Correct, but it doesn't mean that his disposable income is any more than John Smith for example. 30% deferral or cut or whatever would affect most footballers.

I have a question.

Is a pay deferral the same as a temporary pay cut?
or is it just pay me slightly less now but I want the shortfall in pay paid in full eventually.

There a massive difference between an agreed delayed salary payment and a temporary pay cut.

Everyone else who is unable to work due to the virus is paid 80% of their wage on the government scheme
so logic suggest that all footballers should have an automatic 20% pay cut like the rest of the working population who are unable to perform their duties.

Because the coaches and players have accepted a deferral of part of their wages the club is expecting to have the cash to pay all their lower earners in full.

If you ask me that's a pretty decent gesture.

Deferral means that they don't get paid all of the money in their next pay packet, but they will get it all eventually. So if someone was going to get paid £100,000 this month they might get £90,000, and will be paid the remaining £10,000 at a later date. It's not a pay cut.

He gets paid more than us because we choose to pay to watch him work; I doubt whether he would be interested in forking out to watch us work...

Who's asked why he gets paid more than "us"? If he gets a million quid a week then well done to him, not many would turn that down for kicking a bag of wind around. The point being people being over protective of players for taking a 10% DEFERRAL.

I see no reason whatsoever why they or the managers should take a pay cut (or deferral ie you’ll get it later). Why footballers, yes they are overpaid but so are bankers politicians, fund managers, et al. Why pick on footballers?

Its not much of a sacrifice then....and something that most people could easily cope with.

because at the moment footballers are unable to do their normal job that they are paid to do
whereas I suppose politicians, fund managers can all continue to work doing their normal job from home

It’s a small loan that the players are giving the club....but they get it all back and won’t lose any income.
it’s a nice gesture but every one else who is unable to do their job receives a 20% pay cut (lost of income) not a 10% deferral (no loss of income).
