CONFIRMED Souza off!?

Fixed….
You ruined it. Luke1993's point is valid. Souza is good at some things in a very specific role. If he's asked to do another role it all falls apart.

For example his tackling. If he's in a position where he can get close to an opponent, he's strong, determined and brave enough to brush a lot of players off the ball. His tackle stats are impressive. So, if there's a club that is interested in him, it is because they want him to just do that. Stay in a deep, central position, in front of the centre halves, challenge for headers, loose balls, tackle and kick people, he could be what they want.

His passing accuracy (80,3%) was only bettered by Archer and Arblaster last season, so some clubs will be thinking he can improve slightly on that, by having better players to pass to, more composed players who make themselves available more, players who don't chase the ball for 70% of the time, i.e. in a team that keep the ball more than we did last season. Other clubs may also think they have stronger options in central midfield than, for example the defensively catastrophic Gus Hamer and James McAtee, to supplement him.

If, like we've done, you ask Souza to do a box to box role, he will trot forward, switch off, wander out wide, pick up a random, even irrelevant, runner and stay with him, even if there are big gaps in the danger zones and teammates are desperate for help. He won't be central to make telling tackles, he won't challenge for headers and he won't pick up the lose balls. He's too immobile, too undisciplined, not clever enough to do that role. Many fans will blame his "attitude" and stick to that belief even if he does better in a different setup.

Tbf I've only watched this kid on the TV ( health issues stop me from going these days) but I think he got thrown in to early for the premier League with the speed of the football, I just get the feeling a year a season in the championship could make him ?
No doubt those of you who go to games see more of his off the ball work than TV shows you !

Could make him what?

We paid £10m for him or whatever it was. He should be walking into the championship as one of the best players by a fairly long way.

Last season everyone was poor. Players like Anel were the best in the championship and so poor in the PL. hopefully the likes of Trusty and Souza can show what they can do.

If not it’s a serious waste of money.

£43.2M for a 29-year old, on top of the £85M they paid for a 30-year old Kane. Good grief.

He's not good enough for that role, they'll want better
Agreed, but his stats look good.

I reckon whoever goes in for him will be looking at his stats without properly scouting him. This definitely works in our favour, especially with all the Fulham fan articles suggesting him as the ideal replacement too.

Settle him down into English football, there's a footballer in there ,I watch a lot of European leagues and ours is manic at times
The one thing we need is a settled squad some of these youngsters that played last season confidence will be on the deck and a good season will do them a world of good ( hopefully CW can put a squad together that minimum puts us in the playoffs)
Personally I'm not seeing rumours of bringing in a couple of good centre halves, especially to replace Egan

I think it's less to do with his high salary that we want to trade him and more to do with the fact he's fucking shite and his attitude is that of a 4 year old child.

Delighted with that, if it happens. He embodies everything that went wrong with this last campaign.

If the previous promotion was built on total squad unity, a very effective system, and supplemented with promising youngsters e.g. Henderson, this past season was the complete opposite.

Lack of squad identity, no time to gel, no system or tactics, a lack of leaders, players who downed tools too easily, and players who showed very little buy-in to the club. He personifies all of that.

Posters would also do well to remember that a player's performances in this team won't translate directly to another team. I think I saw an idle link for both Ahmedhodzic and Souza to Fulham. They'd do well there; Souza replacing Palhinha and Ahmedhodzic is an upgrade on Ream. Give Souza a defined role and better players to pass to and Ahmedhozic a strong partner and they're both PL players.

I've said it before: one thing which is clear is that we've got set valuations for our players which need to be met before they're sold, which is why Arsenal had to nearly double their initial bid to land Ramsdale and why Burnley ponied up £15m for Berge despite him only having a year left on his contract.

Sticking my neck out: I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was £25m for both.

Souza replacing Palhinha - I've seen some ridiculous stuff on these boards but that BB is right up there with the daftest thing I've ever read on here.
Just sayin’

I’ve been consistent that we would make a decent profit on Souza. I just hope we put a chunky sell-on in the deal.

Reminds me of the old Bob Monkhouse joke. "Careers Officer asked me what I wanted to do when I left school. I told him I wanted to be a comedian and he just laughed at me. Well, I bet he's not laughing at me now." Great comic Bob, massively underrated.

Sounds bollocks but hope I'm wrong 🤞
