No Che Adams for this game, perhaps a chance to give Flynn a go down the left? He can't really do any worse than anyone else has done down the left side can he? I'd be delighted to see both Collins & McEveley dropped.

I'm hoping we're getting to a point where Adkins realises you can't really play both Coutts & Hammond together, and will drop at least one (preferably both, but again unlikely). Up front its time to give Sharp a rest and go with Done & Sammon who have both scored recently. JCR & Baxter hopefully will both return as they've been sorely missed.

Long
Brayford Edgar Basham Harris
JCR Baxter Hammond Flynn
Done Sammon

Howard, Collins, Freeman, K. Wallace, J. Wallace, Scougall, Sharp

Adams' suspension and Sharp's loss of form really limit our choices up front so I've gone for Freeman on the right side of a front three: he's shown in the past that he's quick, skilful and he should be able to defend from the front with Done.

Midfield: we can't carry Coutts' and Hammond's lack of pace in the middle against Coventry so Scougall comes in to add energy.

Centre half is a worry: Armstrong is small but quick and clever so I've gone for McEveley who's probably the most mobile option we've got. Brayford and Wallace will be kept busy by Jacob Murphy but they're both good enough to cope.

It'll be a tough game but I can see us getting a result.

I think, if Edgar and JCR are fit, I'd go for something like

---------------------------Long

Brayford---------Edgar-----Colllins-----Wallace
------------------------Hammond
------------------Basham----Scougall*
Done-------------------------------------------JCR
-----------------------Sammon

*- Depending on the Baxter situation, I might play him instead. If Edgar and JCR don't make it, I'd probably play McEveley (shudder) and Flynn and Coutts in for Scougall and JCR as narrow wide men in a 442.

We need as much mobility as possible to deal with the comparative footballing elite that is Coventry, hence Reed and Scougall. We need to field a team that can do a lot of chasing around as we won't have much of the ball. Also remove Collins from the defence because we all know how much he can struggle against teams who move the ball on the floor and have players with legs. And it's time to give Huffing Billy a rest given that he's gone about half a season without scoring.

Interesting, a thread about who might have the honour of wearing our once great clubs colours to represent us in a competitive game of football. I much prefer the endless debates about who should or shouldn't buy their ticket first and who is or isn't the worlds biggest blade.

This was already a tough game but has been made even tougher by being without our most creative midfielder and one of the very few players with pace in the team.

JCR has to play if fit, if he isn't then we are woefully lacking in pace against a young, strong and very quick Coventry side. They will run rings around us I fear.

I'm really not looking forward to this one. I think it'll be depressing to see how far ahead of us Coventry are despite being in a shit situation for the last 2 or 3 years, they've completely surpassed us and their team is a heck of a lot stronger than ours.

Assuming Harris and Baxter are unavailable, I'd expect

Long
Brayford, Collins, Edgar, McEveley
Coutts Hammond Basham
JCR Sharp Done

As much as we are struggling for a decent centre back and some energy in midfield, we really need an out and out left midfield/winger.

The most irritating thing is that you just know that Collins and Sharp are certain to start so there's no point us choosing our teams because Adkins will not drop them, particularly Sharp.

I feel sorry for Done and I can see him being sold in January and if he wanted away I wouldn't blame him. He's second fiddle to Sharp for two reasons:

1. He's an Adkins favourite
2. Billy Sharp supports Sheffield United.

Forget ability, recent form and the rest of it, that's how it is for him so he has to make do with being played out of position on the wing.

Probably about half of them although with a couple it's hard to tell if they're injured or fit.

Bloody dreading this. Got a feeling Coventry will run rings around us. Fully expect us to go a couple of goals down before our spineless chumps respond.

I would stick with that for a spell. Sharp, Sammon and Adams (when fit) all on bench and given the opportunity to fight for a place with the rest.

It's surprising how many would pick Basham & Hammond together in midfield. I don't see that making us any attacking opportunities? Also see Scougall getting touted a lot but he's not really done anything in the last 12 months? Same goes for Reed.

It's mostly a case of having no one better. It's partly the need for size and physical presence in this division. Basham and Hammond won't run about all over the place but they can at least win the football.

Rumour is that Baxter's done at the club

Don't know if correct, but rumours from different sources on BM are that Baxter's done at the club

A midfield three of Reed, Hammond and Scougall? Fills me with dread.

I dont see this as a big surprise given the extent of his alleged actions
If the rumours are true good riddance

I think from the outset Adkins plan was to use the players he was left and reinforce goalscoring in the main with the idea of outscoring the opposition.

This hasn't worked as we've quite often been outscored  even though we've created chances eg Bury most obviously but a few others as well.

I think this is down to lack of mobility in midfield and finishing rather than the much maligned defence.

Plan B, or, C, or whatever is ugly backs-to-the-wall football.

As for Coventry I've not really followed their progress but just based on League position they could easily outplay us, even if the limit of our ambitions is to contain them.

It seems apparent that Adkins can't mould the players he's got atm possibly even the play-offs are out of reach atm. I think things could get worse before they get better, but if we stick with Adkins I reckon they will get an awful lot better than they have been for a long time.

Says a lot about the current state of things when that's probably the best eleven.
