Seriously, how good is it to be a Blade right now?
We are buzzing. Like many of you, I also listened to FH last night and heard that guy going on about how they their fans are being taken for mugs by Chansiri with the ticket prices, and how they had lost their identity as a club. The guy sounded gutted. In fact judging by the aftermath, they sound mortally wounded and holed below the waterline.
On Sunday evening I went into a bar where I saw Kevin McCabe happily chatting to supporters at one end of the bar while Chris Wilder was up the other end also chatting cheerfully. There was no silly security or awkwardness. Just two ordinary blades openly enjoying the evening like the rest of us after a fantastic afternoon. I spoke to KM about what our victory meant to us and how they (wendy) still went on about boxing day. I was behind the goal that horrible day and felt sick. KM said "after that display by us, boxing day is now done with and wiped out." I couldn't agree more Kevin. As the drinks flowed CW & KM were joined by more people and is was a really special atmosphere that I will always remember. I'm sure a few of you on here were there too.
I thought at the time about what we have at our club with these two men, and of course Billy, which makes us so unique. Also never underestimating the contribution of the legend that is - Alan Knill.
Can you imagine what wendy would give right now to have this situation? If they had just hammered us at our place and with three life-long supporters running the whole show?
After all the difficulties we blades have endured in the last few years, our three musketeers are giving us some fantastic memorable moments. I have to say, apart from actually being at S6 on Sunday, I don't think the atmosphere in the Clubhouse on Sunday could have been matched anywhere that afternoon, it will go down in folklore. Hotter than a sauna, beer raining down, packed-in shoulder to shoulder, drenched in sweat, constant swaying and chanting all through the game, a red smoke canister went off, a celebration after one goal lasted about 4 minutes with blokes diving off tables into the swaying crowd (a la MK Dons), a carpet of broken glass under your feet, grown men kissing complete strangers at the final whistle. It was mayhem and chaos the whole game and a breach of every health & safety issue in the book...and I absolutely loved it.
Yesterday I read that pathetic article in the Star by Martin Smith where he says "Walking past the Graduate pub just off Tudor Square at around 3pm on Sunday you’d have thought they’d won the Champions League" Well let me tell you Martin, doing what we did at S6 was nothing like winning the Champions League...it was far better.
