Apologies. Saw the league table and got a little emosh.
Again.
:)
your assessment was spot on actually.. i was thinking along the lines of the same. not spending billions.. no poncy overpaid foreigners.. telling agents to do one.. no stars and not a little quality and skill.. no diving and hystrionics.. we will very quickly become the country's second team if we carry on in this veign

Brilliantly put.

It's one thing to simply have a decent manager, but to have one who encapsulates the spirit that is instinctive in every true supporter is something else entirely.

We're living in a rare and precious moment right now. Enjoy every minute of it. We won't have this stars-aligning moment again in our lifetime.
Your spot on Tyler but there's no reason this can't last for the fore see able future.
Keep this management team together and we can go on to better and better things
The big worry is top premier teams will come sniffing with big cheque books and although the blades will maybe want to keep our best players ,money talks!
and player wagers could be the big problem ( even premiership clubs lose players to the likes of man utd,etc ).I don't fear losing Wilder as he has his dream job and I don't think he is motivated by money ( we have to match his ambition ).
No reason we cant make a go of it in premier if and when we get there with present management team.
I can go right back to late fifties and with confidence state that we are playing our best football during this long period,I acknowledge football and times change but the football we are playing as now is the best and I put it all down to Wilder and his team.
DAve Basset brough some great time to the lane now under Wilder we have all that but with panash and flair which is so exciting and a joy to see

Has there ever been such widespread man love for our manager? Not in over 45 years, if ever.

Before we think about spending big, we should concentrate on making Wilder financially secure. We can’t match the big boys, but we can reassure him them that no matter what, his family will be secure forever.

The biggest risk we face is not selling talent, it’s losing Wilder to someone else, and it’s important that the weaker mined amongst us show some metal when we have a bad spell

If that’s you, then fucking man up, sharpish. :)

Have we finally replaced Mr Harris?

Interesting point. Did we really love him at the time ? We hardly ever heard him, almost never saw him, he was just there. Managers then were far lower profile. I think the Harris love is nostalgia kicking in to be honest, and in reality it's a love for certain players who happened to be playing under him.

Think Spurs with a bit of Burnley. Spurs have a negative net transfer spend and the lowest wage bill in the top six. They don't lose money. It's taken them several years to get where they are but it is achievable. I don't think we'll ever be top four but with the money currently in the PL we could get into the top half, challenge for cups and still retain our identity. Long way to go yet though.

No we didn't love him, could we have any spare love after TC?

Sirrel and Haslam certainly never replaced him.

Don't want to be in The Prem but there was an interview on R5 tonight with the Burnley Chairman who stated £400M has been pumped into Burnley by the TV deal.

For that alone it is worth it just to put the pigs in a box, put the box on a shelf and leave it to gather dust.

Slightly before my time, so I left the ? In for that very reason. :)
No doubt in my mind Harris created two good teams ,the first had a great defence the 2ND a great attack, put the two together and they would have lifted trophies really should have won a trophy anyway.
It's hard to tell what Wilder will acheave as it is early in his tenancy but the signs are all positive.

If you think back to the season Adkins was in charge the standout team in that division was Barnsley who miraculously went from rock bottom to an unstoppable force by the end of the campaign. Winning promotion and the EFL Trophy.

...and then promptly sold their two best players?

Anyway, the footballing gods are conspiring as we speak. It said on the Sky highlights of the Leeds game that the Blades squad is totally made up of British and Irish players.

In't that ray-cist? :D

No mate.

Take the box and shelf and put them in a big sack. Cover in concrete and chuck in the Don.

Please note that in no way am I condoning fly tipping. This is more about health and safety and disposing of contanimated waste.

John Harris was well loved across football and a gentleman who, it was said, never swore, drank or smoked, but it was a different world back then. I seem to remember managers retired more than got the sack and were generally under the radar along with the trainer with the bucket and sponge. I should think in spite of CW liking a Peroni and not spunking money, John Harris will be looking down with a smile on his face, not a little pride at a team playing the right way and wishing CW well.

Yes must admit that interview didn't impress me at all.

Me neither. If CW asks for more overseas players then fair enough. If not then for fucks sake, let the man manage. Look across the city to see evidence of someone meddling who has fuck all idea about football.

Crab Waste Disposal Services, a division of Crab Industries are who you need. I'll get Big Vern to warm up the Discovery.

I would go as far to say the interview worried me. Especially after a close friend of Wilders told me we wont be spending much in January and the Prince is not worth very much at all. Every sentence of that interview reverts back to finance.

But would Wilder be as good as he is without Knill working his socks off in training pushing for his place...?

But would Wilder be as good as he is without Knill working his socks off in training pushing for his place...?

I think we recognise that they’re a double act that seems to just work. I doubt outside of the club anyone else realises this which i actually think Knill isn’t bothered about - he doesn’t seem to be that kinda bloke (e.g. he didn’t want to go onto the balcony of the town hall, he very much talks himself down) he knows the club value him tho and seems happy with that.

This is either a good thing... as big clubs only seem to be interested in the ‘manager’ or head coach... and I think Wilder knows he needs Knill. There arnt many clubs now that give the manager the sort of control Wilder has. So provided we match his ambition I think it works in our favour.

Or it’s a really bad thing as if the right club comes along... we lose both.

We’ve listened to him for 18 months now and he nails it everytime he speaks.

In an age of disinterest in the national team, an acceptance that prem teams are all about money, a nationwide loss of connection with where football comes from...

...and the more other teams fans hear him and watch what we’re about... it’s becoming clear that we’re quicky becoming a bit envied... and rightly so... We proper spit in the face of what football has become.

I fucking love my football club.

I did'nt expect us to be top of the league but because of the 'Wilder effect' I'm not surprised either.
I said before we kicked a ball this season that we would be one of the best footballing sides in the championship
a few Wendy's sneered ofcourse but I believed it because of the great football I had seen all last season and as someone has already stated on here we pissed the league because we were already championship quality.
Nothing surprises me with this management team, not even winning the league would surprise me.I'm not expecting it though and I keep thinking we might get outplyayed one of these days but it wouldn't surprise me
if we did'nt ..... sorry for rambling I'm sure there's a profound, succinct point to be made somewhere in there but I'm
Fecked if I can make it.

Really ? What happened to "think Liverpool" ? Booooo ! Absolute gaaaarbage from the club. McCabe out.
Since the famous statement things have changed a bit. We started out thinking like Liverpool; we bought loads of players but no decent defenders, then realised it wasn't a good plan. In ten years time I hope people talk about 'doing a Sheffield United'.

What’s the point in making Wilder financially secure, it achieves nothing. A PL club can double or treble it.
The way to keep Wilder is through job satisfaction and helping him achieve and meet his challenges by backing him in the transfer/ loan market and turning down bids for our better players.

Really believe that if and when Wilder leaves, it will be with his head held high.

If your only motivation is earning as much money as possible, then yes. Thankfully, mine, and not everyone’s isn’t.

Of course, financial security is something else. Most want that as a minimum, before you can afford to start worrying about job satisfaction. And the correlation between our spending on players and performance has been negative for a decade, so there’s no guarantee he should or would put that above his own financial security,
