Not a surprising result last night but it was a suprising performance. Almost as though the players were in awe of the opposition and occasion.

I can't help thinking the Stanley Park morning session was a big mistake. The little dog peeing on the cone was funny but really?

Hardly we are a top side and we are coming for you, was it? We've worked hard all year to reject the pub team stereotype. ..

Whoever came up with that brainwave?
I doubt that we will be meeting that little dog again next year (hopefully).

Yeah, if we hadn't trained in the park, everything would have been ok.

Strangest of strange posts.

The morning of every night game will have a little session to loosen the legs and relax the players, doing it in a public park won't have affected the way we played.

Walking out into the tunnel and seeing the likes of VVD, Salah, Mane etc might have a bigger impact...

Maybe after the Christmas fixtures we should have hit the gym, done some set piece work and put in a good 3 hours of formation, all behind closed doors and in silence.

Clutching at straws.

How many threads and how many posts over how many days are we going to be talking about how 'crap' we were against the world champions.

There's probably been more comments about our poor performance last night than those made when we put in more than commendable performances against Brighton and Norwich.

It's over, it's gone. Let's get over it and move on to the rest of the season.

One final point, Chris Wilder was very grateful to the travelling support last night on his Radio Sheffield interview. True Blades at Anfield. Thanks.

Mate I know we’re all disappointed but this is pretty ridiculous

I normally agree with you Swiss, but I have to say I was worried about how much of this type of media stuff was happening prior to the game. BT Sport did a segment on Lunny and JOC and how playing at Anfield was a dream come true. Taking a few of these isolated pieces as a whole, it reeked of us turning up for a day out. Like little Sheffield United has won a competition to play at the mighty Liverpool. Then, you might argue, the game panned out exactly that way.

If we matched their effort and work rate, their class and quality still beats us 99/100. If we matched their effort and work rate...

We would've probably lost either way, but training in Stanley Park does come across very small time, like a lower league club in the FA Cup enjoying their day out at the mighty Liverpool.

Did they actually train, or just have a wander around and a go on the swings and slide? Was there one of those old Wicksteed rocking horses? They were ace.

I think it was an attempt to be like

"Look, that's Anfield, you'll be playing the European and world champions there tonight, but it's the same game we're playing on this park covered in dog shit and crisp packets. Don't forget that."

Didn't work, but there's no point reading too much into it.

I also read that Norwich did the same, that didn't work either (although they gave them a game).

As someone who's done sport to a (very) high level - it's perfectly normal. Every time I'd have a night time race, but do a full race warm up the night before. If you're in a city you don't know, then you use any facilities you can... I've regularly warmed up in car parks and school fields...

Nah mate. You've (and most others have gotten this arse about tit)...

It's our third tough game in a week. Even in the Championship we didn't have x3 games with this intensity in seven days so there was always going to be a drop off in the third game. Makes no difference whether we'd warmed up in Anfield itself - the only think that could have made a difference was warming up in Lance Armstrong's trailer and hitting the EPO. Our boys were shattered. A step too far. Tufty knows this, and I'm sure next season we'll have a deeper squad enabling him to rotate...

That's the big takeaway for me from last night.

Or dogging as the judge called it when he said he didn’t accept my case for the defence 🙂

I'm sure this a wind up but i'll indulge it.

Its a bit of a run around to stretch the legs and get the players warmed up for the evening. Unless one of the players fell onto a used syringe then it will have had little effect on the performance.

If Wilder starts giving serious consideration to moving first team training to Graves Park then its probably reasonable to raise an eyebrow, until then I wouldn't worry.

There wasn't anything wrong with the workrate or effort, we spent all night running after the ball.

You listen to a lot of old pros and they tell you that back in the day you’d lost before you even got on the pitch at places like Anfield and Old Trafford. I think it’s now similar again. It’s a bit more off putting than a pink changing room, making the manager walk from his car or not paying the electricity bill.

They didn't, they got battered 4-1.

Yeah, but they were a threat going forward, gave Liverpool something to think about like we did at Bramall Lane.

They can't defend for a toffee though.

🎼 Were Sheffield United , we`ll train where we want ! 🎼
