Squad reshape this summer

That squad is utterly depressing and devoid of any quality, creatively, athleticism and guile…

add to that we’re skint, and the rules will leave us massively disadvantaged in bringing anyone in means we’ll probably have another depressing mid table finish again.

Have you tried thumping your chest? That's all we're left with now.

Wow, lucky you to have been given the privilege of seeing the clubs accounts and bank balances.

I don’t see how the board would wilfully sabotage their investment.

What I would say it is, it’s borderline incompetence from a group of people who are supposed to be smart business people.

Maybe they thought they’d just quick flip the investment and come out in front when we got promoted? It’s like lumping on an odds on favourite with the horses. Three lengths in front in the final furlong then it drops anchor.

Now here we are…

I didn't mean intentional sabotage ...
But that's the clumsy result of their incompetence.

I completely agree with your take on their intentions - we were a "quick-flip" opportunity which has now gone wrong.

In a macabre way , it'll be interesting to see how they "get out".
Or maybe they'll stay ,
And plant peanuts or cotton at Dore.
Until they find that it should have been potatoes.
It really is that level of farce.

Whilst a lot of us have been enjoying the schadenfreude at the pigsty ,
dem Blades have crept closer to the edge.
Can they avoid the abyss ?
Don't miss next season's exciting episode of ...
'In and Outta the Premier League - Twice !'

Still got loads of players, haven’t we?

G (4): Cooper, Davies, Grbic, Faxon

RB (5): Seriki, Shackleton, Curtis, Sachdev, Polendakov

LB (5): McCallum, Burrows, Norrington-Davies, Buyabu, McGlinchey

CB (5): Tanganga, McGuinness, Baptiste, Sasnauskas, Zatterstrom

M (9): Arblaster, Hamer, O’Hare, Brooks, Chong, Matos, Peck, Rothwell, Ukaki

CF (6): Bamford, Campbell, Cannon, Marsh, Oné, Nwachukwu

That’s 34. Way too many

Could we get away with just loans this year? The odd irresistible free thrown in?

We’ll look to offload Grbic on loan or perm. Faxon also needs to go and play and the young lad Betts needs to play U21s regularly. That’s -1

I would say none of the right backs are up to supporting Seriki so either continue their education on loan or move on. I see Polendakov leaving and Curtis and Sachdev on loan. We’ll be stuck with Shackleton. Depending on formation Walker is obviously in a central defensive 3 or right back. That’s -3 and +1.

I don’t see any change at left back and I can see RND moved on, as well as Buyabu. That’s -2.

We have 5 centre backs and question marks on them all. Maybe Sasnauskas gets brought into the squad but I can see the other two younger ones pushed out the door. McGuinness we may be stuck with but we need a new first choice. Maybe we get Souttar on loan and pair him with Tanganga and have McGuiness and Sasnauskas as back ups? That’s -2 and +1.

So down from 34 to 28 as we move to midfield.

Hamer will leave. We’ll push Matos out the door too. We’ll be stuck with Chong. I’d be amazed if Ukaki isn’t pushed out too. Can see one of Peck or Brooks leaving but not both. I can then see Phillips on loan or Choudhury on loan if that fails. That’s -4 +1.

Squad down to 25 now with one free and 2 loans.

Up front we might cash in on Campbell but eventually realise it’s not worth it and we will be stuck with Cannon. Nwachukwu won’t be here come end of August. So that’s down to 24, possibly 23. Expect then another loan striker if Campbell goes otherwise Oné playing more and potentially a loan winger.

Take us to 25 with one free and three or four loans depending on the fate of Campbell. Expect us to try something decisive like Jamie Vardy for a year though he won’t come.

That’s my prediction.
Good post and I think your more or less on the money - there won’t be any permanent signings without players going out of the door first.

Still need to transfer list some wonderful players to some lucky clubs..

Grbic
McGuinness
Zatterstrom
RND
Shackleton
Matos
Chong
Ukaku
Nwachukwu
Cannon
Chong was excellent v Derby and you hope we’ve got a decent player that took a bit of time to settle.
Hopefully QPR come back for RND.
We will persevere with Cannon unless someone takes a punt with a loan…Stoke maybe?
Mcguiness you would imagine on subs bench and cup games.
Can’t even remember what Shackleton looks like never mind what potential he’s got🫤
Not privy to our players salaries but I can remember someone on here saying Grbic is on a huge wage?Fingers crossed he’s out on loan asap.
Ukaku,Nwachukwu,Zatterstrom and Matos, again you hope we can get loaned out as nowhere near first team.

Chong has been named in the World Cup squad, the mix of potentially playing against Germany, Ivory Coast and Ecuador should give him some more experience hopefully not too much of a downer if smashed by any of them. The slight worry is he is already 26 (27 in November) and you would have hoped he would have pushed on already as a player coming into our side. Although a bit of confidence and you never know.

Regarding your comment on Cannon, I genuinely don't think we can afford to get rid unless we are replacing as it leaves us very light up front and we have to sort out our CB's yet too. Grbic is rumoured to be on £19,500 per week, I would be tempted to offer him out without a fee and take over the remaining year contract. Matos has looked ok in certain U21s games I have seen so I would say a loan would be good. the other 3 aren't getting anywhere close and need to be getting rid of ASAP.

I don't think it would take much to make it feel very different.

You look through the players and we have some good quality, some good creativity, some good athleticism, just collectively we seem to come up short.

We need some leadership as I don't think there is any.

This time last year, we felt like we had a good squad which probably just needed a bit of reinforcement. We only lost 2 players in Souza and Anel (I think?).

Assuming we don't sell any of them, do you think we would be ok up front with Bamford, Campbell, Cannon and One?

Probably would be, but there are a few things worth noting, both good and bad.

1) Granted, we were playing poorly as a whole at the time, but Oné in those first few games looked way off the level for the Championship, but hopefully the loan at Lincoln has helped him step up to championship level.

2) Campbell was poor last season, even if he did get 6 goals, but we saw how good he was the season before where he hit 10/11 goals, so he has to get back to those levels.

3) Cannon has improved this season but has been inconsistent, ends the season with 6 goals and should have had more, but we need to see more consistent performances from him next season.

If Oné can step up and both Cannon and Campbell can perform more consistently, then we've got enough up front, if not then we'll probably have to get at least 1 more striker.

At least with Oné, we'll know early on in the season if he's ready or if he needs another loan.

The problem with Oné which has been the problem with Cannon, is where he plays is dependent on the formation Wilder uses. in a 4-4-2 variation its pretty simple either of the compliment Bamford up top but Oné could end up on the AM Left if Hamer leaves. Cannon was played in that so much which often brought criticism as to Cannon as a striker. It would also be good to get a few of the other development squad players out on loan such as Eadie, or maybe if he has a good preseason look at playing him in the League cup.
