Soumare & Chong

No idea what Chong was up to tonight. He was put on in place of Brooks, a downgrade in my eyes, and should have gone man-to-man on Lawal but gave him so much space when we went 5-4-1 and he ended up out on the left side.

Soumare is too inconsistent for me. As soon as Arblaster finds his game again and if we keep hold of Peck, that is the two we need in the middle of the park.

What the hell is wrong with the squad's fitness too? The only player who looked like he had legs on him post 80 minutes was O'Hare. Everyone else looked shattered.

Thought we had an option to buy, if we are looking at future investments he's the man its a no brainer

It's not an option it's an obligation, but I imagine that's if we got promoted.

Seem to remember it being reported around 7/8 million, not sure we'll be in the position to pay that this summer tbh.

Waiting for Arblaster to find his feet again is wishful thinking.

Have to think the decision to play 30mins on an ACL tear is stupidity personified and he barely looks serviceable as a sub.

Can't run, can barely tackle....another day his giveaways get punished.

Yeah, I like Soumare and he showed a lot of talent at times tonite, but given we are a little lightweight it always feels like a risk. The chance of him playing a visionary through ball to set up a goal, does not seem more likely than him giving away the ball and setting up the opposition for the counter attack. But, I like that Wilder seems to be backing him, he did not seem to be his 'type'. Still I would like to see another solid and energetic midfielder bought in the January window. Chong is a interesting one, what I remember of him, was a few years back getting MoM against us, while on loan at Birmingham, playing as a box-to-box left sided midfielder, seemed to be able to do a bit of everything that day. Seems another player, who looks like he fluctuates with confidence. I definately dont seem he as displacing Brooks at present.

We're still lacking a midfield 'unit', which last season we had (in some matches) with Souza. Peck is a grafter but lacks direction and is like Norwood without the fancy-pants long ball talent, Matos looks way beneath what we need, Soumare is fragile and inconsistent despite showing us some promise, Davies could be something if he were not made from breadsticks, and that just leaves Riedewald who seems to be still finding his place. The ability to control midfield is more than 50% of the modern game both in and out of possession and we seem to be able to do neither, which is a shame.

joe rothwell could well be that man soumare showed some nice touches tonight but also gave the ball away too often as did brooks him chong and ogbene are much of a muchness none of them good enough we need.better on that right hand side

Sometimes he looks as weak as piss but I was impressed with him last night there is a player in there for sure, something to develop but do we have time for that? Not too impresssed with Chong though.

If you could grab him for a couple of million tops then I'd be tempted. He can do things none of our other midfielders can do but he's very inconsistent.

I'm amazed when people call him shit, as he's clearly not at all. Seems to do better starting a game. Maybe he struggles to adapt to the pace as a substitute?

Look at the people who call him shit and everything becomes clear. He’s young, inconsistent and learning the Championship but he’s far from shit.

Great game from Soumare. Maybe happens when he's with Jairo??

Chong was poor imo. Very negative. Was a moment when he had the ball in space out wide easy option to drive into the box and just brought the ball back. Another nearly lost it tracking back. Need to see him going past players and being a lot stronger.

Chong is dire.

Soumare it’s like I’ve just read on twitter - one week he looks like Patrick Veira the next Patrick Starfish
nail on the head there soumare is too inconsistent for me even last night there were parts of the game where he looked very good but then other spells where he gave the ball away cheaply for me joe rothwell if we could get him is definetly the better option

Chong reminds me of Brian Howard, a complete coward of a player whose only hint of workrate is trying to hide from the ball. He doesn't track back, doesn't offer himself for a pass and if he has the misfortune to have it at his feet, he tries to go backwards even if forwards is much simpler. If he just wants to watch he should buy a ticket.

He's not the only one though, on Seriki's booking everyone was playing hide and seek for some reason.

Soumare is a much better starter than a sub and obviously better when he's not the last line of defensive midfield, he's not perfect but there's enough there to work with.

Jairo anchored last night and Soumare played higher. It worked much better than the converse which we have tried before.

I like him. He could be a clever but bastard of a player. Basically comes down to consistency but i’d give him a shot if we could.
