24k v Wigan is an excellent crowd considering we were averaging under 20k until recently. We weren't top of the league going into the game and anyone can watch a stream instead these days. I bet there are quite a few who do.

When I was young I didn't have a s/t and neither did most of my mates. Often we didn't commit 100 percent to going to the game until the saturday morning. When we went it was normal to down four or five beers beforehand and then make some noise on the kop. I imagine there are far fewer casual attenders these days.

Made me think this thread. I stay to the end but leave my seat when whistle blows applauding down the steps. Players have run like mad for 95 min but still walk the ground applauding the supporters when they really want to sit down. As supporters not casual viewers reckon we should respect this and give the players and our future prospects a boost by staying and returning their applause. Not getting up now till they've passed the Kop.

Nobody is disputing that they can do what they like, just as I / we can feel what we like about them doing it (aside from the last 10 minutes of the game are ruined by constant standing / sitting).

But what can’t be disputed is that it’s not an act of supporting the team, as the OP raised. The old art of vocally supporting the team, to the end, was an undisputed advantage. Leaving in droves because letting the cat out or whatever is more important is clearly just the opposite.

Neither you or I know why individuals leave early. Some might have to get to work, or maybe they need to make a flight. Perhaps they’ve had some unexpected news and suddenly need to leave. Out of 20 odd thousand people there will be a reasonable minority that have to leave early for all sorts of reasons.

Debating whether these people are supporting the team properly only serves to demonstrate one thing.....that in modern society everyone has to have an opinion about everything.....right down to how long someone else stays in their seat and cheers.

Those that want to complain about having to stand up and sit down a lot shouldn’t bother going to any public seated events. That’s life, get over it. Ain’t all about me/you.

Why the fuck are people flooding out the gangways 10 minutes before the whistle?

Unless 4 thousand people just got their houses robbed and have to rush home, I fail to see how taking 30 seconds of your time to support the team that just took us to the top is a massive inconvenience to you.

It baffles me, it’s not hard to wait a minute after the game and clap the players. It takes more energy to walk up flights of stairs to the exit.

The truth is they are off to see a movie, which they will leave ten minutes before the end, because they’ve booked a restaurant table, which they’ll leave before dessert, because they’ve recorded Strictly, which they want to watch before learning the results, which they’ll turn off before the last two couples have danced because it’s time for bed, which they’ll leave ten minutes before the alarm goes off because...

It's not a big issue, but a bit of consideration for others makes life a little more pleasant. When I go to the theatre, I don't have to be constantly missing bits of the action with people arriving late from the bar, then going out 15 minutes later, coming back in, going to the bar 5 minutes before the interval to avoid queueing, etc., and then leaving 5 minutes before the end. Makes it easier to enjoy the action... And the final applause is part of the ritual.

Well that’s just it. You’re missing the point I’m making entirely. Part of that more elaborate point is that it doesn’t matter why people are leaving early. No one has reasonable cause to criticise them for doing so, irrespective of the reason for it.

Don’t think I’ll bother starting that thread thanks. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The fuckers leaving early ARE the bloody traffic!
I can’t honestly see the point in leaving early just to get home that bit earlier. It’s excusable if you’ve got a good reason, but just getting home for tea before half five is a shit reason.

The whole structure needs knocking down and rebuilding with a safe standing area AT THE FRONT with seating behind.

Don’t believe that’s a realistic option.

Imagine being in the PL and reducing the stadium capacity down to 20,000.
Some current season tickets hiders will need to be told they can’t watch a match for a year or 2.
Also not 1 casual fan or new fan would be allowed to attend.

If current season ticket holders are refused admission, they’ll be pissed off, find something else to do, then might not return. Also any temporary stadium reduction is a massive decrease in revenue and will add to the overall costs.

McCabe said at the time the beauty about the current plans is that they will be done whilst we’re in the PL and stadium capacity would hardly be affected as the new stands are being built behind the current stands.

When my daughter came over from Spain, I phoned the ticket office and explained she lived in Spain,why she wasn't on the data base and that she wanted to attend with her mother, father, sister and son as a family day out and she got a ticket. Depends how much you want a ticket.

I didn't think it would be long before you came along. When I commented on clubs apparent lack of interest in targetting Sheffield's student population they all miraculously appeared sitting near you in the South Stand in seats usually occupied by ST holders. Now that I've made a point about the hoops casual supporters have to jump through to get a ticket maybe you're going to tell me they all sit in the empty seats next to the Chinese students in the SS adjacent to you.
