Was this guy only an option if we were promoted? Is it down to the Dunne and Darling now?

i think we need a new centre back pairing anel and robbo both not strong enough in a back 4 tanganga souttar holding and mepham could be the ones were looking at souttar and mepham would make a very strong centre back pairing

Souttar won’t be back until Christmas and might not be the player he was. So you can forget him unless he passes the most stringent medical ever in a year’s time once he’s got some games under his belt for someone else.

Another 6 month loan deal perhaps for next Jan. Assess after that.

Do we know that's his time frame? Where have you seen that he'll be out until Christmas?

This Sheffield United we're talking about. Expect to see Souttar unveiled on deadline day with commentary looking forward to him regaining his fitness over the coming months.

We shouldn't be anywhere near him until next summer, if ever.

He had it re operated on in February.

If you read about the recovery from an Achilles tear online it says the timelines to return to a high impact sport such as football is 10-12 months.

So at the earliest he will be returning to the grass at Christmas time. Having not played football for a full year, be totally unfit and in effect need a full pre-season.

We need to wish him well and move on. We need our back line sorting before August.

Taking the relevant bits...
"Athletes were able to return to professional sport participation 76% of the time, with mean time to RTP [return to playing] of 11 months following AT [Achilles tendon] injury."

Additionally:
"Athletes experienced a decline in player efficiency ratings, power ratings, and sport- and position-specific statistics in the NFL, NBA, and professional soccer leagues compared to noninjured controls."

Some wise sage has been repeating this for months:
That can't have been far into [Souttar's] recovery given that the injury was on Boxing Day? Either way, he'll do well to get back on a football pitch in 2025 which is a real shame as he was a colossus.

Completely agree on point 1. That ship has sailed anyway as (this is me repeating myself) Souttar probably won't play competitively again until 2026.

Souttar won't be back until 2026 at the earliest. I'd hazard a guess that I'll play a match before him and I'm not due to have my ACL reconstruction until the end of June.
I ended up having my ACL reconstruction in early April. I still reckon I'll play a competitive match (school dads' league but it's all relative) before Souttar.

Surprised at the amount of posts wanting us to sign him tbh.

We need to have a solid first choice back line with backups sorted by August. All ready and available.

we need to wish him well with his recovery and move on sharpish

Local Leicester paper says he won't be available for pre season training and likely beginning of next year before he plays a competitive game

We need to forget Souttar

Even if he re-signed, for what he'd cost the risk would be way too high
From my post above...

"Athletes [suffering an Achilles tendon rupture] experienced a decline in player efficiency ratings, power ratings, and sport- and position-specific statistics in the NFL, NBA, and professional soccer leagues compared to noninjured controls."

Assuming he does come back (a quarter don't) he's not going to be the same player.

Can't remember that ever happening before
Refresh my memory

Correct Nick, plus he'll be a year older so no idea how his responses will fare in that time.
Loved him while he was here, but the injury took the wind out of our sails. Realistically we need
to consider decent CH's who are currently available.

oh right sorry didnt know souttar was out till christmas thats him out of the equation then i think holding could be interesting and possible captain material we have to take that off robbo and agree with a previous poster holding and tanganka if hes ok on the left would be a very good centre back pairing
