Ten point gap

We won’t catch Brighton. We need someone else to slump and we need to win every other game. Even the most optimistic Blades surely need to admit defeat.

I can’t imagine we’ll somehow finish on a worse goal difference than -69, so that’s Derby surpassed. 5 more points to get past Sunderland!

Hopefully we’ll avoid the top 20, but staying out of the top 10 is a reasonable target for now. But 14 more points still seems a long way off given the season we’ve had so far.
Totally forgot that Dave Basset was at Leicester in 2001-2 and signed Brian Deane

Shame FourFourTwo is now fully on-message with the PL public relations department. Football started in 1992. Keep repeating it

It's highly unlikely that we will catch up the 10 point gap. However, we just need to focus one game at a time. Keep winning and it builds pressure on others. My heart and head say we have started this run too late. But bloody hell its better to be a blade now than it was a few game ago!

To put things in perspective we got 5 points in the whole of the first half of the season (19 games) and have already got 6 in the second half of the season after 3/19 games.

And when I had just settled for 12 points and a cup run!

Its the hope that kills you.

It’s 30 years to be fair and it’s an entirely different era now in its own right. For comparison purposes I don’t see the issue as there’s not a lot of relevance of the years before that.

We need a strong run of form, coupled with a capitulation from one of Brighton, Newcastle, Burnley.

It’s out of our hands.

I don’t think it’s so inconceivable that we could win four more games than any three out of Brighton, Fulham, WBA, Burnley or Newcastle over the next 16 games?
Problem is 12 more points get us to 23 points. That means 12 more draws to get to the promised land of 35 for survival. IF 35 points gets you survival this season.

Seem to remember we had a 10 point gap between us and Wetsham with not a lot of games to play when we got relegated from the PL last time. We are now 10 points behind Brighton. Can we overtake them and escape?
Probably not........but I don’t mind trying.

I suppose it's about who out of Brighton, Newcastle and Burnley are going to hit the magical 40 points. Only Burnley look most likely to creep over the line at the moment, as they have a fairly solid defence and assuming they exploit their games in hand.

Harder to see Newcastle and Brighton both getting another 17/18 points, but of course if either of them did, then we would need a historic run to overtake the other.

I think most acknowledge that it is going to require something very special and pulling it off is highly unlikely but we just need to keep scrapping, and we have a manager who seems to thrive when he has a target to aim for. Add in as well that our run in isn't too bad.

I would describe myself as hopeful, but realistic.

Not wishing to be greedy, but I'd like to be safe with a game to spare so that I can relax for the Burnley away game!

When you look at Watford last season, they were on 22 points after 22 games and managed to get relegated so it's possible as the 3 above the relegation zone are on similar now. Have we got 8 wins in us?! I don't think so but I hope we carry on playing as we have the last 3 league games and give it a good go.

If we could have had a few more draws instead of 1-0 losses, we have 2 draws to Brighton's 9.
We could have scored a penalty against Villa, if the referees had done their jobs properly Egan would not have been sent off in the same match and the Leeds goal would never have happened because the referee would have given us a free kick for the foul on Berge.
Don’t get me going about that twat Scudamore, Hans Segers, the cricket pitch, etc.

Yeah we have. But we’ve got our old Blades back and it nice to see them giving it a go.
Thank god we didn’t bring anyone in the JTW or that would have buggered up the team’s equilibrium.

West Ham were dead and buried that season
They needed a miracle to stay up....hence why when they received a fine (instead of the expected points deduction) there wasn’t any loud complaints.

However in West Ham’s last 9 league matches,
Their record was an incredible WON 7 DREW 0 LOST 2

One of those defeats was when we beat them 3-0 at the Lane.

They also had a player called Tevez.
I wish we had a player of similar quality now.

In 2020 we were worrying that the Blades would go down without a fight or pride and we might suffer a double relegation.. we’ve seen to that. Step 1.

Not many weeks many could not see a win this season.. we’ve seen to that. Step 2.

A few weeks ago we felt that we would not attain Derby’s total.. seen to that. Step 3.

It’s looking increasingly like we will move off the bottom of the Premier League.. Step 4..

Next?

8 wins 2 draws and 6 defeats takes us to 37 points

Should be enough

Of the games remaining last season we won 8 and drew 3
The last 10 fixtures we have last season we won 7 drew 2 and lost 1

So it's not that far fetched
Start this weekend with another 3-0 v chelsea

Hate that it’s out of our hands and we have to obsess over Brighton and Newcastle results. Newcastle get Southampton on Saturday with two players red carded last night and they are out of defenders. Reckon we will fall short but go into next season with very positive momentum which will feel ok.
