Sure Wilder’s looking forward to this one. On Football Focus last May (the one where he was joking about missing Hazard playing in the Premier League) he said Pochettino was his favourite manager in the Premier League.

Nerd alert - one caveat, a lot of that is penalties. Strip those out and they're creating 1.2xG per game (14th in the league, behind us in 12th) although they are also then conceding 0.9xG against, which is the best in the league, surprisingly.

Penalties still count as goals of course and good teams tend to get more of them as they do more attacking, but they've been really poor from open play relative to their resources. I genuinely won't be shocked if they finish 8th-9th unless something changes - this is a pattern that's been going on more or less since Ole took over, they just had a lovely run of fixtures / nicked a lot of close games that made them look better than they actually were.

Helps when you've got Dan James too.

They'll have to weigh up the chance of success (minimal) with the fallout should they choose to appeal a red card given where the player on the receiving end is going to be out for a year.

Spurs performances at the moment definitely have the feeling of the end of an era.

I was just about to post saying that I would be surprised if the red wasn't appealed when I spotted this. But I was also going to opine that I can't see Son being in the right frame of mind to play on Saturday, even if the decision is overturned (which I believe that it should be), and that it would actually benefit us if he did play, as his mind will play tricks with him for some time and he won't be the player he was for at least a few games.

MOTD2 said that the referee changed it to a red when he saw the extent of the injury, as he's entitled to. But if you apply that logic, players risk getting sent off for challenges that aren't even fouls!

I’m currently reading Pochettino’s book, comes across as a top class person. Sits alongside Wilder & Klopp for me as the best managers around at the moment. He deserves better than Spurs & Daniel Levy.

Obviously you get a few pissed up idiots bit they are few and far between.

There can occasionally be a bit of friction when the away fans first leave and mingle with Spurs but but it usually well policed. The away fan section is at their the other end to the livelier Spurs support so I can't see there being any problems.

I get what you are saying, Traffs, but I suspect Son will be playing on Weds night in the Champions League. For a footballer, getting stuck into the next game is the key thing to get that sort of stuff out of your mind. I see Spurs appealing the red card and Son being Ok to play on Saturday. He is special talent, that lad - so it would be handy for us if he isn't playing.

Who actually said it though? Another pundit who can’t be arsed to actually do any research? Because I’m hearing the exact opposite from Mark Halsey, former ref, and what he says is in line with what I’ve heard from refs previously.

It’s very rare red cards are ever overturned. It’s usually only in cases where there’s been mistaken identity or a cast iron factual mistake.

In these types of cases in the past where it’s opinion based, the original decision stands, even when most people agree it was a poor decision.

I’d be really surprised if the red is overturned. Also don’t believe it’s possible to downgrade it to a yellow card. I’m 99% certain the current rules mean the red must stand.
