Thanks to the Players Again

I think most can be given credit for their attacking certainly. But most can also be seriously criticised for the woeful defending throughout.

Had Davies scored the much easier opportunity than tonight last Thursday it could have been fairly different.

McNulty frustrated the hell out of me. Had a golden opportunity before the crucial penalty, and decided to give Simonsen's penalty some company in orbit.

They didnt even start playing till they were 3 -0 down
could have lost that game about 23-12 and youre happy with that ?

Could equally well say: we could have won 23-12 would you have been sacking the manager for that?

It was always going to be a high scoring game once he decided to keep Basham in midfield.

The players did everything they could tonight.

And they didn't give up - whereas plenty of the fans around me had given up at 3-0 (and at 4-2). Fwiw I hadn't and I said so.

Frustrating result, made even more so because of the effort put in. Those who said that they didn't try until 3-0, you are right and tonight could have been a very different tone had we been more organised from the start.

I hope we see more of Che next season, great composure with his chances for his age and his goal was great. Now let's pray for that CB and CM and also prey that Clough looks beyond Derby and Blackpool. I like Howard, don't think he should be replaced yet.

Oh, final note: sacking Clough is not the solution.

If we keep Clough, and I think we will, we need a new Head Scout and a more positive Assistant Manager on the touchline, one who can encourage and praise players; maybe Morgan who Clough talks to throughout games.

Credit to them for not giving up but starting so sluggishly in such a big game when you have basically coasted through a season and somehow finished 5 th in a division of breathtaking mediocirity is unacceptable at a club with our budget and our ambitions

Ive never once advocated sacking clough but the playing side of the club is a mess and needs sorting out

Bottom line is we're still in League One - no guarantees that we'll be any better next season - In my view it's been another wasted season with only a marginal improvement in league position over the previous. I can't see how Clough will get a team to deliver automatic with the style and players he has and may bring in. At present long term patience may result in yet another 4 or 5 seasons down amongst the dead of league one.
What the answer is - I don't know - must admit I get a bit fed up with "complacency" from the boardroom and season after season of bad decisions at that level. We've managed to spend an awful lot of money getting from the Prem to where we are now over last 7 years.
I worry that we'll be mid table in this league next November - and the board dithering on what to do next.

Come on Robbie. Until Derbys Reserves start playing 2 centre halves who have been there over 4 years and are made available for transfer, then there literally are no centre halves available in the world of football.....

Does the parallel universe also include managers who think that a CB player who wont discuss a new contract is a player looking to stay?
They then blame them for their own failures, 62 games later
