Taking WTFC to Court?

Got some Wendys on my Facebook giving it large, saying we're taking Worksop Town to court over an unpaid bill of £3,000 from 2007, and are now requesting 50% of the gate receipts from the friendly this pre-season.

Any of you guys know anything about it? Hope it's not the case.

It becomes petty when we make headlines for suing a small, struggling local neighbour for a sum which is less than two days' wages for a single first team player. We need to co-operate with clubs like Worksop Town, not fall out with them.

OK, debts are debts, and it doesn't matter whether it's £3K or £3M, I'm just saying that for the amount they're talking about, surely they could have come to some agreement without the need for all this after 4 years.

I hardly think that our porcine neighbours are in a position to lecture regarding payment of/chasing up debts.

It sounds like the Worksop Chairman is talking out of his a*se to me. He says there "gaps in the paperwork" but he's offered to pay a reduced amount.
If he's so certain they don't owe us the money, why offer to reach a settlement? Why not just tell us to get stuffed?
It also appears we agreed to play them in a friendly, so they could raise some funds to pay us with.
They then turn round and say "thanks for the friendly but we're still not paying the full amount. How about another friendly next year?".
They're taking the piss, good on United for standing up to them.

So they fact that they have a new owner, who in the story says he has paid off all debts now means they are still struggling. The debt is from 2007.. If you could just tell them to let us know when they can afford it. Thanks

Thats how legal disputes work. United think they are right, Worksop think they are right. No-one knows for certain what a Court will think. If Worksop lost the court case, not only would they have to pay the £3000, they would have to pay legal costs. If United lost the case, they would not get the £3000 and would have to pay Worksop's legal costs.

It can therefore make perfect commercial sense for both parties to agree on payment of a lesser sum, even if both are convinced they are right.

Agree 100%. The "They're only a poor little football club, be nice and write off their debt" stuff doesn't wash with me. Pay your bills or fuck off out of business.

Yes, I understand that but it seems to me we're very confident of proving our case in court.

As for wendy they didn't pay the Co-op, Children's Hospital so no surpirise they are defending not paying your debts.

I don't think it's bad publicity at all. It shows our club is trying to operate on good commercial principles.

They've been chasing the money for four years so they've done their best to settle it amicably and privately.

It's a football debt so all football debts have to be paid no matter who is in charge. It's new owners not a new club (if it was they would have to start at the lowest level in the league again).
Same principle applies for the feller that is taking over at Plymouth. He could blow a swift one to the £3.6 million in unpaid wages to the players by the same token but he can't

Do you know exactly what Birch did whilst employed buy the Club?

I certainly don't.

It's easy to make ill-informed comments when you don't know any facts.

(I'm not defending Birch or his salary; it seems a lot of money, but then I never met the guy, or McCabe either. Maybe he was working his socks off behind the scenes. Maybe he was doing very little. I just don't know so I wouldn't make accusations).
