How can he get away with challenges like that last night?
Probably intentional, at best reckless and dangerous play.
Retrospective red and a ban coming up.
I wish.

He's gonna get a good reception if he ever turns up at the lane as a player with any team that's for sure !
Shit late challenge by a big thick forward . I really don't think or hope it was intentional .
F000kin ref never did or gave anything , from his reaction I knew straight away his was in trouble .

Wasn't a great attempt to block the ball, striker in the wrong box. It's not intentional coutts has followed through and kicked him.

Far from intentional, poor tackle and most the time it would have been a sore leg at worst.

Not sure wether this has been posted, but nevertheless it’s a shocking picture...all the very best Coutts

Edit: apologies, as it’s in other threads that I didn’t read...

Committed challenge chasing down a shot. It was reckless and a free kick, definitely a booking, but possibly a red.

Coutts was unlucky based on where the player hit him as he was striking the ball.

I am trying to keep a level head about this one. It was just a lazy reactive challenge abd certainly not intentional.
Players get booked and sent off all the time for tackles like that, the ref couldn't have had a good view of it or surely would have taken action.A case for retrospectively action I think

The challenge is INSIDE the penalty area.
You often find refs might give a free kick outside the area but not give a decision for the same challenge inside the area,

Also the ref had already given us a penalty, it’s rare for a ref to give the away team 2 penalties.

Red card and a penalty, but the lad’s unlucky. Don’t think he meant that, just unfortunate. Gutted for Coutts, himself and Fleck are the only two we don’t have a replacement for. They’re integral to our system and whenever either is missing we struggle. Will need to spend in January. Big shame.

I’ve looked at this for a while.

I’m not at all sure that, from that picture, you can with some degree of certainty say that Sordell demonstrates Malice in the challenge. For me this would be typified by eyes directed at the “target” and a facial expression of anger. Not sure that’s evident.

What is clearly evident is that he does demonstrate that he is a big daft clumsy reckless twat that should be mindful of the physical damage his actions could have. I’m not saying back out of the challenge. But weight forward, one leg firmly planted and the other studs up at about a 45 degree angle is reckless, and inevitably, given enough instances will lead to a serious injury.

So clumsy and reckless for me.

And sometimes they don’t. Watch the highlights of our game with Ipswich again (particularly the bit where Waghorn hits the bar) and you’ll see Jake Wright hits Waghorn with a similar challenge after he got the shot off. That was hardly even mentioned on here because fortunately the outcome was differently that occasion.

Sordell just tried to block the effort , our players do exactly the same
just pure bad luck Coutts leg followed through on the swing and caught it perfectly to snap the bone

to me was just a one in a million accident
you see those attempted blocks every game just the timing from our point of view was the worst possible scenario

Sordell's foot is 2 foot off the ground with studs showing in direct conflict with Coutts striking the ball (Coutts has control), thats a straight red all day long, its dangerous and reckless play and the outcome for Coutts proves it.

Needs looking at retrospectively,if Coutts had been a Norwich player Sordell would already have been hung out to dry.

That picture has me raging

now i've calmed down a bit it doesn't look intentional but it is a bit reckless and definitely in the box..
i'd have hanged Sordell yesterday :D

yep that's how i saw it, was a split second thing, if it was coutts standing leg, then its a horror tackle, but it's the fact it's in coutts follow through that for me takes a lot off blame off sordell. he was just trying to block a shot, yes his studs were dangerously showing, but in my opinion it was a terrible accident without any malice, there will be lots who disagree but it's just my opinion

Wilder in the after match interview with Rob Staton he said that it was a penalty thats all he would say,i think he was being diplomatic,i bet in private conversation with Alan Knill he was more to the point.

At the time I didn't think it was a bad challenge. It looked like he tried to block the shot and they collided.

The picture does look awful though and it was clearly a pen, but as mentioned above there was certainly no malice involved.

I've only seen the picture of the tackle which is poor from sordell!. I've never rated sordell as a player as he is big and slow, possesses very little skill and has the turning circle of a truck. Wishing all the best to coutts for a speedy recovery. Utb

Agree LJ but two wrongs don't make a right ,it does happen a lot and it causes lots of bad ankle and shin injuries,On this occasion he had his back half turned on Coutts which was protecting himself from injury ,not saying it was deliberate but he sure made sure he wasn't going to get hurt, red card for me.

Presumably Coutt's was wearing a shin pad and if so it did a rubbish job of spreading the load of the impact.
Two forces at play here. Impact and speed. Impact is the boot of Sordell, speed is the leg of Coutts as he attempts to shoot the ball. If Coutts hadn’t been in mid-shot that tackle would have caused very little injury. It’s the combination of both which has resulted in a fracture no shin pad would prevent. Very unfortunate.

Far from intentional, poor tackle, really? What he did could never be described as a tackle, look at WarringtonBlade avator, that is a genuine attempt to block the ball in similar circumstance, with the wrong leg.

Sordell has deliberately left his studs there for Coutts to follow through into, thus,in the eyes of the niave, absolving himself of any responsibility for the inevitable contact. Had Sordell not locked his leg, Coutts may well have just had a sore shin, but he did and it was always going to cause serious injury.

Footballers don't 'not know' where their various limbs are at anytime, though many claim not to, and Sordell knew exactly what he was doing. Obviously, he couldn't predict the serious nature of the resulting injury.

Well, you can make your own minds up but watching this clip I’m in little doubt he meant to take Coutts out

I'm afraid it's a typical "I probably won't get the ball, but If I don't I'll bloody well slow the cunt down"
As they say, it's a physical game :(
