I like the look of that team. Personally I think Speed will play Ward wide right and go with Evans and Cresswell up top. I'd be tempted to do the same.

I think you're probably right Olle. Until he signs a winger or two he will probably feel he has to persist with using Wardy as a winger. I fully expect him to play on the right tomorrow as well but he's more than competent there so thats ok. I have always thought he is better as a striker personally as I see a little of Michael Owen in him but like all good players Wardy is versatile.

Once Speed gets his wide men I would definately have him up front. If I was manager tomorrow though, I would think feck it....I'm playing him up front. Yeates and Quinny are well used to playing in wide positions so I would put them there in a 4-4-2....

I championed the idea of using a 4-3-3 come 4-5-1 at the start of the season but now ive seen us in that system I dont think it suits us. Strange as we have the playing staff for it on paper  but we dont look at all comfortable in that shape. Far too rigid and our attacking players become isolated.

Simonsen

Calve, Nosworthy, Morgan, Jordan

Lowton, Ertl, Britton, Yeates

Ward, Evans

I would go with this, but I think SCB's will be closer

That's my choice too.

Maximum experience at centre back. Two genuine wide players. Pace up front. Britton sitting deep and instigating passing moves.

Glory beckons...

I think it would be a little unfair to drop Bartley. He was excellent at Middlesbrough.

It would I agree but for me he is a work in progress. Thought he was often caught out of position against QPR, and in these tense circumstances I just favour the more experienced player.

I don't think we need any wingers, I think Speed will go for the modern system of the fullbacks been the wide players a la Barca and Spain with the middle four playing in diamond to create the space for the fullbacks to get forward. The front two can then operate in a free role to drag the opposing defence out of position for the midfield to make runs from the deeper positions Naturally you need to have the players (in very position) to be able to utilise this system to its full effect and given our finances I think the next few games will determine who will be regulars by Dec and those who will be bench fillers until the Jan window.

like the formation railway.. but i'd put calve at left back (apparently he can play either side) and then bartley at right back

Simmo
Calve Morgan Bart/Nos Jordan

Britton Ertl/Monty

Yeates Ward Cresswell

Evans

Personally I don't want him to give up on the formation last week. Just needs tweaking

Cresswell to stay left until we have a new left winger
Britton moves back allowing Ward to play in the hole
Calve and jordan to attack the flanks to allow wingers to move into the channels to help Evans.

It would be unfair, but we're bottom of the league and life's just like that. :)

This is true. But I'm a firm believer in playing players while theyre in form. Granted, it was one game....but the lad played very well and a good performance should be rewarded with a start in the next game. You're as good as your last performance and as much as I like Noz, Bartley's last outing puts him just above Noz in the pecking order from my point of view........play him while his confidence is up, I guess is what I'm saying....

Watch Speedo play Noz now and make me look daft :)

Id go with Morgan and Nos as my back 2, I certainly wouldnt keep Cressy on the wing, hes far too slow so Id play him up top with Ched and have Ward and yeates on the wings

Simmo

Calve Morgs Nos Jordan

Ward Britton Ertl Yeates

on seeing this team I think I prefer it. I forgot about Lowton. It looks like a fairly solid back 4 and this could be very important. It's important we stop shipping goals as well as start scoring them.

We have option on the bench with this team, as Cresswell and Bognanovic can both come on if Ward and Evans isn't working. Ward can always switch out wide if we need it too.

What about poor old Monty? Does anyone want him in the team? Speed probably does, he is one of our top earners and the club was so proud that we kept hold of him wasn't it?

I love your new, positive outlook.

I just want to see more of Ertl. Although here's a good quote from a piece in today's Grauniad:

"Spain's success has been attributed not only to Barcelona's players but to their identity. "Tell me who your central midfielder is and I'll tell you what kind of football you play," runs the phrase."
