My Man City mate was saying we should never move from our home of Maine Road ,sounds a lot like blades are saying now, keep our identity, we don't want a billionaire owner etc etc.
He's NOT saying it now. One of the biggest teams in the world and laughing at their neighbours.
I'll have some of that thanks.

Billionaire owner with a bigger Bramall Lane is fine.

10 Bob millionaire owner with a bigger keepmoat in the championship not so much

Only way I’d be ok with a new stadium is if we built it on the site we have. Have to move to Rotherham for a season mind.
Best case scenario I think this! Keeps the nostalgia but adds modern class to it, I’d also rotate the pitch so it wasn’t so tight to Bramall Lane and John Street. Not sure where we’d move to temporarily though as Rotherham’s holds 12k we sell well over 20k season tickets.

We can borrow the 974 stadium from here in Qatar. They're currently dismantling it now. Its like a pop up stadium. 40,000+ all seater.

Was at tottenham on Saturday thinking how nice and modern the stadium is, I've come to the conclusion that we should bin off any development of the lane and just build a shiny new stadium, on the big space of land in birley for example.

Just incase any sheiks that are actually rich are reading this thinking about buying us.
In case any sheiks or other potentially rich people are thinking about buying us, 99% us would like to stay at Bramall lane thank you very much.

Update it and improve it, yes. But move away from it. Never.

That bit the tram goes past just after the pub that does carvery, I'll show you on minecraft when the kids come off the xbox.
I assume you mean the fairways pub, if so the land you mean is mostly Birley golf course the bit at the end is a farmers field with tram tracks going through it.

Was there ever any official club statement on if and when the stadium expansion plan approval would happen? And when any approved development would be completed?

Still a big fan of these plans. I think they'd give us pretty much everything we could ever reasonablt need.

Wonder how much it would cost to implement today?

It's always the older generation, mine, who want to stay at the lane, fair enough, but it wouldn't take long for the younger generation to not care too much and think about the future.

Spurs and Arsenal effectively moved across the road and that has helped keep their identity and also they built space age unique stadiums.

If we moved we’d be stuck out at Waverley or somewhere else in the middle of nowhere in a sub Leicester / Southampton identikit stadium.

I will keep unique edge of the City Centre Bramall Lane thanks

But then when it goes tits up,they are left playing in a soulless half empty bowl..not for me,can't beat the Lane, old school and city centre location.

When's it going to go tits up?
I'm 'old school ' but I want to see my team winning things , competing at the top level and I'd fuckin love a billionaire owner talking us over and upgrading the lane,

I can't say I particularly give a shit about the posts either, although I've never sat in a seat obscured by them.

I don't care how shiny, expensive and modern a new stadium would be, I would be devastated if we moved away from the lane to one of these soulless concrete bowls! BDTBL is part of our heritage and history, it is regularly featured in the top match day experiences in the UK. If we ever were to move, I feel I would have to stop following the blades, as we wouldn't be us anymore.
If the club moves what is left of 'the club'. Obviously managers and players change. The only ongoing thing that is the club is the ground.
I don't get the need for some people to have these huge developments.

I don't want that at all. Ooh great spend billions to virtually guarantee a win every week, sound really exciting.

Tram serves it so that would be a bonus, can't imagine the golfers would be too bothered if the course went as they must know its a crap sport anyway.

I think just about every club has got these plans and keeps extending the planning permission as a selling point for when they decide to cash-in.

Who the fuck is talking about winning everything? I want to see us competing, going to a game with high expectations, if that's not for you then fine, but if you want what we've had for the last million years fine, however if you don't fancy a rich owner trying to take us to a higher level how would you react if you heard Wednesday had been taken over by a billionaire?
"Not for me, I want more of what we are used to, let them be successful with a big modern stadium with big crowds lauding it over us"
Fuck that

Yes,I don't mind all that, but I'd hate us to move from the Lane.
Aren't City under investigation still?..Maybe it could go tits up for them down the line.

The Prince has publicly said if we stay up the posts are getting removed. That's it. Until a takeover nothing much else will happen I suspect
You can't just remove the posts, they're holding the roof up,it would need major redevelopment ie a cantilever, so don't hold your breath

It’s not the £15m that bothers me, but where would we sit whilst they did it?
I'd love to have a nice, modern, covered concourse, but not at the expense of investment in the playing squad, the training facilities, or calling in a hit on the Shirecliffe Sniper.

The last set of Kop expansion plans that still have current planning permission addresses both your issues.

The Kop would take just 18 months (2 summers + 1 season) to put another 3,200 seats on the back of the Kop
….increasing working capacity to over 34K. Whilst building works take place almost all the Kop remains open….so hardly anyone affected.

Also the concourse will be expanded and fully enclosed with modern and expanded toilets, bars and kiosks.
And the final advantage is the cost….much much cheaper that clearing a site and building a whole new stand. Its not just the cost of the stand, it’s the lost match ticket revenue over 2 seasons and inconvenience to regular fans who are told they can’t attend home matches for 2 years.

The risk is once fans are forced to break the habit and find something else to do….they might not automatically return to watching the Blades.

Also we don’t need any space under the Kop. We already have decent conference, banqueting facilities
but if we wish to expand then it’s logical to put the additional (under the seating) facilities in the South stand.

I said the same as you a few week back however someone explained they could implement a frame, like a giant goalpost, from 1 end of the Kop to the other.
Apparently other clubs (think someone mentioned Norwich) have used the same design to hold up a roof and it works.
