So, Porter has been up front with Uncle Todd. Now Taylor is here, does this mean he will be first choice on his own or would DW be wanting him to form a partnership with Porter?

Although I hate 1 upfront (especially at home), I do like the idea of McGinn & Doyle being holding midfielders and McDonald having a free role.

Thoughts please.

Don't see it changing the system. DW seems to prefer the 4-2-3-1 system i imagine Taylor will play upfront on his own

To be honest, Taylor scored 29 goals in the Scottish first division, it doesn't fill me with hope. I hope i'm wrong but i think Taylor could be another Miller.. coming from a lower club and a year later done nothing but be injured.

ffs why don't you just give the lad a chance. Why say that about Miller,he was on fire before he picked up the injury and I would go as far as to say that we would have been promoted had he not been sidelined.

With McDonald in the attacking midfield role I think it's a huge boost for us to get a striker who's quick, athletic and who will be looking to get in behind teams. I reckon he'll be starting the season as first choice flanked by Brandy and Murphy.

I still think Porter has a role to play and now that we've got rid of Kitson and Cresswell, we'll rely on him for aerial strength and holding the ball up. His role in the squad will be more clearly defined and he'll hopefully be effectively used when the management thinks his specific qualities are needed, similar to Warnock's use of Chief a few years ago.

It's good to have options on the bench (Porter is quite different to the first choice, so we could change the pattern of the game by putting him on), but it's not ideal always having to change the way we play if Taylor gets a knock, and I wish we had yet another option who could offer some of the same qualities.

Can Miller find a role in Weir's 4-2-3-1 formation?

Rather not have a two holding players if im honest although I like the idea of kmac in a more forward thinking role but id like to see how porte and taylor play together upfront, porter and miller seemed to work well before the injury so whos to say it wouldnt work with taylor, worth a try imho

Miller couldn't even get in Crewe's first team. And he certainly wouldn't score 29 goals in any division, for any team. I don't see any reason to compare the two? Plus, as has been said, Miller did really well until he got injured. Ok he's not proven at this level, but 29 goals is 29 goals wherever you score em.

I scored 29 goals against my 7 and 4 yr old last season.....:)

joking aside, of course we should give taylor a good chance and put some faith in him like weir has

Bergen Blade, Today at 7:28 PM Report

Is the 4-2-3-1 set in stone though Bergen...I like us set up like that and it looks like that's how we are going to shape up,but I also could see Miller and Taylor as a good combination as a front 2.Miller for me though could also play a bit deeper in behind Taylor,or in the 3 in the 4-2-3-1.
I think DW has enough about him to change things if they're not working and play 2 strikers when needed.

DW has said that he wants the team to develop flexibility and he intends to change formations to suit circumstances.

If you get enough players playing well together at the same time, formations look after themselves.

I'm delighted with DW so far. Weir on our way back.

Eh? You think he'll get injured?

I think he'll score 34 goals, 29 of which will be in the 2nd half, and two thirds at BDTBL.

Wibble.
