bl**dy hell.. didn't realise they had so many household names.. messi, xavi, iniesta.. oops wrong page.. you said it yourself Olle.. 'when they beat us and we had monty and doyle in midfield'.. we're a different propostion with KMac and a fully firing Willo. i rest my case

I don't think anyone is really making Stevenage out to be Barcelona or any other such illustrious side, although that doesn't mean they won't be a difficult proposition.

Most people's nervousness centres around the frame of mind of our own side. I think Ollie is right in that if Wednesday do fail to beat Brentford there will be a much less fraught atmosphere at Bramall Lane. However, I don't think Brentford's home record is spectacular and I think Wednesday are likely to beat them. In which case we need to be in the right frame of mind (our supporters as well as the side) as much as anything.

Brentford have lost once at home this year, to us.

But they've lost 6 at home in all, and have a total of 36 home points in all, which as I said is not spectacular. I hope Brentford do us a favour, but I feel Wednesday are in better form than them and and are likely to prove too strong for them. Just as last week's events had a detrimental affect on our performance at MK Dons, they probably gave Wednesday a lift.

I think the state of mind of both team and supporters will be very important factors in deciding who gets that last automatic promotion place.

>A lot of people are poo poo-ing Stevenage
my actual intention was to prevent wrist slitting as a mass event actually :D

Chances are Slew and Agyemang will score just so the shit really hits the fan.

I doubt Slew will start and if he does feature it will be last 10. Slew started with us quite brightly but lack of goals or even opportunities and Agy coming on strong has kept from starting.

Agymangs record is shite to say the least but has got his confidence back in abundance and looks a real prospect (and so it should on £15k a week paid for by QPR of of course)

Goals, if any will come from Freeman, Bostwick or Reid possably Laird.

Quick effective 1 touch football will undo us but if we sucker you in to long ball, we will soak it up all day.

Since Smiths appointment we have gone less direct and started playing more football. It took a good month for this to come to fruition and recent form speaks for its self.

We have be drawn into the long ball game once or twice this season.

Wednesday have not done brilliantly recently against the teams in and around the play offs - the draw at Colchester and a scraped late win at home to Carlisle. I think any neutral would back Brentford to get a point at least from this game. However, us United fans always think the worse :-(

If Wendy don't win and we score a last minute winner I'm going to throw away my medication once and for all.

:)

Cheers for the info Dan, enjoy your trip to Sheffield. Good luck in the play offs v the pigs!

I think you've got that wrong. Their recent form against teams in and around the play offs is a win at Notts County, a win at Huddersfield, a draw at Colchester and a win at home to Carlisle. That strikes me as a pretty good return.

With regard to the late winner agianst Carlisle, a win is a win no matter when the goal is scored.

Yes, but it shows signs of nerves....

Come on, help me here :-)

I wish I could! But I actually think it shows their good form and lack of nreves. They seem to grind out a win by pure determination.

I think we have to forget about Wednesday and assume that they will win their last two games. To go up automatically we have to do it ourselves and not rely on others.

How about they are due a defeat....

I don't assume it. The Pigs will not beat Brentford; nor would the Pig fans concede a win for us anything like as readily as some of you white flag wavers. How odd that Brentford away is a piece of cake, but Stevenage at home is laced with hemlock.

This insidious negativity will feed on itself and pervade The Lane on Saturday if we're not careful. Stop it! Now!

I haven't posted anything either negative or positive about our chances against Stevenage. I have just posted a view that I think Wednesday will win and we will therefore also have to win, and that in order for us to do so it is probably very important that the team and supporters are in the right frame of mind.

I say the Pigs won't beat Brentford but whether they do or not we should back our team like never before on Saturday. "I haven't posted anything negative or positive about our chances against Stevenage" coupled with a character reference for the Pigs, is less than encouraging!

If pointing out that we need to do the business ourselves and can't rely on others to do it for us is negative, I must speak a different language to you!

All your posts on this thread are (express and implied) in praise of a workmanlike but mediocre Pigs team, with the usual diffident pessimism of a "Blade" when it comes to your own team. I hope you offer them a little more encouragement on Saturday, or is that not the Blades Way?

I'm sorry if I appear to be singling you out. That is not my intention. I could just as easily have selected Bladesman's "Extracts from Ode to Joy"

Some of you are a miserable bunch of defeatists. Smile and join in the fun!. You might just enjoy it.

The Blades are Going Up!!!!

To be honest, Wednesdays have been on an excellent run of form. However, as long as we concentrate on winning our last two, then we should forget about them - that's out of our control. Them losing/drawing on Saturday would be a bonus, not a necessity.

Quite,

I personally find it highly amiusing that they could still end up third despite winning something like 9 of teh last 11 games of the season...

I think I'm right in saying that the record points total achieved by a club who did not end up being promoted is 90 by Sunderland in the first division in 1998. I suspect us or the Pigs will achieve that this year. Sadly, that sounds like the sort of record United would own.

Indeed, if the situations were reversed and we hadn't lost since Feb (or whenever it was) and we were facing Brentford away, everyone on here would be doom and gloom on the basis that we are "due a defeat", "Brentford away is a very tough game" "even if we beat Brentford, Wednesday will turn over Stevenage and Exeter" etc etc

That is nonsense. Brentford are 8th and Wednesday are 3rd, Wednesday are on a fantastic run and Brentford have lost 2 on the bounce, the Pigs have something to play for and they do not. This has away win written all over it. Only a red and white spectacle wearing fool would expect any result for Brentford.

Have it your own way. I suppose one and one is five, the grass is blue and the sky green.

I pretty much agree with that. We should not bank on anyone else to do us a favour, and given Wednesday's form and the fact that Brentford have an unspectacular home record, we should forget about them. We need to win our own matches.

Bloody hell, you are unnecessarily provocative.

Brentford still have an outside chance of the play offs so they do have something to play for and Wednesday failed to win at Colchester who did indeed have nothing to play for. This has a draw written all over it and only a typically manic depressive United fan would not see that.
