The “how did we do against them last season” chart and possible outcome

Winning half of our remaining games could do it.
If we go W8 D5 L5 of our remaining 18 (29 more point leaving us on 86), Watford would have to go W13 D4 L2 of their remaining 19 (43 points to get to 86).

That's an exceptional run - but either way its ours to lose.

The season Wolves were pipped to promotion, they actually won 10 of their last 18 games and finished on 86 points (so we are currently in a better position than they were) Wolves issue was that only 2 of those wins came in the last 9 whilst WBA won 7 of their last 9. ( and 13 of their last 18).

On this day in 2002 Wolves were only 4 points ahead of WBA, having played a game less.

Only a point but still a point more than against the equivalent opposition last season (Derby), putting us on track for 95 points IF we can achieve the same results as last year for the remainder of the season.

A bad result in both absolute and comparative terms. We only got 1 point from the next 3 games last year, so fingers crossed that we don’t see a repeat!!

Last season we won at Barnsley & Fulham.
This season i don't see us winning at their replacements Sunderland & Burnley.
So we better win at Millwall & Blackburn to compensate.
Apart from those two , we were undefeated in "last season's matches" as they correspond to this season's remaining matches.
Your recent forecast of 95 points is now down to 92.
I doubt we can afford to lose any more than the 3 games at Mackems , Clarets & Canaries , if we want promotion.
6 wins & 6 draws puts us on 85 ...
Looking at Boro last night , it's going to be very close

A poor result and performance but at least we’re still 19 points ahead of last year

Not for long with 8 wins from the next 9 needed to maintain parity...

The good news is that we probably don't need to finish the season 19 points ahead of last year.

The bad news is that we do probably need to finish 10 or so ahead...

Red spells danger - a defeat compared with a victory last season - and with a tricky away game to come midweek

Only an orange (same result as the equivalent game last year) but I’ll take those for the rest of the season. A massive 3 points and equally important much improved performance.

An orange for the rest of the season meaning we don't lose another game? Yep, I'll take that too. I'm not very demanding :)

That would leave Boro unable to drop a single point. It wouldn't guarantee we are up but it wouldn't be far off.

I can start reading this thread again now without glancing through my hands as they cover my eyes!

Not quite the goal-fest of the equivalent game last season, although it perhaps should have been. But all that really matters are the 3 points, which take us a point ahead of last season’s tally with 7 games still to play.

Hopefully a blip and the last “red” of the season. Ambers from our run of 4 home games would be enough to see us over the line.

yes amber all the way would be great but we dont need that many hopefully - Luton and Boro play each other and realistically I doubt that both will win all their remaining games

Still on track for 90 points and with a realistic chance of beating that - only 2 draws and a win to match

It doesn’t matter, we’re already up, it doesn’t mean anything……bollocks, that was a pitiful 2nd half performance and an insult to the travelling fans.

Well done Trafford. Really enjoyed this series over the season, thoughts on how you do it next though. 🤔🤔
Man City = Burnley
Arsenal = Luton
😁😁

Thanks, I’m hoping that I’ll be able to resume it in season 24/25 😁 🤞

What a season it’s been:-
  • 16 points better than the season before
  • 20 points ahead at one point but with a very challenging run of games to try and equal in the last 12 (9 wins and 3 draws)
  • 17 matches in which we earned more points this season than in the equivalent game last season
  • 7 matches in which we earned fewer points this season than last, with QPR being the biggest surprise, 1 point instead of 6
I was going to take a year off and (hopefully) resurrect this for our 2nd season in the Premiership but I may yet do a comparison against our relegation season, if there are enough common teams to make it worthwhile.
