Team for Coventry

For what it's worth, and trying to keep round pegs in round holes, I'd go with

Long
Brayford Edgar Collins Harris
Coutts Hammond Basham Woolford
Done Sharp

Bench
Howard, Freeman, McGahey, Baxter, Sammon, Reed, JCR (if fit)

I'd rather see Baxter in there somewhere but can't see how to fit him in and keep a solid midfield against a Coventry team who pack the midfield

Most important thing for me is that they get the same motivational team talk as at Barnsley so they don't forget the dross from previous games

defensive for a home game but I'd snap your hand off for a draw:

Long

Brayford Edgar Collins Harris
Freeman Hammond Basham Coutts K Wallace
Done

This will be a tough game, but then again they all are for us! Can't belive that this team was in the play offs last season and only went out by one goal, scoring five in the second leg.

As others have said, I hope there is a space for Kieron Freeman in midfield somewhere, he has pace and skill, Matt Done has to come straight down the middle, at goal, with speed. We need physicality in the middle of the park, so maybe Hammond and Basham, with Bash charging forward when needed,

Sammon alongside Done to be the target man for Matty to play off.

Must say, my stomach is in knots here, can see a beating on the cards. Hope I am wrong (of course).

Ok here goes again, can't say I'm massively enthusiastic about tomorrow but I'll have another go at shuffling the deck chairs to see if they can look any better

---------------------Long------------------------
BRAYFORD Edgar Mceverley K Wallace

----------------------Hammond------------------

------------Basham--------Scougall

--------------------Baxter----------------

------------------Done & Sharp---------------

Subs:
Howard, Freeman, Magahay, Baxter, Flynn, JCR, Sammon

I can see the flaws in this just as much as anyone else but I don't think we can pick a team without flaws in it until this squad gets ripped up in the Summer.

My team selection has no width, a weak centre back pairing and a centre forward who is totally out of confidence. I'm hoping the full backs provide the width with the narrow midfielders or Hammond tucking in when needed. For Scougall, Mceverely and Baxter they need to understand they are supping in last chance saloon , especially Baxter, even though he's the only midfielder in the team who looks like he can add to the goal tally significantly.

Just hope that Nige keeps that solid midfield three of Bash/Coutts/Hammond. Not pretty, but stops teams carving through us at will.

Long
Beard Edgar McEv KWallace
Coutts Bash Hammond
Flynn Done JCR

(Howard/Freeman/Collins/Reed/Dimaio/Sammon/Sharp)

I must have missed the bit where that happened.

Basham is poor in midfield and lacking positionally and Hammond's lack of mobility means he's usually pretty easy to bypass. Coutts might as well not be there defensively (or offensively) most of the time.

But, we've been much more solid playing 433 with those three in there, faults & all, recently.

We play 442 & we get torn apart (by the likes of 22nd-placed Colchester).

Till we get upgraded players, it's our best option (to grind out results).

I think it's key to try matching them for energy and mobility. Assuming JCR is out:

Long
Brayford Collins McEveley Wallace
Hammond
Basham - - Scougall
Done - - - - - - - - - - - -- - -Flynn
Sammon

Just watched some of their highlight footage...I know it doesn't give you the whole picture, but just one or two observations...they do have pace and mobility and I like the 2 loan players Armstrong and Murphy...also like Fleck and Vincelot who I think they use as the 2 deeper Midfielders in a 4231...The Keeper is only young and threw one in v Donny, and their back line is their weakness for me...They also seem to come through the middle a lot when attacking, rather than wide...look good on the break.
I'll go with JMac and Bash...yeah I know, but more pace, and it will come along the floor rather than in the air,and not sure if Edgar is fit,and don't fancy Collo against pace...Coutts deep,as I think he's got better distribution than Hammond..Sammon up top to hold the ball and provide a physical presence.

Yet somehow we kept a clean sheet last week and went 94'59" the week before.

If these three were anywhere remotely near that bad Arbroath v Bon Accord would've been wiped from the record books.

We have gone solid in CM.

Adkins has shown us the blueprint in the past 2 games.

Hammond / Basham / Coutts all in CM.

We have generally abandoned 442 in favour of being solid and not conceding.

Won't be pretty and we will only attack with 3, with Basham joining from deep as he tended to do last season.

Shrewsbury was a turning point in Adkins patience - he now knows who goes and who stays.
