the fixation on getting rid of high earning players to bring in cheapos has to be viewed as a failure, (i know its justified but, hell...reality has set in this is League 1) the justification for this being that the season is little over a week away and we have no idea of what the settled squad is....we could be 5 matches thats 15 points into it and still nothing is finalised.........this is bothering me :)

p.s. Strength and experience is need in this league........cant see that in our squad atm

Agree with LW. Us being unable to get rid of more high earners can potentially ruin this season. To read that there had been no enquiries for anybody was disappointing. Could we have done more to actively sell them? When Jewell spoke of an interest in Ched, did we get on the phone to him?

I think the quote was that 'Ipswich were made aware of how much he would cost them'.

I think the 'no official approach has been made' line is just made for 'no news day'. Everyone knows that conversations go on between players and agents and 'spokespeople' from both clubs without the need for an 'official approach'. By the time such an approach is made, it's usually all done and dusted.

No one wants to buy our high earning 'stars' because surprise surprise They're sh!te
Evans, Montgomery, Cresswell, Simonson and to a lesser extent Quinn were five of the reasons we went down because either
a) They are not good enough or
b) They did not play to their 'potential'
Either way, I'm not surprised no one wants them - expensive overated garbage that 'stole' a living last season because McCabe was daft enough to pay way over the odds!!!
The fact that they have managed to get rid of Henderson and Yeates should be looked on as a massive bonus

Out of all the players that could have departed I'm actually surprised Yeates went, in fact i'm actually a little disappointed. Wilson obviously wants to utilise wingers and Yeates tore plenty of defenders a new one at this level whilst at Colchester hence his move to the Championship which is possibly a step too much for him - although I would say that it was consistency that was the main problem since before xmas he was on fire when Speed used him to his strengths. It didn't work under Adams but then again what did work under that muppet?
Hendo was always going to leave because he showed he could do it at Championship level before his injury. I'm surprised Monty hasn't attracted any suitors since anyone watching him over the years would know his strengths of breaking up play - put him alongside a good playmaker and you're laughing in the championship.
Quinn? Only played well in the last few months. Prior to that he was bobbins. I mean PROPER bobbins. So I'm not surprised nowt has come in for him.
Cresswell had a decent first season but last year was dire so what championship club in their right mind would take him on to take their club forward at his age?
Willo has injury concerns big time. If he does well for us and stays fit til xmas I would expect some January bids.
Boggy is massively overated in terms of the wages we are paying him and I can't see anyone coming in for him at all.
Ched will score goals for fun at this level and will be gone in January if not by the end of August. I want the lad to stay as I fully believe he'll score plenty in div 3.
No-one but nooooo-one will take Simmo off our hands after last season. We are stuck with this one.

It wouldn't surprise me if teams came in at the last minute on deadline day with a low low offer for players knowing that we'll have to part as we can't sustain their wages. Offer low bids now and we'll hold out for more. On the 31st August we're fucked for holding out for anything. Cue 1 or 2 leaving for peanuts - probs Ched and Monty.

There's my (slightly wine induced) take on it anyway.

Ched could have an extra 5 yards of pace and a leap like a salmon. But he still wouldn't score goals as his off the ball movement is dreadful and his anticipation is non-existent.

In amongst your admittedly high quality posting I am sure there was something somewhere about people who were being negative should (and I quote) "fuck off to S6". Now I'm sorry if I have read this wrong but you are being a little, how can I put it, down in the mouth here. Do you need directions towards the A61 or would you prefer the tram?

In short, McCabe won't give Wilson a bean until all the deadwood has gone. Wilson is hamstrung because no one wants our deadwood so he can't get his own players in. None of this is Wilsons making in the same way it wasn't the making of the poor bastards before them. If this season falls on its face it will be because SuperBlade (tm) once more didn't speculate in the actual football team. Probably too busy sorting us a high profile deal in Elbonia with their womens u10's which just happens to be next to a nice plot of real estate he has an eye on. Perhaps.

No one has a chance of being a success at SUFC because of McCabe. Until he goes were fucked.
