Player Suggestion Souttar played and scored last night

He will likely miss 5-6 games due to the Asian Cup. We definitely need another centre half just to cover us for that

Wilder said he wanted 2, and we absolutely need 2 if McG is surplus to requirements.

Let's see what happens.

If true (big if), then 10m feels like too much for Souttar.

In a world of SCR we should absolutely be concerned about the club over-paying for players, especially for a depreciating asset like Souttar. This is a big commitment of the playing resources for both this and future seasons. It impacts our ability to build a competitive team for both this and future seasons. Its a big punt from the owners that will only pay off with a promotion.

Maybe the people financing the club (the detested COH) have decided that Souttar is worth it and are prepared to pay the required fee.
Presumably they have a better take on their investments than any of us fans - no matter how much we want to slag them off?
It's not a case of "can we afford it". It's more "we're desperately short in 3 positions and shouldn't be spaffing all our budget on a single player".

When Norwich lost Nunez, they were smart and rebuilt their entire attack for £10m. Wilder chucking big money at a "statement signing" never works.

It costs less to stop other teams scoring against you than it does to guarantee out scoring other teams.

If money is tight, it's best to spend what you do have making yourself hard to beat. Half arsing it at the top of the pitch, at the expense of securing your own area, only guarantees that your shite in both boxes.

We bought young players based on a poker players recommendation, who happened to have investments in the clubs tje players played for 🤣🤣🤣

I like souttar but 10m for a player thats barely played a season in 6 is just madness.
Leicester paid 15m for him.

You can understand why they want around 10m.

Part of the reason for that is Leicester didnt pick him not that he was injured

Whatever the reason he wasn’t playing, I struggle to get my head around how we can value him at £10m+ when he’s barely played regularly in 5 years

What squad number is available for H.
Will definitely be 6.

There's been some movement already, i.e Tanganga to 5, Doherty's been given his 2.
Rothwell to 7
Cannon to 9

We have6 and now 8 available. I wonder if Phillips will be given 8, or if Peck will be given 8. I would like that, plus would be a statement to say he's not leaving

I do have some sympathy with the owners when I read some of the comments because there is always an element of wanting your cake and eating it.

You want Souttar as first choice. He comes with it at a price. You don’t get to have what you want, when you want it at a price you want it. You get two out of those three at best.

On one hand folk will be saying we shouldn’t pay x for Souttar, I’d only pay x - 2m (for example). Well, you wouldn’t get him then.

Roll on two months and the more inferior defender comes in and folk are saying “he’s not as good as Souttar. We should have paid the extra.”

It’s not long back folk we’re bemoaning the club not being held for more money from QPR on their right back, Dunne.

It’s very difficult to please a football fanbase.

I think you misunderstand people's concerns; it isn't the fee per se, and it isn't people saying Harry Souttar ain't any good, but it's spending £10m+ on a Harry Souttar that hasn't completed a full season for over half a decade. It's also the fact that we have seemingly backed ourselves into a corner, where we have given ourselves essentially no other option than paying the full whack that Leicester are after. No one else is (apparently) in for him and we don't appear to have a fall back option to give us a stronger bargaining position. It's a really poor recruitment method and shows no signs of changing.

Agree, and Wilder sees him as the major signing that will appease the fans and get them back on his side, instead of looking at other positions that need improving, yes, he's good , if fit, but if we can't land him at this late stage then who do we turn too

Weve tried the long term thinking with Brewster, McBurnie and to a lesser extent Mousett it failed miserably

The above players had no resale value after us spunking over £40m

We dont know that

You have to get there first hopefully the new owners have a better plan and more momey than the Prince
Didn’t work you’re right. Perhaps we should be looking at the guy insisting on the signings then as he may be the real problem?

Leicester paid 15m for him.

We paid £15m for Hamer and got less than half back.
We paid £23m for Brewster and got nowt.
We paid £17m for McBurnie and got nowt.
We paid £8m for Mousset and got nowt.
We paid £ms for Cannon and he's worth nowt to anyone but Preston ...
And we refuse to sell him.
If dem Blades were market traders they'd be Barings Bank and Wilder would be our Nick Leeson.
No wonder we're in the shit.
And our owners are stupid.
They say their business plan is based on successful player-trading.
And they have the Bettis/Wilder axis in charge.
Watching it unfold is almost unbearable.
If we sell Oné and keep Cannon , I might need medical help to keep using my ST.

Believe from the recent evidence, that the majority of supporters on here do not see Souttar as value for money at £10m especially when we lose him for six matches and have other positions to fill.

I don’t think spending 10m compared to 8 will make that much difference. We were looking at spending on Soutts no matter what and the rest on loan. I think buying a player in the more attacking areas of comparable quality as Soutts is in defence would cost a lot more than 10 million. There’s still a week and half to go and by that time I’m confident we will be a lot happier.

Sometimes these figures get lost in translation by so called itk’ers.

Personally, whatever we pay, Souttar improves the squad just as Phillips does.

I am hoping that this quoted £10m + add ons is actually £10m (or less) including add ons?

I am not bigging up our owners because of the shit show they have caused since their arrival, but they know the finances and if they have sanctioned this (which they obviously have) then surely this can be funded? (somehow)

I hope we have seen the last of our assets leaving anyway, not that we have many left and it’s fringe players that are still to leave

Literally all clubs bar those in prem, and even then it’s not all of them, get anything back from majority of players they buy

For every one or odd two you sell to a prem team for profit more than often most don’t

The reason we didn’t sell Hamer or McBurnie or moose for big money is there was never any market for them to get that money so we decided to obviously act as we did

You can’t base value on losing someone for international duty otherwise you would never buy anyone from South America/Africa or Asia

And 10 million isn’t filling many other positions unless you are going to gamble on 2 or 3 lower league targets which will always be a gamble

If Soutts doesn’t get injured and plays rest of that season most would be happy with the signing at that price

Or avoiding relegation? 🤔

So it's boom or bust. The type of thing Wilder MK1 was against. Can only imagine that if we don't get promotion this season then it's going to be big trouble for us financially going forward
