Tafazolli

Tafazolli, ticks a couple of the boxes, young up and coming, but if the prospective players want to take the piss then we should be telling them to do one, are we not sick of seeing players here who have come for the money and try and bleed up dry cos we have been a soft touch.

No matter what Tafazolli goes on to do, unless he wanted to be here for the right reasons then I am glad we have had the back bone to say no, on you go else where good luck to you.

There are other options and lots of them at this level, both League 1 / 2 and possible conference, that would be hungry and wanting to play for Sheffield United not a large pay out.

Was at the lane Thursday agent wanted 10k CW told him to fuck off posh paying him 8k those days are gone of paying average players demanding wages , happy days

I’d say a player proven no higher than mid-table in the bottom tier warrants no more than say £4k per week with a decent bonus for promotion.

Good league 1 centre halves are ten a penny. Him being left footed was his big positive, he's not worth 5 times the average wage in L1 just for being left footed. Glad we told him to get fucked.

Being 6”5 is also quite handy.

I think the important thing to remember is that he has only signed for Peterborough. Doesn't sound like he fits into the pressing CB wilder is looking for.

Won't get much better than when he started demanding Herbert/Ricky to meet up with him.

Erm…. This is a bit awkward

“Listen, I'm all for someone disagreeing with my posts, but if little weasels like you are going to insist on calling me a cunt over the internet, then it's only fair I hint at that being being attempted face to face. You're the one seemingly so brave as to do the name calling on here, so surely it's on you to get that repeated in a real environment. Inbox me the details, or don't talk shit over the internet.”

No, I don't either. It will quickly be added to the store of 'facts' though....

Odd that the player is at the ground at all really, isn't it? You'd think we might have known in advance that he wanted 10 grand and saved him a trip?...perhaps players and agents don't have phones these days? Was the CEO there telling him to 'do one' as well? Maybe the technical board too? All shouting 'do one' to hapless player and agent through loud hailers?

It's all BOLLOCKS [there you are, capital letters, that means I'm right].

It's almost like ITKers are complete Snake Oil Salesmen of the highest order, isn't it?

Only it can't be that so there must be some really convoluted reason as to why this turned out to be so wrong.

So what would you do? Not standing up for the board but this is where it is incredibly difficult for them to get it right.

Buy him, turns out crap....board are cunts.
Don't buy him turns out great...board are cunts.
Aging player looking for a last 2 seasons....McCall...great..Hammond....cunts

It is a lottery at this level but gets easier the higher up you go

Which further emphasises the importance of good scouting. Most of us have only seen a bit here and there of Tafazolli such as the youtube reel on here etc. Professional scouts should have watched him aplenty and formed a good idea of just how good he is in comparison to other prospective targets and decide what he’s worth in the context of the market. I pulled a figure of £4k per week out of thin air before based on age, the club he’s coming from, how proven he is etc. but without properly studying the player, knowing what other similar players are on etc. then we don’t really know what is an appropriate sum to offer though I must say £10k per week seems ridiculous to me.

I can and here's why.

Peterborough don't need to buy almost a full squad.

They want the lad....they put in a bid he wouldn't refuse. 8k a week....£400k a year!
But here's the tricky bit.....what's the fee?

They might have had to pay 500k and above, plus salary to sign a similar player on a contract elsewhere. This lad was free, so therefore they could offer him a chunk of the money they saved on a transfer fee. Something we have been doing for years.

However, we need a shed load of players....therefore paying half that will allow us to get more players in from whatever budget we have set to overhaul the squad.
Sadly, we have been outbid by Posh....as it seems have a couple of Championship clubs. I say sadly because it's hard to comprehend we cannot compete with them but those are the circumstances we are in.

I just hope it doesn't bite us on the Arse, but with us you can see this lad going to the premier league for 8m and us looking rather silly.

Fully realise an explanation can be constructed about how Peterborough, theoretically, could pay a defender £8k a week. But, I wonder, have Peterborough ever paid a player wages like that before (even when they were in the Championship)?

As I've said above, I just don't buy it. That'll be the sort of wages Wigan were paying Craig Morgan last year in all probability.

Just seems a very convenient "explanation" that the club have allowed to seep out, so that righteous anger can be directed towards the monstrous money-grabber Tafazolli.

I just think he's chosen Peterborough (who've probably been courting him for a good while now) over us, with us both offering similar wages. We're not necessarily a fantastic prospect all-in-all as things stand right now. Maybe he sees them as having more stability, fewer problems, more ability to guarantee him first team football.

In honesty, I'm disappointed we didn't snare him and that he's gone to a potential promotion rival. But, there you go. It's all about who we do get in now. Better/similar standard to Tafazolli? Or cheap cast offs? Time will tell. Still got plenty of faith in Wilder though on the basis of his first two signings.

Fuck him, fuck them, fuck 'em all. If you don't want to come to us fuck off. If you are already here and won't bleed for the shirt fuck off. I've had enough of fuckers that don't want to play for us so you can all fuck off over there, and when you get there fuck off some more. In fact fuck off that much that you come back to me so I can tell you to fuck off again.

And that's swearing.

You'd be great on the phone with PPI sales people :)

I have no idea if posh have paid that before. They have had some good players, so I reckon they may well have done.
But in the scheme of things, when you think Hammond was on 34k a week....an average (at his best)premier league player....there will be many championship players earning well over 10k a week.

So It's hard to believe, but there will be a lot of players in L1 who earn between 5-10k a week. And add to that the fan expectation of players who come here, and the fact we are the biggest team in this league means that any player can earn similar to us at Scunny...or wherever without the pressure and hassle.

I think Wilder may well have his work cut out to get the job done.

Yeah, that's exactly the problem as I see it too. Wigan didn't attract the likes of Sam Morsy for romantic reasons - they got him because they could pay him a Championship wage. We're now in the position of competing, wages-wise, on a relatively level playing ground. But the whole host of baggage we carry could prove pretty unattractive to a fair few potential signings. Wilder's got his work cut out, like you say.

As for Peterborough, I doubt any of their players are on over £5k (including Tafazolli), most of them on considerably less.

Tafazolli just preferred them to us, in my view.

could just be Location preferring the south over north?

We must replace the sign over the entrance at the lane to say. . . . . . . . . . This goose ain't laying anymore golden eggs . . . . . So fuck right off.

Could well have been a factor in his decision. But not an overwhelmingly important one, I'd have thought. Sheffield to London: 170 miles. Peterborough to London: 100 miles.

true, working in London and having a few people here who travel in from Peterborough, makes it seem closer, but bang on it cant have been that important, I still think if any player wants to come to the lane Location and to a degree money would not be huge factors as the week in week out of playing in front of 20k at home must have some allure alone?

Amazed there is all this fuss over rumour and speculation. Also surprised we are suddenly all high and mighty about how much players playing for us should earn. Comments like "I'm glad WIlder told him to fuck off if he thinks he is worth that". What has it got to do with us? If Wilder then goes and signs a couple of shit players for ten bob is that ok because they only cost ten bob? No matter what we are paying (and I really don't give a shit) I just want the best players for my club. I want promotion. I hope Wilder was right to tell him to do one but it does concern me that we are so bought into what players cost us (via ITK sources to cap it off). Fact is none of us will know until the season gets underway if we have the right players, manager or anything else.

£1k or £10k per week? I don't care, I want promotion. I want us to start batting our average again and not lying like a rotting corpse in the Third fucking division.

See your point, I just struggle to imagine someone who hasn't played at a higher level being worth that amount (if it's even true). The only ones who really know if he is worth that are Wilder and his coaching staff. The fact he has gone elsewhere would suggest to me that maybe Wilder had gone as far as he wished to go with whatever package was on offer. A shame, but we move on.

Agree with the sentiments, 10k a week isn't bad for a young prospect who will have a re sale value and ambition to succeed, coupled with skill and talent, it's just that we've not been buying that have we ( Adams apart ) we've bought old pals and former darlings well past thier sell by date, wilders strategy can't fail can it with the last two managers horror show as a backdrop...

All blades want the best players and to get out of this division, but unfortunately football is in the majority a business, so over paying players as we have done is not viable for a sustained period of time, Hopefully CW and the board get it right and find a balance between getting the right players and at the right price and wage.

it could be we fall short, but falling short doing the right things would be easier to rectify, that the whole sale changes it needed to resolve the last lot of issues both the mangers and Board let happen over a few seasons.

I for one hope that CW give us the Blades identity back playing good football and brings the good times back to Bramall lane, and if we fall short he is kept and can make the changes needed to go up the year after in needs be, as a club we need to heel from all the issues of the last few seasons and start to be Sheffield United again.

Our identity has got lost in my opinion because in no small part we have behaved like some great corporate monster. Looked at Directors of Football, Global brands, Europe in 5 years, football clubs owned in various parts of the world, Bryan Robson (the name rather than the quality of the manager), Executives getting paid whacking great salaries, getting paid off a year later and adding nothing to the club. An Academy that has Premiership costs while we languish in the third division.

We are Sheffield United but Kevin McCabe thought he was president of Barcelona or Real Madrid. We put in a structure that was massively bloated. Poor management from the top has cost us more dearly than anything Adkins or Clough did or didn't do. Combine that with hair trigger firing of managers, total mismanagement of transfer budgets given to people like Robson then pulling the rug away from Blackwell and Wilson just when they were getting things sorted.

If anyone wants to know where our identity got lost is was back in 2006/07 when McCabe thought he had hit the big time. Right at that point when he fired Warnock without actually having a plan lined up to replace him. Others have done little to help, but paying someone £10k a week after the tens if not hundreds of millions frittered away by McCabe in lost opportunities this past ten years are in my opinion almost totally to blame.

Absolutely. Just look how it's developed as well. On no evidence whatsoever [the bollocks posted by fifteen minute fameseekers being no evidence] it is now well established that:

We were interested in this player.
He visited the Lane.
We had no prior notice, despite having done all the due diligence, spoken to parasitic agent and all that stuff, that he wanted 10 grand a week.
We never even asked.
Much to our surprise and for the very first time, he asked for ten grand a week.
Our manager, who seems to be no fool, was taken aback by this revelation. He had no idea that this player, by now face to face with him at our ground, wanted such remuneration.
Tufty and his men immediately shouted in unison "Do one..."
Player and agent, shoulders slumped and heads down, did one.
Everyone involved wondered why the fuck they've bothered and resolved to mention the small matter of salary, at least in broad terms, in advance next time..
Third division Peterborough stepped in, waving a wad of Championship proportions, and cheered up Fourth Division footballer with a salary equivalent to a moderate lottery win.

All that happened. It really did. It is definitely not a load of bollocks. I know someone whose mate plays for Mansfield Town and he knows all about it...

For anyone who still doubts me, wait for it........

FACT.

Did you not care that we were paying Sammon and Hammond a reputed weekly salary between them amounting to around £30k per week I know I did
Third Division clubs shouldnt be forking out anything like £8k a week for a player who is from the 4th division and is unproven in this League its sheer madness, thats why football is in the mess its in
