Good summary.
In business you have to take away the emotion and be pragmatic.
The bottom line is if he stays you could argue we’ve benefited and if he goes you can argue we’ve benefited.
What will be…will be….we can’t lose either way.
Agree, a midfield of Peck and Arblaster is an exciting prospect. Still young with a high probability that both will improve over the years.
I think what we have to consider, regardless of our new owners is that we need to be sustainable as a club. We've built a very solid foundation to develop young players whether they've been with us all the way through the academy or they were players we picked up because they were released from other clubs, we've generated big money through this route. What we have to ensure is that we safeguard this as a business model for ourselves, especially with the ambition to get a top category academy (is it 1 or A, i forget

)
The notion that if we have rich owners that we shouldn't sell is nonsense. We should use the sales in the right way and sell players for higher than we paid (or cost of development). The Prince understood this and i think it was even him or one of his spokespeople that reiterated this around the time Hecky took over from Slav. Its a sound business strategy and is used by many clubs, not always through academies, like Brentford have proved, but with a view to developing and moving players once their value has increased significantly.
We've had some success and failures over the years and we will of course always have some that don't make the increase, I think even the likes of Brewster should've been a player that sold for more, but we've had some bad luck with his injuries.
The two fold plan of developing the players whilst using those players to contribute to the success and moving the club forward is right. It's not about sentiment or lacking sentiment from the Club or Player perspective. Its about being realistic and pragmatic.
I'd love to see Peck and Blaster ripping up the leagues for the next 10 years and taking us to European glory, but i think there will be a time when we receive offers for them, Souza and several other players where we can then make the decision to accept bids. I said to Peck / his dad last week that the skys the limit for him, whether he's at United or elsewhere, i'd be happy for him and happy to see his success.
What we also have to keep in mind whilst we're on this route is something we've perhaps been slower to focus on is the next generation. It appears we're working on this now and have been for some time, but the databased scouting seems to be something the club is looking to work together on at all levels. Its one thing to tie down the likes of Peck and several other players down on long contracts which can protect the club, but its also important to be looking at the succession plan, which we're doing, it seems. Its one thing to lose a player for big money, but its another to have the next one in line ready to hit the ground running when called upon either because of sales or injuries.
