See post #82
Cannon signed by the board. I think that's fairly well established.
I think k it was Stephen Bettis who said about the board signing Cannon in his recent interview and others gave said the same on here.It really isn’t.
As posted, and still available, on the club website:-
Wilder says Cannon is someone he's tracked for a while and is a signing which ticked all the boxes with everyone involved in the process.
Wilder said: "It's a super signing for us. Somebody we have tracked for a long time and known about for a long time. He's a young hungry player, position specific, we needed someone who could play on the shoulder and stretch the game, which he does. As soon as we talked about our enthusiasm to get this done, speaking to the boy, he knows what we're all about, and he played here for Stoke earlier in the season. He knows the club are ambitious and I thank the board and the co-chairmen for the backing and support, not just with this signing, but the whole process of what we've been going through and how they've wanted to support me during the window. We're all on the same page with this signing. Great age, we believe he'll play a big part and hopefully a successful second part of this season and beyond as well."

Wilder on Cannon signing
Blades boss Chris Wilder believes new signing Tom Cannon has all the attributes to be a big hit at Bramall Lane.www.sufc.co.uk
Been quoted, and referred to, many times on here.
I think k it was Stephen Bettis who said about the board signing Cannon in his recent interview and others gave said the same on here.
On Wilder's comments, would you expect him to say "he's not my signing but the boards"!? Or would you expect him to say what he has said to a new board who thought he was a good signing based on data?
One day the truth will come out I'm sure. I could be wrong but your statement proves nothing to me.
Wilder and Bettis piss in the same pot, they both watch each others words, of course it was Wilder who wanted him, of course the board sanctioned it.I think k it was Stephen Bettis who said about the board signing Cannon in his recent interview and others gave said the same on here.

Even if you're right, which I'm not convinced on, Wilder has signed some good players for larger money as I mentioned on another post.Let’s take another look at your post in late December
Cannon was a Wilder target that Summer he wanted him towards the window end - Prince had nowt left
It was Wilder who then ( with striker injuries taking priority over centre half worries) wanted Cannon so the new owners backed him in January
Every signing is backed by the board ffs
This again is a Wilder target that the board then backed him with
Your post is yet another poor attempt at diverting the truth - hes shyte with money
Ps - everything I have stated above was in local press national and on social media even Cannon stating that when Stoke Boro and United enquired for him on loan in the summer he would have chosen us but we had to withdraw interest
Ive been going nearly 60 yrs to the lane, I know I'm getting on a bit now but I've never felt like I didn't want to go to the match like I have for the last couple of yrs. It's boring me to death. So you are saying that sone of our 'best' fans, might decide they can't be arsed to come?
I know things were different in the 80s with hooliganism and supporting a football team being about as popular as telling people that you had AIDs", but some of us stuck with it. Attendances were regularly well under 10k (under both McEwan and Bassett), but funnily enough, some of us carried on supporting the team we love.
Maybe losing a few thousand lightweights, might not actually be the end of the world as we know it?
Just sayin' like, innit.
"Not intended to trivialise AIDs, before any Cancel Warriors get involved. The government sponsored 'ftighten the shit out of you' campaigns about AIDS, were a massive 80s cultural phenomenon, in the same way that footy most certainly wasn't..
Oior Jordan Ayew, who is allegedly 35, but moves like he's just hit 60.
Neal Maupay is the striker from BrentfordFor those interested in the comment I'm referring to by Bettis, you can listen to it yourself on 12.26 seconds into Bettis' recent interview.

Sheffield United - Sheffield United CEO Stephen Bettis answers your questions - BBC Sounds
The Blades Chief Exec spent an hour in the studio, addressing supporterswww.bbc.co.uk
Note Bettis doesn't say "They backed Chris in signing Cannon" but rather "they (the board) signed Tom Cannon".
I appreciate this isn't full proof of the board signing Cannon and I'm not saying Wilder hasnt had some interest previously because it's likely Wilder had tracked Cannon as a player in the same way Wilder tracks several players but I'm not convinced Wilder wanted Cannon as his choice of striker.
Irrespective, when fans say Wilder is crap with money is a harsh statement because signing Brewster, McBurnie, Mousset, Berge, and Freeman is hardly big money signings in terms of wages of what Aston Villa as a comparison were able to spend which is why they pipped us in Marry Cash and Oli Watkins and before that Brighton with the French striker from Brentford who's name escapes me, sorry.
I would also say re Mousset that he paid off his transfer fee given his first seasons success. Same for Berge and McBurnie given they were essential to promotion under Hecky
John Egan at £3.5m I think it was, which was a fair chunk then on the Championship didn't work out too bad also! If you look at the wage bill of United in the PL under Wilder Im fairly sure we had a bottom three budget still. We didnt spend like what Hull, Forest, and Sunderland have done for example in wages or transfer fees.
I accept Brewster was a disaster! I blame Swansea for making Brewster looking great on loan there!![]()

Not at the same time I hope. Bloody tail touchers.Wilder and Bettis piss in the same pot
If you did say more Wilder's PR man wouldn't listenNot much more I can say then![]()
