Sadly - if we do not go up & get the Prem money - I think that may be curtains for them. Already cut budget big time last summer….so this looks like it is only going one way. Shame - but if the money is not there to support this project so be it. Priority has to be the Men’s Team.
You have no idea what the owners intentions are around this
No one does

Wow - what a weird response? Last time I checked I thought this was a fans forum for people to be allowed to express their own opinion. So that is all I have done.

If we all knew exactly what our owners had planned we could shut this forum down.

Wow …. Just wow!

You can have whatever opinion you want as long as it's the same as Frank's

As for your opinion, you are dead right IMO,
Any team failing to go back up to the Premier League will have to cut costs.

The new owners intentions will have nothing to do with it, FFP rules will

No, it won't, and trying to say this without sounding sexist is difficult.......but why?
Why do we even bother with a women's team?

We're noted for doing things on the cheap, so why do something that's already cheap, on the cheap

We'll have to wait and see. We did noticeably bring a few rubbish players in on loan from the WSL after the takeover, which is more than the Prince bothered to do.

I think we need to keep going with it. There is a fanbase there and we, in a way, have a duty to give it a go. It surely can't cost that much to fund it at the level below Championship for a year? I'd love to know the actual finances, but the fact we already have all the infrastructure etc it can't be that much. If we're talking a few hundred thousand, then that's nothing.

We have a successful girl's/women's academy set-up, so you would think half the squad could step up from there. It seems mad to trash the investment in that alone. Especially when it's going well.

You’re right. You didn’t manage to say it without sounding sexist.

No ! The forum would be full of complaints as to what they have planned !

Sadly that probably means some of them will have no job. They cannot expect to be fully professional in what is effectively League 1.

My Daughter is a big fan of the Ladies team and for that reason I would like to see them bounce back. The Ladies team has been on a downward spiral ever since the unfortunate passing of Maddy which is very understandable. Ladies football in the states is huge so this might possibly bode well for the future of our Ladies team given our new owners, time will tell on that one. The WSL continues to grow in popularity/stature so it would take a big commitment to get them to that level should that be the intention of the new owners, again time will tell.

put it this way, should girls grow up with the dream of being able to play for the club they love as much as young boys? You could probably fund the women/girl's teams for 10 years for one Tom Cannon ffs.

But surely you understand why…..we live in a financial world not an idealistic…everyone is equal world.
Tom Cannon could play a part in bringing £100 million a season to the club.

The same girl when she develops and grows older will likely bring in nothing directly financial to the club and will probably cost the club a small amount financially
The young girl brings to the club goodwill, positive image and a family spirit which….fair enough…do arguable bring indirect financial benefits.

It usually all boils down to an argument around "what we want to be".

A football club
A league position
A balance sheet

Choose football...

I actually agree….well said…but sooner or later an accountant starts having words.
I also agree with Frank…the owners are American and will want to show a positive, family image. In the short term think they’ll stand to any losses however someone needs a clear vision/ plan regards what we want to do with the women’s team regards putting foundations in place.

People said last season, the Prince took his eye off the ball regards the men’s team when he stopped paying some bills for 2 or 3 months
but regards the women’s team it was rank negligence…he just hung them out to dry….shocking really.

I do wonder about whether there's a way to get a stadium on the cheap. For the women and development teams to use. 5k tops but could be 3k.

It's no good teams playing games out of town or in huge empty stadiums.

I guess we could do it at door. There's public transport up there.

Very disappointing outcome after a negligent summer. Wrote a load of thoughts about it here for those interested - how it came about and what comes next: https://open.substack.com/pub/womenofsteel/p/relegation-for-sheffield-united-women

A good game yesterday, the players really gave it everything they had.
It just feels like United could have spent Cannon's agent's fee on the team in January and kept them up. I know the new owners brought some loanees in but they largely seem no better than what we already had and presumably cost nothing/next to nothing.
