If anyone refuses to sign a new contract by 1st August I'd sell them for what we can and reinvest in players who do want to be here long term

Hi Stegosaurus here,

Looking very troubling--we could easily lose two of our best prospects (Jebbison and N'Diaye) and three of our best players (Egan, Baldock and Berge) for nothing.

Scandalous that it's got to such a state, to be honest. Wednesday will be pissing themselves if come the end of the season, we lose 40 million worth of talent for nix, nought, nothing.

Not to mention semi-decent players like McBurnie and Bogle.

Why ! If we stay up it aint a problem ! if we go down big changers within the playing squad anyway will happen.
Also probably a new owner who will want to put his owner mark on the squad via the manager .
How ain’t it a problem if we stay up?

Perhaps we should get some more in before even contemplating that way forward ?

I don't get the worry over this. If we want to keep some of these players, we'll offer them contracts. If we don't, we can cut bait and reshape the squad. Right now this is the opposite situation to our last relegation where we were rewarding players for past performance (to be clear, I'm morally fine with that, they earned it, it just left us in a bit of a mess) and so were stuck paying eg Enda Stevens like he was a top-end Championship player when he was replacement-level at best.

If the out-of-contract players are playing to a level this season where we can't afford to compete with the other clubs that are interested in them, that probably means we've had a successful season.

It sometimes feels like there's an assumption from fans that we'll never sign any other players again at any point in the future.

How many permanent transfers have we made that have involved a fee over the past two years?

(not a dig, but I understand people's worry and scepticism about us bringing players in)

Hardly any but I don't really see the relevance of that. All signs point to this promotion being used to put us on a firmer financial footing (ideally for a sale) rather than the situation we've spent the last two years in.

We're about to lose our best player because we let him enter the final year of his contract. This made it much more difficult to reject a sizeable bid from Marseille.

Very worrying, then, that almost the entirety of our first-team squad are also entering the final year of their contracts.

Where is the long-term planning? Why are we not tying down our assets? I can't imagine there's another club in the country where 90% of the first team squad are out of contract in 12 months.
