Team for Rotherham

Good start but obviously not the real thing yet. Weird we only have two confirmed games left you'd think we would be looking to play 60+ sides in both those games

Seriki was good going forward but a few times he got caught out high up the pitch where Bindon had to cover for him. Any teams with pacey left wingers will target and exploit that.

Better second half. COH Brooks, Seriki and Campbell brought much needed movement. Jefferson got an assist with a good first time pass for Campbells goal. Didnt look out of place second half got good feet.

Cannon got his goal albeit a bit of a goalkeeping error and to everyones relief Grbic didnt have a shot to save. Brooks looking the part down the right. Overall a decent work out but still lots of questions to be answered over team starting positions and depth in centre midfield.

Two wins in two games and eleven goals. Not the usual SUFC pre season fare.

It might only have been a poor Rotherham side, but it was a test for quite a few players today.

Oné, Marsh (a league higher than what he played last season), Hampson, Ukaki, Caceres, Sasnauskas and even RND (fitness and ability wise).

i know we shouldn't compare, david weir is proof of that. brilliant pre season & was a dead man walking 6 weeks later

but as i on shoutbox. 12 mths ago we beat york 2-1 & Rotherham 2-1. this season its 6-2 & 5-0. also 24/25 we scored 12 conceded 4 in 5 friendlies. we've already all but matched it in 2. things are looking very bright

O'Hare linked up with Cannon for Campbell's goal against York, now they've linked up together again for O'Hare's goal.

Cannon, O'Hare, Campbell and Brooks could be a potentially lethal four and that leaves nowhere for Hamer. I like Hamer but O'Hare seems to form partnerships and understandings with other individuals more than Hamer does.
I politely disagree regarding hamer, for me that series of partnerships and chemistry would make him more dangerous will be able to control temp deeper and be a more elusive/wildcard on top of the already high tempo attacking unit. I hope to all that is holy we can have him this coming season. ⚔️😍

Hamer was head and shoulders above anything else on that pitch today - the owners have already lost quite a bit of their money, sell Hamer and their investment I'd say is bordering on 50% of what it was.

Can't read too much into it at this stage, but another good work out and a good scoreline.
I thought Peck slotted into that 6 role nicely in the first half, always looks comfortable even when it's tight.
Second half Brooksy and Seriki were decent down the right...Never really got tested too much at the back, but great recovery tackle by Bindon.
We'll probably see the players who start v Burton will be more Selles favoured starting 11 unless more signings arrive.

Without replacing Souttar and Vini with similar size and ability- 14th

Get 2 good additions that are similar - 5th

Very early days to predict especially as we are playing a different 11 each half and given the strength of opposition. However, I do think currently we are missing a couple through the spine of the team. A couple of leader/general types. We look a little light weight and could get bullied

Take aways from the match. Smart ground, never been before. Great view as well. Pie, mash, peas and gravy for 6.50 is a bargain. Onto the game...

Ukaki impressed me the most in the first half. That from a base of York previous game. One brilliant goal, but was quiet for the rest (tired? Fitness looks slightly off). Hamer was hamer. No one else worth a mention.

2nd half, Brooks, seriki, O'Hare, Campbell, bindon all very good. Caceres impressed me as well. Didn't look like a competition winner unlike previous game. Rotherham poor. Cannon needed the goal, but also needs more composure and to develop his decision making. That will come. Young lad.

Overall, biggest take away was that Ukaki and Caceres didn't look like competition winners and stepped up. Will they play a significant part? Unlikely. However they did absolutely no harm in putting their name forward to be a part of the squad.

Hampson and Marsh need either loans out or to move on IMO. Neither are uprooting the people in front of them currently unless we have an injury crisis.

Onto Burton.

It's good all these big scorelines, but my own typical experience watching United:

Good pre-season = Bad season
Bad pre-season = Good season

Rotherham weren't exactly bad, though most of the match it's like they didn't turn up at all and we just kept slicing or lobbing the ball through their defence too easily. (Love that style by the way, proper football, not relying on set peices or luck!)

Although saying that, there are too many times when we are making wrong decisions with passing. There was a point in the first half where we had this passage of play where we kept it nice and built up pressure. Nice ball down the left wing, players lining up in and around the box waiting for the ball. The ball was however not put into any kind of useful area and we did the typical United thing of passing it all the way back into our half. Rotherham were then able to push out very quickly and within a few seconds they got a free kick in a dangerous position. Only ourselves to blame for messing about and not having that killer instinct all the time.

Glad Garbage kept a clean sheet or is that half of a clean sheet? Although it wasn't exactly a test. I still question him as a goalkeeper though and maybe Sellés does as well. He made Garbage walk to the bench to have a word with him, don't see that very often. Probably saying "What the fuck is your positioning all about!?"

Brooks had a brilliant 45 minutes, absolutely smashed it 👏.

Also,
Campbell, O'Hare, McCallum and even... TOM CANNON! Had really good games in my opinion.
