I have been one of the biggest critics of Blackwell over the last 18 months and I have to say I'm delighted to see him moved on at last.

Gary Speed is a bold choice as Hoofys replacement as he is young and inexperienced in management and therefore I believe as Supporters of the Blades we have a responsibility now to get behind Gary and the team, wholeheartedly and do everything we can to help them both.

I cannot believe given his pedigree and the comments he's made, that he will want to continue the same style of hoofball as we have had to put up with for the last 18 months. I, for one, will be happy to see entertaining football, a couple of new additions, and a top 10 finish this season. This would represent a good solid start to his managerial career and give us a base to build on for next year.

If he can be supported financially by ther Board and allowed some funds now and some in january, then maybe even a playoff push may be possible in, yet another poor division this year.

COME ON SPEEDO and COME ON YOU RED AND WHITE WIZARDS :-)

Im not expecting too much TBH.

I think we should give him time to make his mark.

I agree that we should give Speed time..now he has been given the job. However, where did you see in the interview that the style is going to change? He said that results were the most important....yes, but I thought we wanted to see a change. Keeping Ellis does not inspire confidence. I WILL give Speedo a chance but I am not not as happy as I was at this time yesterday. Perhaps I will be reassured by the appointment of the coach.

One thing about Speed is that he has only just passed his 'A' licence so should have all the latest ideas and techniques fresh in his mind. He also must be aware of the fans feelings of how we want to see a change of style. I think he is being very clever by stating that results are important - rather than stating he will change how we play straight away. Good luck to him and lets hope he is given some time to get things sorted i.e. well into next season. As long as I can see signs that things are moving in the right direction I will be happy to give him that time. UTB

We can only change our style of play if we have the players to do it, and im not 100% sure we have.

It also takes time to do this.

I predict we will have alot more fight and urgency to our game though.

"I can put my own stamp on the team and bring the culture to the club, or a renewal of culture that we need."

Funny how people choose to hear of continuity with the previous regime when they could equally read this sentence.

I agree, I am yet to feel that surge of new manager optimisim as to me there is still two out of the three members of staff who were involved in the previous regime which most of us were pleased had come to the end last Saturday. It will be interesting to see if there are any noticable differences to playing style etc as you would have thought at least one of them may have challenged Blackwell if they thought things were being done wrong, particurlarly Ellis who had worked with Blackwell at other clubs

I appreciate what Speed is saying about results being important, but to win games you have to score goals.Starting at Middlesbrough on Sunday i hope to see us set up to win the game rather than not to get beat and the negative tactic Hoofy employed of one up front and the ball just coming straight back at us.

i think its long before time that we actually got something to get excited about and i think this is it,a new young manager with energy and ideas, respect throughout the game,a gentleman of the sport who hasnt got a bad bone in his body, comes across well, interviews well, liked by the fans and best of all can pull a couple of irons from the fire with his pedigree.lets hope the tide has turned and we can watch some entertaining football thats worth our wages.UTB

he worries me when he has ellis as his assistant and says gud things about cheap as chips ! ....perhaps he has more faces than the town clock.....lets hope so.
I actually think given time he will be a great manager.

How much time will he get bb?

Well teh players we shit at Blackwells 4-5-1 negative balls so theres no reason why they cant play differently? bassett to kendall/kendall to spackman is two examples of what a change of style can do

Wasn't it the Pro licence he just completed? Reason I ask is they are two different licences the 'A' and the 'Pro'. I think it the Pro because I believe thats the one you need to manage at Premiership level. (When we get there under him)

I hope this is him learning the art of diplomacy. It wouldn't relect well on him personally or professionally to bad mouth Hoofy now he's gone and he will have more respect among his fellow managers for not doing so. He's going to need a few favours from his peers (other managers) over the next couple of years so I think he was qiute wise in this respect.

I share most peoples reservations about retaining Ellis as assistant, but maybe he feels comfortable with his experience behind him. I think the appointment of the new 1st team coach is much more relevant to the future than Ellis will be. Will be interesting to see who it is.

I think that if we are ALL prepared to be patient and give Speed a chance and our full and very vocal support, he could be a great success at United, given a bit of financial support from the Board.:D
