Numbers at Eastleigh
Done 12
Brayford 14
Lundstram 7
Blackman 27
Bennett 16

Done not being 11 last night probably means that is up for grabs.

99/00 was the season that Murphy wore 7 (it was the first season the Football League did squad numbers) he joined just before the season and it was probably intended for Saunders before he left. That season also featured Kozluk at right back as 5, Derry in midfield wearing 2 and Jon Hunt as a poor excuse for a footballer as 6.

The following season Warnock moved Kozluk to 2, Murphy to 5, Michael Brown to 7 and all was right with the world.

My serious concerns:

- Stearman should have a more prominent number than 19 - I would like to see 6, 5 and 4 in the back three.
- Thomas shouldn't be number 8 - it's almost as bizarre as giving McNulty 7 last season. Well, it isn't, but still. Coutts or Fleck should take 8.
- Brooks should have something better than 36. I'd give him 11.
- If Blackman has taken 27 then I don't know why because 12 is available.
- 7 would be a good number for Carruthers but he seems to insist on 44.
- Evans should have something better than 32. Like 20. 20 is a lovely number.

Because 27 is as much a keeper's number as 12 is

Does any of this really matter?

As long as we don't have really silly numbers like the Pigs, it's ok.

Although, obviously, it makes no difference whatsoever, there are some strange ones there. Why move Lavery from 9 to 22 and Clarke from 27 to 9 then give 7 to Lundstram? Strangest for me is that Hanson has moved from 16 to 17 when as far as I can remember, no one had 17 last season.

I agree with Ricky in that I like to see players squad numbers reflect their position. I would be genuinely interested to know what the process is for deciding who gets what. I suspect it's a combination of some players having 'lucky' numbers, presumably this is the case with Carruthers, others having a preference, perhaps Clarke wanted to be 9 and others not caring less, Lavery to 22. The rest I presume get picked by the management team based on position.

Stevens and Baldock 2 and 3 does that mean Wilder sees them two as his number one choices at fullback

No, it probably means that Freeman and Lafferty want to keep the numbers that they did so well in last year.

Squad numbers mean fuck all.

Witch. Burn him!!!

Can't you see how important it is to some? Poor souls, sat there obsessing over this conundrum, switching the light on and of 56 times, opening their cats food upside down, rearranging their vest and underpants drawer. every fifteen minutes and studiously avoiding seeing any pictures of a naked lady.

It's the same every season at every club and still winds me up how much importance some people place on them.

If the player is good enough, trains well enough and is in good form, he will be starting, even if he is a striker with the number 29 shirt.

Left 12 open for Leonard and 11 for our secret superstar signing i reckon ;)

Looks like they won't even get a game against Walsall. Hopefully there is movement soon for the benefit of all parties.

It sucks, I would have liked to have seen John play at least one competitive first team match this season before we sell him.

I can understand offloading Done but not Brayford.
