Preferred Graham Bonnet and Down To Earth is the best album ;-)Absolutely powered Rainbow through the 80's. All the best mate. Not as good as RJD but a top effort all the same.

"Eyes of the world" was one of their finest moments but RJD on Rainbow Rising was their best album IMHO.Preferred Graham Bonnet and Down To Earth is the best album ;-)
It clearly isn't as Rising stands head and shoulders above it.Preferred Graham Bonnet and Down To Earth is the best album ;-)
Stargazer best song ever, Ronnie James Dio genius, my eyes are bleeding."Eyes of the world" was one of their finest moments but RJD on Rainbow Rising was their best album IMHO.
Hee hee! I knew as soon as I wrote that about DTE that all the old rockers would be out flying the flag for 'Rising'It clearly isn't as Rising stands head and shoulders above it.
Having said that, DTE is a cracker of an album and far, far better than people usually give it credit for. Eyes of the World is an absolute beast of a track. I saw them twice on that tour, when they opened with EOTW and it still gives me goosebumps to this day.
I was also present when Graham Bonnet played his infamous debut gig (or half a gig) with MSG, at the Polytechnic, when he stormed off after a few songs and left the rest of the band to finish the set off instrumentally. Which they did with aplomb incidentally. Happy days.
Love's No Friend is a great song and the best song that Coverdale and Whitesnake never wrote.Hee hee! I knew as soon as I wrote that about DTE that all the old rockers would be out flying the flag for 'Rising'. :-D
I love both albums, but I thing the main thing is that I was 13 at the time and just the right age for that sort of sound, which Blackmore probably thought was the direction to go in, what with the punk/new wave sound being popular then. I suspect you guys are a little older than me as most of my rocker mates who prefer Rising are all at least 4 years older.
I think Down To Earth has better songs and some of the songs on Rising are just too long and would have benefitted from a bit of trimming. DTE is all killer, including two huge hit singles. Eyes of the World is a monster, but so is Danger Zone and Love's No Friend.
I would say the best track on Rising is Run With The Wolf. But it's all about opinions. I would say though that Down To Earth does sound dated now, (more so perhaps than 'Rising'?) but I love that, as every time I listen it takes me back to 1979 when I first bought it on vinyl from Hudson's in Chesterfield.
If you want a one dimensional forum may I recommend "Fowls Talk", or some such name as that.I thought this was a forum where we talk about football.
Silly me I must be losing my faculties.
