Sponsor too late

To be fair to the club, it sounds like Adidas are forcing solid backs on all their clubs with striped shirts. In which case Adidas can fuck right off. Hope that’s the last we see of them.

Juventus haven't even got proper stripes on their backs, same template as ours. We never stood a chance.

What's the likelihood of them just changing the transfer on the front then? Whether it's getting rid of the box and still having green letters just with a stroke around them like teletext and alpharooms, or changing the green to black and leaving it in a box?

I can't see it really, but they fucked about with the kits quite a lot last season really, home was fine but the away wasn't available in the same sizes, and then they didn't really restock it, and then they played in a white kit out of nowhere, and then they released a white goalkeeper kit in the club shop but didn't really say anything, and then the released a proper replica of the white third kit but only 500, until they found some more in the shed and sold those at the end of the season.

Was a bit of a shit show, and that's not including bits of the training gear that came, went and was never restocked after like, September.

Changing a transfer is small time compared to that lot. Change it, make people a bit happier, £5 club shop voucher strictly with proof of purchase to those that have the OG one?

I'd expect that they can do it, whether they will is another matter. They could have sold umpteen more of last year's white kit - they chose not to. I suspect the difference again here is if they choose to.

...and they might need to, if they want to sell any on the basis of current feedback.

Why is it we struggle to attract a decent sponsor and get one last minute? This changing sponsor every season is ridiculous. 5 years of Adidas , 4 crap shirt sponsors

So.... they build up the new kit for what seemed like 6 months with the shit marketing, yet in reality it's a rush job where they didn't even have enough time to make sure something as basic as the sponsor looks acceptable?

I don't get the issue with the sponsor, its sadly part of football.

I think that it's because the lettering will be green. I think I'm right in thinking that alphrooms' logo was changed to black and white to suit the kit? this is why people don't like the shirts ... on top of adidas's lazy "design" which is as unattractive as any shirt they've made for us.

Umbro next season hopefully.

I wish the club would acquire all Hobott’s trade marks & designs, etc from whoever currently holds them, arrange for a decent manufacturer in sheffield and make our own kits. Decent material, fully striped, with embroided badges, with ‘Made in Sheffield’ on the label.

The kit design is something different, but i hadn't actually realised that the sponsor was green.

Spot on, our commercial department are shit. They have clearly demonstrated time and time again that they are not up to the job and the club is losing out on money from lack of sales.

Being an actual fan should be a priority when employing people in these roles at the club. They'd do a much better job.
I swear to god i could and would run that department singlehanded, design a much better kit, order more training wear in, stock up for xmas, order less size xxxxl’s, release some retro kits for the older lads, I would make the club money and most fans would be very happy. I can do all of it myself, basic business school stuff. Fucking muppets at our club taking a wage and not doing owt.

Yes but Juve rarely have stripes on their backs anymore. When they do they only have to apply big stupid boxes on the back when they play in Europe

Retro, sponsorless shirts would sell very well. No wonder we never have any to choose from.

We’re Sheffield United not Man United, we’re hardly fighting off sponsors with a shitty stick!

People moan about the transfer/wages budget being low, but are happy to throw away a few hundred grand in sponsorship money so the shirt looks a little bit better!

The failure to procure a sponsor in adequate time such that you can stick it on the shirt without it looking like an absolute monstrosity is inexcusable. Delay the release by a week or two if that’s what it’ll take to get it right.

Whatever small gains are made by taking so long to pick a sponsor will be outstripped by the lack of sales. Look at the reaction, how many of these do you really think they’ll sell compared to last year? I know a large part of the issue is the solid back, which is Adidas’ fault. But it’s still a piss-poor effort from United.

I hope they take some of this criticism on board and act on it. It might be too late to change this season, but next year they’ve got some serious making up to do.

Ultimately, the kit is for the fans. So make it for the fans. Listen to them. It’s common sense ffs

We did have a sponsor though didn't we? Teletext Holidays. Wasn't there a multi year contract signed?

Ultimately though, I don't think outside of here the hate is strong enough for anything to change tbh.

End of the day you don’t know any of the facts of the sponsorship deal or the process behind it.

Personally, I can’t imagine it’s an easy job persuading a company to hand over hundreds of thousands of pounds to sponsor United. So starting to get picky with petty things like it can’t be green isn’t going to help.

I can’t see it hitting sales that much, no kid will give a shit about the sponsor or white back, they just want a United shirt.

Think Teletext took over alpharooms’ contract when they bought them out

Yeah but there was still a year left, unless the partnership broke down.

Sheffield United unveiled alpharooms.com as their main Club sponsor for the next three seasons at an exclusive Home kit launch event at Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

Although I doubt it did because we were still advertising them just a few weeks back, offering hotels and shiz for the Portugal trip.

As far as I know, this is actually the final year of our agreement with Adidas, in which case it'd be a good time to move on when it ends.
The problem is, there's a fair few suppliers worse than Adidas so it could be a 'careful what you wish for' situation.

Personally, the only other company I would want to jump ship for would be Umbro.

Think some people need to chill out about the kit. I’m not keen on the solid back but apart from that it’s fine. Imagine not releasing a kit until xmas and when it is released it looking like it was made by a 5 year old! Some proper flouncing going on in here.
