I was at the Leicester Tigers game yesterday so missed all radio coverage of the game and no one on here seems to have commented much. Did anyone go? How many gluttons for punishment went? Were they defiantly vocal? Did we basically get shat on?

Help me out here, I gots to know. :hello:

To be fair, going down to 10 men against Swansea was never going to end well. Watching Lowry's handball on the highlights (I use the term loosely) it did appear like he was trying to get his body in the way, but was a second too slow.

Just back from a weekend in Wales.

Typical end of season fayre really.

We were definitely vocal and in good spirits despite what has happened this season and what happened result wise on Saturday.
So much so that the Swansea fans deemed fit to give us, the travelling Blades, a standing ovation and clapped off our coaches and buses.

Was an interesting line-up and despite my usual thoughts, I was a little worried to see so many of the young ones involved when they have their big two-legged final just over the hill.

Long made a good start, a few good saves and didn't particularly look out of place (though, and this is without the benefit of replays, I'd suggest he'll be a little dissapointed with at least two of the goals.).

Swansea didn't look much better than us for me until the sending off. Yes they played the ball fairly well, but their main tactic was to pass neatly forward to the faster players who would then run at a man and go to ground. Again not seen the replay, but the freekick from which they scored their first was exactly that.

The sending off looked more unlucky than anything to me, it was hard to tell if it was handball and him and Maguire had done well to block the ball.

We struggled to create with being thin on the ground up front, Slew, whilst isolated, didn't have his greatest match and his touch let him down a few times.

The only time we really went forward with any promise was when Quinny drove forward and encouraged the likes of Williamson to join him.

Once we were down to ten, it was always going to be incredibly difficult to keep possession and create. I'd have liked to have seen us got 2 up front fairly early with Tonne and/or Philliskirk put to use.

Overall, another match to forget in a season full of them, but I was pleased with the atmosphere and attitude from the Blades support and a few of the players.

Best part of the match - Swansea had a decent effort that went wide, causing 3 sides of the stadium to celebrate wildly, the goal music to play, the announcement to be made and the scoreboard changed. Whilst this was happening, the Blades were taking the piss and a bemused George Long was setting up probably the noisiest goal kick he'll ever take!

I'm sure it's been mentioned already and Foxy's touched on it above, but the Swansea fans were great yesterday.

There were a few early chants of "going down" which seemed to peter out when we took up the mantle and sung it about ourselves :D

The stadium announcer wished us luck, saying we were a great team with a great tradition and the Swansea fans clapped us out of the ground. I know they were in party mode and it was a nothing match for us, but it was a nice gesture.

I've got to say too... the people we encountered in Swansea were the friendliest most deranged set I've ever had the pleasure to meet. We had a great weekend :D

Never done a video before so not sure whether this will work....

On the 'planetswans' Swansea forum there are fans who went to the game asking why it was disallowed ("was it for offside?" etc)

Also a lot of positive comments about our support on that forum (together with a lot of extremely negative comments about our team!)

 It hit the post behind the net holding the thing up and the ball rolled behind. You can see from the vid why they were fooled, but the ball didn't go in the net.

Yeah, I've seen plenty of near misses momentarily taken for goals before of course, but never one where some fans even after the game still think it went in and are trying to work out why it wasn't given!

My favourite bit of the clip is when the person with the camera turns it towards the Blades fans to capture our desolation, only to see us taking the piss.... :-)

I love going out on the lash in Swansea.

It's all ex-public schoolboys or ex-miners homo-erotic egg chasing regardless of the merits of 15 or 13.

Touching bottoms and drinking each other's piss after. Apparently.

Best comment of the day so far.

We'll just stick this here so you don't have to go to the OS to see the pic of your faithful admins ;)

The travelling Sheffield United fans in Wales on Saturday left the Liberty Stadium amazed by the reception and send-off they received from their hosts.

Despite the Blades already knowing the fate of their team, hundreds of supporters still travelled to Wales, many of them in fancy dress.

During the game the home supporters applauded the Blades following on more than one occasion when they danced a Conga through the stand and sang their support for the team as loud as ever.

The stadium announcer was most gracious at the final whistle and complimented both Sheffield United Football Club itself and its loyal supporters, finishing by wishing us all the very best for next season.

When the Blades support left on their coaches after the final whistle they were flanked on either side of the road by Swansea City supporters.

The home fans applauded them warmly, genuinely offering them a thumbs-up, showing respect for the fans with regard to the position of the team and the faith of the travelling support.

Richard Batho, who was on one of the coaches, said:

"It was a real genuine show of respect from supporters to supporters. The home fans have a lot to proud of but not least is the way they welcomed us and saw us off with every good wish.

"Football supporters all too often make the headlines for all the wrong reasons and on this occasion it was all about the family football coming together.

"Our hosts know the pain of relegation, as do most genuine supporters, and they knew how we would be feeling.

"But as has been the case all this season we travelled in good numbers and in great voice which was pleasantly and respectfully recognised by our hosts. Obviously in return we wish Swansea City supporters the all best for the forthcoming play-offs."

The team which had a number of the young players from the successful academy team were supported vociferously from the first whistle to the last by the dedicated Blades away following.

Union is better than league in my opinion but I admit to not really having watched much. Football beats both games by a country mile. The good nature of the fans at Welford Road and the huge amount of booze available (including in your seat) was a plus. Folk seemed to be going to enjoy a spectacle rather than venting their spleen on the latest scapegoat who is deemed to be responsible for all their life's woes. Football is the safety valve of the masses no doubt.

Anyhoo, it was free, with food and a free bar. How can that not be good.
