The answer might be right under our noses. The second striker that we've been looking for could be... Keiron Freeman. He wouldn't be the first player to switch from fullback to striker (Kevin Phillips bring a good example) and he's clearly got an eye for a goal - his finishing has been excellent. He works hard, is strong, would chase down and 'run the channels' well, and isn't too bad in the air, either.

I'm not a huge fan of the "would be worth a go..." philosophy in football, but I wonder whether this possibility has been tested in training?

Could try him there for the reserves when Baldock ousts him from wing back, but it'd be an emergency option, not a solution.

Not the worst idea I've heard on this forum by a long way.

The Grunters tried something similar years ago with a defender called Paul Warhurst and it was a sensational success - 12 goals in as many games and an England call up as a striker !

It would certainly be an improvement on Matt ' he runs around a lot and makes a fucking nuisance of himself' Done or James 'he jumps up and down a lot and makes a fucking nuisance of himself' Hanson.

It's alright everyone taking the p1ss but when Hanson leaves and the Watford lad goes to Norwich we might have no choice with Evans and Lavery injured !

I couldn't care less what Hanson does. No disrespect to the lad, but he may as well leave because he's got nothing to offer at this level of football imo. He's too old and too slow.

The strikers have been a weakness for us since before the first ball of the new season was kicked. Age, injuries, inexperience, lack of pace. Those 4 things sum up why I've said that all along.

It's ok though. This isn't a disaster. We have Sharp and Brooks who could play together, supported by Duffy and/or Carruthers. But yes, another striker with a bit of pace would be handy.

Nice try Kevin

Freeman? Not for me, I don't see the turn of speed or cleverness needed. He scored loads last season as a one off arriving late once the strikers had dragged the defence out of shape. If nobody comes in it's got to be youth players, I know this has been done to death but it'll have to be 'who's closest to the first team and not who's ready'.

Ajax and total football comes to mind

It could work if we were struggling at the end of a game. We did it a few times with Halford. However I don't think it should be a 90 minutes solution, it's too risky.

If we're looking for a short term fix without bringing anyone else in or starting Ched then we look no further than Brooks. I believe Brooks would actually wade in with a few goals.

Personally I thought that was Halford's most productive position for us. Too sluggish on the wing, not a good enough defender when right back, but up front he was very effective.

I'm disappointed at the total disregard of the addition of pictures of ladies chesticles!

Both EEL and Collins have played upfront for us.

Just to clarify - I wasn't proposing 'just doing it', I was wondering whether it had been thought about in training. And the 'solution' was, indeed, meant to be temporary.

The timing of those late runs isn't just luck - it's a natural instinct and I think that Freeman has it. Also, I'm being pedantic, but how can you "scores loads as a one-off"? The point is that, when used in a more attacking role for the first, he responded by getting goals. I think that could potentially happen in an even more attacking role.

When Moore comes back, how about Blackman going up front?
He's reight tall and got a striker's name.

As has been said before, and it's not ideal by any means, Wilders hand may be forced on this one.

Instead of the now normal 3:4:1:2 he might have to go 3:4:2:1 with Duffy and Brooks behind Bill.

UTB

I'm sure last season I read something about his dad telling him he should get into more shooting positions because he used to score lots of goals as a kid. I also have a feeling he used to play as a striker as a young kid, but I might be making that part up.

I don't think it's a stupid idea, far from it. Last season it wasn't just about arriving late, he had an almost telepathic understanding in the box with Lavery and he was contributing assists as well as goals. If we don't have any fit first team strikers apart from Billy and Baldock is ready, then I see no harm in considering it, though I'd rather give Brooks a run up top first.
