Kevin Blackwell has refused to concede that a play-off place is definitely out of reach despite the blow of an unlucky defeat at Preston.

The loss left the Blades in 13th place, eight points behind Wolves, but with four home games to play in the final six matches United will go all out to end the season with a bang.

The United manager said: "We all have so much to play for, for the fans and ourselves, because we are playing for the future. Results all season have shown that places are up for grabs and we will not give up until we can't catch the teams in the play-off spots."

That intent was demonstrated at Deepdale when James Beattie was thrown on in place of Gary Naysmith and formed a triple strike force with Rob Hulse and Billy Sharp in a bid to get back on terms:

"We weren't just going to sit back, we have to play a risky game because only wins can keep alive any chance of going up. In situations like that we need important decisions to go for us but unfortunately they didn't."

The imbalance of fixtures now leave United with two successive home games, against Leicester on Saturday and Sheffield Wednesday three days later.
