Isn't this what we thought about so many other former players that we brought back?

I cant think of any that we brought back who showed as much effort and desire the first time we had them as those 2 though. Cant see Brown not getting stuck in and Stead dived head first into a goal post for us

Leigh Griffiths at Hibernian on loan from Wolves.

His contract expires in the summer although Wolves have the option to extend it.

I would get Stuart McCall appointed now and get him targeting this guy. Meant to be a reyt striker. Maybe if Wolves had played him last season he could've kept them up.

raul will be able to back me on this I imagine??

Given that he tore it up for Hibs last season (at a level roughly analogous to League 1) I would suspect Wolves will have him in there side.

In fact, an Aberdeen fan of my acquaintance advised I put a tenner on him being top scorer next season!

Its a sign of the times that we could field 11 ex blades, all still playing football, that would probably push the top half of the premiership.

Kenny
Walker - Jagielka - Cahill - Naughton
Lowton - Brown - Britton - Dyer
Sharp - Blackman

For every negative there's gotta be a positive??

Surely we could pick players lower down the ladder that we've let go?

Danny Cadermarteri etc.

Can we do that team too? I don't mean old and past it i.e. Beattie, i mean just shit players

Yeah, i imagine Wolves will extend, but.. If a club came in for him now he has a decision to make and could choose to stick two fingers up at Wolves.

I already thought that about top scorer. You've now confirmed it for me

Cadamateri would have been great if he could shoot. He could go past players for fun but he couldn't finish a bag of crisps.

We've had a selection of players over the last 10 years that have gone on to bigger and better things whilst the club as a whole has drifted slowly backwards. We'd probably have been celebrating a cup win and been on a European tour had we built around those names over the coarse of the last decade rather than flog them on.

All ifs, buts, and maybes but my point is we've not failed through not having good players at the club.

He's one of our own........

I've deliberately never brought him up because I think he has his heart set on staying at ER and wants to see out his WW contract on loan up there. He'll go back to Wolves if recalled which is my biggest fear but if Wolves want to sell we won't be able to afford him anyway.

Best case scenario - another year playing for Hibs
Worst case scenario - getting 25 for Wolves

I don't dispute your point in many ways, but Cresswell dived into a post for us, but it wasnt enough :)

I'd take brown back but I'd be cautious of Stead, I don't think he's the style of player we need. Although presuming Kitson leaves this summer (probably for the USA) then we'll need strikers that get goals but also offer mobility.... In which case stead could fit that bill.

But, whomever we bring in, they need to want to play for Sheff Utd and not just be brought back because they played for us before.

This thing about players having played for us before is getting a bit annoying. Yes he played for us before, does that mean we shouldn't suggest him.

No, but:
1. We are allowed to consider other players as well.
2. It appears, on occasion, to become rather obsessive. I could easily find that 'a bit annoying'.
3. For some fans, our ex-players just get better and better, the longer they are gone.
4. Brown is now a shadow of himself. He's a slow, immobile, cynical clogger who no longer scores goals.
5.Stead has played one position more than any other in his carrier: substitute. We should not pretend he is something he is not.

I just read that Stuart McCall is resigned to losing Nicky Law! Yeah the same Nicky law that played for us I the premier league. Rumours are that he's headed to Birmingham.

Didn't realise he was still plying his trade!

Lets sign him too ;)

I started this thread having just found out stead was available, I'm aware he's ex-blade (quite liked him first time around), but Just throwing names into the mix. Will probably throw other names into the forum,as and when they come available. That is, unless other blades post them first. UTB.

If we could afford him why not, better than the shit playing at the moment. What players would you like to see Swiss, taking into account wages/transfer fees if any.

I'll readily admit I don't know that many players at this level, but I liked the look of the lad freeman at Stevenage last season and Forrester at Brentford impressed when we played then at their place.

I'm all for bringing in hungry, young, pacey and exciting players, just not because they used to play for us.

A few years ago Stead was a good shout, but haven't seen him lately to comment

Good call's, would like to think they would come, playing in front of 10/15k every other week rather 4/5k,must be a plus.

I always liked stead as well.
Is he past his sell by date? Who knows!

yeh I'd probably take stead back, but we need to get rid of porter, kitson and others first

Good player. When Hulse broke his leg, it ruined what could have been a beautiful strike partnership with Stead. Was just starting to really blossom. Can't help but think he would get 20 goals in this shithead league.

The reason people link ex players is because

We are shit and they are good

Fans foolishly believe that players have an affinity with the clubs they play at so wrongly assume that players who enjoyed a good spell here would come back for slightly less money than they could earn anywhere else

We are shit and have zero chance of signing anyone decent unless it is by accident and they are so determined and focussed to succeed they are using us as a stepping stone knowing they will be sold at the first sign of any outside interest

We are shit and football supporters drink a lot of alcohol which causes nostalgic thoughts , without these two things football stadiums across the world would be empty

Cahill can't be counted as an ex-blade as he was only a loanee but unusually for us a successful one.

I liked him when he was with us last time. Getting on a bit but think he'd be an asset as long as we played it into his feet (which we probably won't)

I'd take Stead back but only on a 1 yr deal due to him being 30, got to be better than Porter and Kitson.
