Staying sane between now and the end of the season.

It's become so painful to watch us this season that I am in need of therapy.

Not really. but the thought of watching us lose 1-0 every week til the end of the season and ending up on the record number of low points is depressing.

So i've decided for this weekend that i'm not watching the Palace game live. I will avoid it and then check the result. If we draw or somehow fluke a win, then
I can watch the highlights. But I just can't put myself through 90 minutes of abject, pathetic football again.

Call me a fairweather fan, but there is no enjoyment in watching the slowest car crash in premier league history.

Any other ways to stay sane? Predicting which minute we will let in the 1 goal that will beat us?
Counting the number of sideways and backwards passes we do when needing a goal?

Guessing the number of times we give stupid away freekicks to take the pressure off the opposition?
It makes no difference whether you watch it live or not...nobody is a bigger fan just because they watch games on tv, you could dip into the radio while doing other things.

Before lockdown, before our recent poor performances, I'd always been very intrigued & interested in what being a fan, a supporter, a follower means to different people. (I even tried to write about it a bit for Dem Blades). Lockdown & Behind Closed Doors has brought my own fandom into sharp focus. And, partly, I don't like what I see in the mirror. The best way to describe it is - I've realised I'm not a Sheffield United Fan, I'm a Fan of going to watch Sheffield United play. I get a lot of enjoyment in going to games (particularly away games). Meeting people, particularly new people. Meeting opposition fans. Finding new pubs, new breweries. Ticking off new grounds. Seeing new places (pre season is superb for me). Watching my team play, big high if they win. Very level if they lose...on to next week. Lockdown has made me realise I've been selfishly using United as a structure around which I can have a good time. As someone who self identifies as a student of terrace culture, that's come as a bit of an eye opener to me. Football fans eh......
Love this...it’s all about the build up, the anticipation, the sights etc. Tv football just used to be a case of, ok, I’ll watch as we’re away or can’t make it to bdtbl.

The Bigger Blades told me I wasn't allowed to do that last night. No adequate reasoning why I shouldn't, just that it's not very Bladey. Apparently.
Do it, started last night

No, you're right - it's hardly the same as parting with your own money at the turnstile and being in the stadium. You can't really support a team from the comfort of your own armchair. You can cheer them on all you want but it doesn't make a blind bit of difference if you're 3 or 3000 miles from the pitch.

I said it to my old man the other week I feel like merely a follower of the club at the moment, not a fan. Fair play to anyone that keeps it up every week as the enthusiasm is certainly draining from me.
Yeah, not sure where arm chair fans get their enthusiasm from

Lump on other team to win. Keep rolling it over as we lose every week. Find out just how much you love the club by seeing at what point you start to feel conflicted about the result

Never usually bet on our games other than 1st goalscorer but have to admit I had 100 quid on Leicester... The odds were better than evens it was just too tempting.. Still felt gutted when vardy scored

I got up to 100 on the Brighton game, not too proud to say that's about the level which I'm sort of happy either way (fuck the draw, that helped nobody).

Agreed. I blame Giddings.

Holton, Roberts, Carter, Spinney K., Tapwell, Mason, Manningham, Bailey, Borthwell, Dobkins, O'Grady.

Was it Paul O’Grady?
Could do with him now for our powder puff midfield.
