staton was a regular poster on PorkTalk. ( I see him as somewhat pro Wendy but don't think he's biased against us).

Don't think Walker is McCabes favourite anymore stemming from the support PW gave Blackwell.

What irritates me is that someone who hosts a show because they have excellent presenting skills suddenly believes that they are a football expert despite watching each local club only on an occasional basis. There will always be drama queen supporters with each club but it does rile you when a level headed fan who watches the vast majority of his teams games gives his opinion which they don't agree with. Some of us were watching football while these so called experts were still in nappies

Whilst PW is a Blade (though I believe increasingly has been elsewhere)....

Have been in press conferences where KMc has rightly been what I would describe as "prickly" with with Mr Walker, on the majority of occasions, whilst he'd likely fall back on "doing his job", I found KMc's stance completely understandable.

The last few times I've actually listened (don't tend to any more, as I really don't rate the quality of the programme or the discussions aired), the thing that really irked me was the journalists seemingly smarmy "that's rubbish, I'm correct" attitude to peoples opinions on football. Numerous times I switched off as the host talked over or cut short a caller in a patronising tone. The show used to be about the caller giving and discussing their opinion, not calling up to seek validation from the host, who, despite being a sports journo is no more qualified to comment.

I suspect it's the 'Adrian Durham effect'. They all want to be TalkSport presenters.

They're welcome to it, but I'll not be listening.

Ironically, however, depending on the time of day I've replaced car Radio Sheffield listening with either TalkSport or Five Live and strangely got a new found respect for Stan Collymore, who isn't what I originally assumed :)

TS is erratic. At times, they have some great shows and they up their game in the evenings to compete with 5live. I like Collymore although he does talk some bollocks at times and it annoys me when him and Saggers start shouting at each other.

Paul Walker is desperately trying to model himself on that ginger twat on talksport Adrian Durham, the ultimate wind up merchant.

Radio bloody snortbeast. Next time they try their games during a phone in, we should storm, ransack, and burn down the building.
That'll put an end to their oinky tricks.

The only thing worth listening to on Radio Sheffield is Rony Robinson, who bucks the trend by broadcasting some interesting and fascinating radio, by encouraging people to tell their stories, getting people interacting by gentally cajoling their stories out rather than saying stupid things just for the sake of it.

The Football Heaven cock wombles could learn a lot from him.

I only listen to the odd bit here and there nowadays but think it depends on who’s hosting. Paul Walker is a good commentator but an absolute tool when he’s presenting the phone ins. Seth Bennet was the same. Arrogant, opinionated and wanting to dictate their opinion as fact. Staton is not as bad but can be a little aggressive sometimes. The best for me when it comes to facilitating discussion is Jonathan Buchan. Maybe it’s because he hasn’t been around as long and hasn’t developed such a big ego yet (though he’s worse when he co-hosts with Walker). I suspect what you’re referring to will have been Walker with Buchan as his co-host.

Wilson wasn’t it? Walker was offended at being out of the loop re Wilson’s sacking so took every opportunity to lambast the club for the sacking as I recall? Has been fairly anti-blades since then despite being a “blade”. The Pitsmoor pillock said he knew Walker now takes his lad to watch their lot instead.

I think Collymore does make some valid points but is even more guilty than the RS guys when it comes to shouting down anyone who doesn’t agree with him. His personality comes across as a “bully” type to me and it’s no surprise given his past record with Ulrika.

Blackwell. Which is why RS was kept out of the loop when he was sacked. Brian the Blade told him after reading it on Sky He carried it on since.
He has strong links with the pigs now, remember he got that heads up over Megsons sacking minutes after the final whistle.
