It's a red. Has been for ages.So I get that in "modern day football", the rules are that Anel raising his hands results in a sending off and he had to go.
But not so long ago, the approach would not have been to send the player off. The referee would have just got both players together, given them a massive bollocking, made them shake hands and that would probably have been the end of that.
So why on earth are we in this situation where a bit of silly handbags in a physical contact sport results in a sending off. Surely the current rules just encourage cheating like we saw today from that Coventry player
How in football have we got to this situation and why can't we go back?
Yes, still a red. But a 10 match ban instead of 3If he’s going to get a red, he should have swung a haymaker at the cunt.
Not only has Anel cost us 2 points and weakened the team for a potential further 9 points .Which is why I was surprised at amount of applause Anel received from our support while walking off the pitch. Despite the provocation and his understandable anger, he was fuckin stupid in his actions and the whole game changed in Coventry's favour at that point. We have to be happy with a deserved point today but I'm convinced we'd have won that game with eleven men on the pitch second half.
You say officials but the linesmen these days do fuck all. They can't even flag for throw-ins unless check with ref. Dunno why we pay them.I do not condone what Anel did He is suspended now for three games I think. However, the officials should have seen what was happening leading up to the incident.
Can you imagine if that had been the norm years ago? Chelsea v Anyone, they’d have been queueing up to slot John Terry within seconds of kick-off.The game is too soft i love watching a good scrap I think they should allow hockey style fighting that would sort the men out from the boys.
Little sh*t houses like Basette would not be so quick to start a fight then.
I can't say I have read the rulebook but you could have a whole set of different parts and punishments. Is a clip round the ear more or less than the back of the neck? What about tweaking someone's nose? Technically front of the face but a bit more comedy value...Think someone on shoutbox during the game said it's different if it's the back of the neck
I'd be interested to see if it's actually differentiated in the rules, front v back, I thought it was just anything neck height or above. So presumably a thwack to the back of the head be ok as well?
Don't remember Billy ever doing any of that sneaky shit to anyone as a player if he did I'm sure you can point out whenLaughable how pissy our fans have been over this.
Yeah Bassette was a cunt but it's football. Since the beginning of time players have tried to wind the opposition up to get a reaction.
He played Anel like a fiddle.
Yeah, better and more experienced players than Anel have reacted to provocation but it was still naive of him and he let his team down.
Some of the comments I've seen make us look like wet wipes and cry babies. Wouldn't be surprised either that some of the biggest whingers lapped it up when Billy tried to goad opposition players and left a bit on here and there.
He can't say anything else publicly but imo we are hopeless at taking opportunities to influence.
When Robbo won a throw-in off an opponent , the latter petulantly pushed him - but Robbo's reaction is to prove his manliness by refusing to go down.
If he'd hit the deck on being pushed when ball not in play , it was at least a yellow for their guy.
CW always talks about "fine margins"
Last two jobs I’ve had HR have been as useful as an ashtray on a motorbikeQuite a lot to unpack there, most of it wrong.
I’m guessing there’s no HR department ay your place?
I agree but in his first tackle on anel when he went down on his head , that could have been nasty, the twat wanted sending off for that , if Robo would have been on the pitch and seen that the wanker would be limping today !!!Laughable how pissy our fans have been over this.

Should have done this to the little fucking weasel…Should have just twated the cunt same 3 match ban anyway!
Totally agree, the linesman must have only been a few yards away from the Bassette elbow to the back of Anel’s head and yet neither he, or the ref thought it warranted even a chat to agree why Angel was down holding the back of his head. You say officials but the linesmen these days do fuck all. They can't even flag for throw-ins unless check with ref. Dunno why we pay them.
And the ref can't see everything.
If he was then that would have been a surprising lack of self-control from Robbo. Equally as daft as Anel, one might say.I agree but in his first tackle on anel when he went down on his head , that could have been nasty, the twat wanted sending off for that , if Robo would have been on the pitch and seen that the wanker would be limping today !!!
Appeal it and lose & its 4 game ban .. the FA will back the ref to the hilt .. pointlessHave the bollocks to appeal that one Utd, cos as sure as eggs is eggs, you would win that one.
Unless it suits to give AA a breather for whatever reason.

In between deadlifting your humongous balls
Did my throw him to the dogs for fuck sake his natural emotions took over as it would with anyoneNot only has Anel cost us 2 points and weakened the team for a potential further 9 points .
as soon as he returns , every player in the Championship now knows that it is worth winding him up coz he can't control his emotions and he'll get booked or sent-off.
After winning all our support earlier this season for what he said about his Dad , he's now fucked-up good & proper.
Needs some counselling and techniques to manage emotions.

Do it behind the ref back , if you get away with it alls goodIf he was then that would have been a surprising lack of self-control from Robbo. Equally as daft as Anel, one might say.
The coventry player is a full weight c--t but WHY DID ANEL GIVE HIM WHAT HE WANTED . He set out to get him to bite and he took the bait . The best way to act is to win the game and then laugh in his face or be a little more subtle and crock the bastard .I disliked how the Coventry player acted after Anel was sent off. Winked at his teammates and acted clever about it. That type of thing should be stopped. Deliberately winding a player up like that. Shows they planned it.cheating twats.
We had two players who were grabbed by the neck last season in separate games. Neither got punished. Not arguing but just remember feeling pissed off about it. Im certain we’d have stopped up if they were rightly punished.Hands on neck or face have been a red card for absolute years !?!?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^Wasn’t a red or me after him grabbing his neck two yellows
I just wonder if you could give a time line re the allowing of throat grabbing and hand shakes being the punishment? I don’t recall that happening in the last 30 years at least. So I get that in "modern day football", the rules are that Anel raising his hands results in a sending off and he had to go.
