Squad Numbers....

Everybody last year kept the numbers they had in pre-season, nobody thought McNulty and Scougs would keep 7 and 8, but they did. Clarke, Lavery and Reed being 9, 22 and 30 in training means they are most likely their new numbers, Ched will be 32. Thomas will be 8, even though that is a bit weird for a winger who won't start much.

Wasn't it Chansiri that gave the players their numbers? It does seem that it was done using your suggested method though :D

Don't know why Thomas has 8 when it could go to Coutts. Similarly bizarre to giving it to Scougall last season.

Stearman should be given a prominent number.

I officially demand he be given number 4 with Fleck taking 8.
 



carruthers is keeping 44 then, got a feeling clarke has the number 9 shirt for next season unless were saving it for a new attacking player
 
Looks like Leon has got number 9, and fascinatingly Hanson has switched from 16 to 17. Why's Ched 32?

Stevens and Thomas being 3 and 8 isn't anything we didn't already know, the first picture of the new signings in training had those two, Baldock as 2 and Evans as 32. Clarke being 9 was mentioned right at the start of this thread.

Oconnel is 5, Wright is still 13 from what the training pics say, havent seen Lafferty but can only assume he is still 24, as enda is 3, freeman still 18, coutts 15

hanson was number 16 last year so his number has changed
 
I accidentally included Hanson in both changed and the same lists. I also missed James Wilson out. Today's game should provide numbers for Stearman and Graham and show whether the training numbers and match numbers match up, although back in the day you'd just wear 1-11 for pre-season.

Cheds is the number of months he did inside or the amount (in thousands) that he's on per week
 
Can't be far off the numbers for the new season being confirmed.

May also give an indication to any potential incomings, if any numbers are left 'unassigned'.
 
A few observations and a few things that irk me, and my OCD...numbers have to feel right:

  • Stearman looks like being 19
  • Why does Thomas take 8? He's a winger. He should have 11 and Coutts should have 8.
  • Freeman will want 18
  • Duffy will want 21
  • 7 could be Carruthers but that is a wingers number for me, not a centre mid's.
  • Of our options, Clarke ought to be 9, he's earned it and could be a useful asset for us next year when fit.
  • Ched will have to prove himself worthy of the 9 shirt and probably won't want the pressure right away of picking up where he left off. He wore 32 when he was successful at Norwich a la below...

I too am OCD about this, and it won't be perfect by any means. However under Wilder we will not have to endure such torture as James Beattie wearing 6.
