If the choice is having two capable starting keepers or having another really good outfield player then I bet 99.9% of managers and fans alike would choose the outfielder. Davies is perfectly fine for what we need, we had this same conversation last season.

The main point I was trying, (and obviously failing to do so) was to get across that Davies doesn't offer any competition to Cooper whatsoever. Yes he may be adequate cover, but personally I think he offers nothing in terms of competition and is a very poor alternative.

Hes not here to put pressure on Cooper hes been signed specifically to be a No 2 if Cooper gets injured
Theres no way hes good enough to put pressure on a fully fit Cooper
If you want a keeper to put pressure on Cooper you will more than likely be spending around £!m and the wages that go with that. Faxon needs games to see if he can step up

I think I posted this somewhere else but it would be interesting to know if we loaned Faxon out knowing he’d be number two. It’s unusual sending keepers on long term loans to not play, he could be doing the same with us and be around higher quality coaches and facilities.

If Boston made commitments and didn’t keep them hopefully we’re able to bring him back in January and place him elsewhere.

Chadwick is only a couple of years older than Faxon and signed for them near the end of last season. Think he maybe started one or two games before this season. Think he’d been playing lower down the pyramid. Looks to me like they got two young keepers in, and said the shirt is up for grabs for either of them. Chadwick got it, and did OK - then it’s a big call to drop the keeper and put in someone who’s never had a senior appearance.
