Surprised ??

The most telling point of all at the moment is that McEveley is the club captain. That tells you all you need to know about the shit pile we are in and what Adkins has to play with.
His sound bites of unity are a sign he has no money to invest to the sum it needs to be and unless we get rid of the mediocrity that -ve left us with we are going to have to make do.

So, we are going to have to make do then.

I predict many more Saturday's like the one just gone. I just cannot see how we can make sufficient changes to address it.
Can't get rid of the shit so can't improve the squad.

You said " but the point is it's been ONE GAME!"

Fact is it's been all last season and some people [not necessarily you] think the donkeys are going to wake up one morning as thoroughbreds?

I think our respective points are somehow the same although angled slightly differently.

I'm saying there is some talent in the squad and the manager needs a little more time to add to what we have and fine tune it. Basically we aren't the finished article but are far from screwed.

I now take it you're saying we have certain key deficiencies and should not have expected too much too quickly. Which is basically saying the same thing but with (if I may say so) a more negative slant.

I can think of three examples where sides were well beaten on the opening day and went on to win the league. Of course there is no guarantee the same will happen with us but the point is it's been ONE GAME!

But, of course, it isn't ONE GAME. It's a continuation of the crap we witnessed all last season (and most of the season before). Far from 'over reacting' most fans had a right to expect a new start re. manager, tactics, motivation, signings etc. It seems it's going to be the 'same old'.

A new broom sweeps clean?

I would absolutely support the sentiment of the original and subsequent posts. This isn't a one game issue, we are broadly playing the same squad which has the same deficiencies as last season, the deficiencies that Nigel mark 1 got absolute pelters for and are plain to see even for a blind man wearing a blindfold.

I know the quote has been done to death, but “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”.

I am desperately hoping that Nigel Mark 2 reacts to Saturdays result so that we can start doing different things and getting different results!

George Long has played 80 times for the SUFC first team in all competitions, plus his time in Scotland and Oxford. If, after all that (or maybe because of that), he still hasn't the confidence to command his box and deal with the likes of Collins I think we can conclude that it will be a long time before he is ready and good enough for the first team ( and quite probably never).

I watched the highlights of a high percentage of the games he appeared in on BP last night and the failure to deal with crosses and cock-ups and confusion with his back 4 (Collins and HM especially) was particularly evident. He was a better keeper when he first came in to the side than he is now in my book. The lad has gone backwards I think and I don't think he has what it takes mentally. He looks plain Frit.

On the highlights videos I saw more than enough to know that George Long is not going to do the business for us this season and quite probably never will. I'd give Willis a run at Morecombe and hope Howard recaptures the form of early last season, but neither will keep clean sheets with that defence in front of them. It needs sorting and quick.

Gillingham was more than just a bad day at the office. It reminds me of the old story about four people named Everyone, Someone, Anyone and No-one.

There was an important job to be done and Everyone was sure that Someone would do it. Anyone could have done it, but No-one did it. Someone got angry about that because he thought that it was Everyone’s job. Everyone thought that Anyone could do it, but No-one realised that Everyone wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everyone was angry with Someone because No-one did what Anyone could have done.

Everyone, Someone, Anyone and No-one shouldn't be wearing the red and white. Take responsibility and get it done.

I really don't see how he can turn it around.
He has already highlighted that you need 5-6 players in a team that can head the ball in both defensive and attacking situations
He already knew that we didn't have one at the club capable of doing this.
He loans one player capable of heading a ball (Sammon) but he is a forward - and not a first choice forward.
He identified their long throw as a potential danger
Either none of the useless fuckers listened or they are too fucking useless to do anything about it.

How the fuck can +ve Nige do anything to change that squad to counter the weaknesses without binning off half of the dross and replacing it with blokes with bollocks and an ability to compete?
And that's just to get to any level of competition not even remotely getting to a point of bossing teams.
Given FFP rules and the millstone of the set of no hopers in that squad he won't be able to shift, he's got fucking no chance.

All true but, in that case, somebody was telling porkies at NAs job interview. Either the board suggested that funds were available or NA said he was happy with what he'd seen and major spending wasn't needed.

Cyprus what a wonderful explanation not heard that before and straight to the point

Would have imagined Wigan would have been Surprised also. hope they the fans dont give up after ONE. admitted terrible game give the bloke a chance if we had won the game 4-0 we would have thought hes done his job promotion no problem but we didnt lets get over it and get on to the next game if nothing changes say in the next couple of games fair enough have reason to complain one game neither makes you promotion or relegation candidates

To be fair .... if we had won the game 4 - 0 I would have been gobsmacked ..... utterly stunned tbh !!

We just do not have the squad yet for automatic promotion to be even considered and I for one am not interested at all in fu**ing crappy play-offs !!

I 'liked' this for the use of '+ve Nige'

Same old? You've concluded that?! After (and I repeat) ONE GAME?!

Let him work with them ffs, let him sign a few more players ffs! Contrary to popular belief a good pre season doesn't iron out old habits. Give him some time! Some of you have literally no patience.....I'm sure you'll tell me you've been very patient over the last few years. Adkins and the players he's bringing in weren't around during those years hence give them a chance.....
