Strengthening needed

Why can't disappointment be expressed without the need to assign blame to someone?

So is this disappointment in the same way as disappointment from a hard-fought defeat where on another day we might have won? If it is, then I agree.

I'd say the fact that the selling club weren't willing to let them go unless their replacements had been secured is an indication we were going after some quality rather than a 5th choice squad player.
Well isn't it a pity the same thought process doesn't apply to Sheffield United when another club wants one of our players, it was nice to hear Lee Johnson on radio pig this morning crowing about Barnsley rejecting offers for one of their players from a championship club but hey ho we are doing something right going for quality ................ after all nobody wants the duffers.

You're struggling now. I would call it a day.

Clearly what I'm saying is too outlandish for you to even consider.

When I say we should have back up options, I'm struggling!

The world is flat bro.

I wouldn't personally go for the backups if there is still potential for these deals to be done when the loan window opens. If the loan window reopens set a deadline of say, 30th September for these deals to pass over the line - if they're not done move on.

If Adkins really wants these targets, we have to keep trying to get them. The backups could be far inferior.
But in fairness the last back up we signed was Matty Done and that didn't turn out badly...

Either way, after hearing what Adkins had to say last night I don't hold the club responsible. Think it was the right thing to do and it's a shame that we couldn't get these deals done. It sounds like Forest were our hold up re Dan Burn, they wouldn't let Mancienne go to Fulham. And I imagine the failure to get Walters through the door is the reason Leicester haven't let go of Hammond.

This is the issue, at the moment Alcock is one injured player away from being in the starting line up for a League game.

We shouldn't be in that situation.
Alcock's a perfectly decent back up, played really well start of last season, and was solid enough throughout. Played very well at Fulham. You won't get anyone better willing to be back up in League 1, and once Brayford's fit he's 3rd choice. He also only comes in if one specific player (Freeman) gets injured.

Although another centre back would have been nice, we've effectively signed two with the return of Collins. Him and Edgar as first choice with Tel, K wallace, Basham, J Mac as back up, as well as Brayford when he returns, it's not a disastrous position.

For a midfield two we have Basham, Baxter, J Wallace, Reed, K Wallace, Scougall, with Coutts and Flo potentially to return, even Dimaio if desperate. I'd be surprised if any other club had that strength in depth.

So we have basically the same midfield as last year and the same defence plus Edgar?

And you don't think we should be trying to improve on that?

Do tell us how we force other clubs to sell us the players we want. Pay them every penny they ask, however extortionate? Descend on them at dawn with armed mercenaries?

Who said that "everything was going to be sorted in the JTW"? A challenging commitment indeed. I think I'd have remembered if someone had said all our problems would end in January 2015.

You don't help yourself, do you?

...... ermmm the same way other clubs "force" us to sell our players.... (if you believe it works one way then it surely logic dictates it would work the other)

either that or when we are told Murphy or Maguire "forced" us to sell them... is actually just a smoke screen (better known as BS)

Agree with some of the sentiments here.

Yes we need a CB
Yes we need a midfielder
We can't drop Basham in to CB if we get an injury/suspension without weakening midfield.

However it's hard to point the finger at the board as they have invested with real quality players. It's just hard that we seem to invest in the less important areas (but that's the managers choice)

I'm inclined to believe we did do all we could after listening to Adkins interview and the fact he missed the start of the game last night.

I also get the impression the deals are not dead and we could see loans come in. Which although not ideal is better than nothing.

Let's just get behind the lads now. No use putting energy in to matters we can't change.

Maybe but one injured CH at the same time as one is suspended is another Gillingham waiting to happen.

Good that Kennedy started at Hartlepool but what are his knee/s like this season?

We don't need another Centre back anymore

I think the midfield's fine, like I said, another CB would have been nice but it's not the end of the world.

No, it's not. It's disappointing and another wasted opportunity is what it is.

It seems to be a bit of a running theme on here to pretend someone has said something they haven't.

Who has said our wins haven't counted? No one on this thread.

It's also scary that people think because of those wins (brilliant, amazing, excellent wins that they were, before any loses their shit) we don't need defensive reinforcements.

Of course we do. If we want to achieve top 2.

And Nigel clearly thinks so too.

Until this post the implication from you to back your argument was that 4 wins on the spin don't mean anything.

I would like us to strengthen also (have said this many times) but the way some go off is like we are in the bottom four and if we don't get someone this minute the arse will fall out of the known world.

Patience is needed. There I both a loan and another transfer window. Problem for us is we actually know so little as to what is going on. This leads some to believe it's all shit. That is their want. But in reality we have time and there are players available to loan if we need to.

It's not even the end of the search for a centre-back, or a midfielder. That's what makes this latest ludicrous over-reaction so silly. It's very simple. Nigel wants Burn and Hammond. They are his choices. Not any old midfielder and centre-back to appease the Deadline Day Devotees. Those two. Specific people, not shirt-fillers. We've not been able to get them, yet. The pursuit will go on. If we reach a dead-end, and I think NA and MB might be the best judges of that, then we'll move on. The DDDs are either incapable of, or much more likely, unwilling to, understand that simple analysis. They prefer a Machiavellian plot with Big Jim as Dr. Evil and KM as his cat, conspiring to keep our club in Division Three, which, for some unknowable reason, somehow suits their master plan.

What utter juvenile bollocks. It's the Bladesfans' Way....

Deadline Day Devotees :D

All paraphrased from Phippsy's twitter. i have no reason to make things up

I don't think Jim has or does either, mate. He's as ambitious as any Blades fan. He has better things to do than make up bogus transfers.

i think the point here is PeteBlade has got a lot of previous of showing outrage about anything and everything, certainly from my recollections of BU. I'm not entirely surprised that he is throwing his toys out of the pram in all directions on this occasion.

I can be a negative fucker at the best of times, but I'm glad that we haven't signed anyone on deadline day. The vast majority of deadline day transfers are panic buys at vastly inflated prices. The only people who ever seem to profit on deadline day are the agents rather than anyone else.

Looking at the hard evidence, we are currently 2nd with 12 points from 5 games and are building momentum whilst still settling in to a new style of play under a new manager with the current squad of players. There are still alarm bells ringing after the horrendous 4-0 opening day reverse at Gillingham, and there is no doubt that the squad does need some reinforcements, but the one thing we do have time to play with is time, and i think the money is there to bring in the right reinforcements as and when they become available.

In a couple of weeks it is not entirely unfeasible that we will be occupying top spot with 18 points from 7 games, without making any more signings as our next two home games are Colchester and Bury who I think we should beat on current form.

Actually sunbeam, back on BladesUnited (which hasn't been around for god knows how long so I'm touched to still be close to your heart) I was the clappiest of clappers.

Spent most of my time defending this fine football club against the likes of Len and his regular rantings, so you're very much mistaken in the above.

I've certainly become more cynical in the FIVE long years we've been in this awful decision getting beaten by teams who we're plying their trade in non league not so long ago.

So I have certsinly become more negative, the way this club has been run will do that to you, but kick off at every opportunity? No, that's not me.

I feel we have the best manager in the league and have never had a better chance of achieving top two.

I just hope we don't squander the opportunity. Again.

Never has a person saying they are disappointed at not signing much needed centre backs been met with such a hysterical response.

Deep down, you probably even agree with me.

Ce la vie.

I never suggested that he made up bogus transfers, not sure where you get that from.

I simply paraphrased what Jim had tweeted, if anything he is very good at contradicting himself to put a positive spin on things....

C'est la vie. (Sorry, French grammar nazis )

Not only does Nigel think so , he's identified exactly who he wants. Dean Hammond and Dan Burn. Two players of high calibre at this level. Their clubs are not willing to let them go - yet.

What should we have done? What should we do now?

Good things come to those who wait .
