SOD could be coming according to the natives in Donny.........

Why would SO'D come to BDTBL at this moment in time, he will just have to wait another couple of weeks until his beloved Wolves get rid of Mick Mack, and he gets his dream job IMO..

'Re:SOD to Sheff U 12 Hours, 50 Minutes ago *
He'd be taking one hell of a gamble going there, he wouldn't get the time or patience needed to turn that pile of shite around.'

Unfotunately, that Donny fan is probably spot on. To the outside world, we were indifferent to Speed, critical of Blackwell, hounded Robbo out of the club, and were never 100% behind our most successful manager of recent years. So yes, I can imagine why someone in a comfy, zero pressure job might feel happier not taking the job at the Lane.

Well it is spot on sadly. While not wishing to be critical of our fans, of which of course I'm one, we do presently have a hugely defeatist and negative attitude. There's bloody good reason for being down in the dumps about us right now after the last few years, but grumbling that we're shit and will always be shit is to my mind a self-fulfilling prophecy.

It is down to the club and the players in the end, but perhaps now is the time for us to try and rediscover our faith in what this club could be. We can and have been a huge positive force and it is time for us to be so again.

I firmly believe SOD is who we're after. Listening to Birch's description of the ideal candidate and their determination to get the right man at a cost I cant think of anyone else who falls under the criteria he mentioned.

There is no guarantee that we could get him but I do believe it is a more realistic target than some would make out. Why wouldn't SOD want to come to BDTBL? Ok I realise Donny are a decent little side and they're doing well at the moment but he will know they have pretty much reached their level now (barring a massive stroke of Blackpool-style fortune) and surely at some point he will want to try his hand at a bigger club????

With United he wouldn't have to up-root (assuming he lives locally), a previous manager has undertaken the start of a change in playing style and no matter how much people want to bang on about our financial short-comings, Sheffield United has and always will have more potential and (most of the time) a bigger budget to work with than Doncaster Rovers.....

We are a big club at this level and one that can get back into the top flight with smart stewardship and a bit of stability. SOD isnt my first choice but if we are going down that road of changing the style to passing football then he has to be the no.1 target. I dont see many reasons why we couldn't entice him away.

David Moyes got his side boo-ed off on Saturday. There are plenty of ManUre fans who think Fergie is over the hill. Even Wenger has many detractors. You will not get any manager with 100% support from the fans. We are no worse than any of them. I have doubts about SO'D too as being a God at Donny and a mediocre spell at Bournmouth doesn't look like preparing him for the basptism of fire he will get here...

I'm fairly sure your name won't have crossed Loughs mind when making his op Duncy...

You honestly think Mick will be sacked? I'd say he was one of the more securest managers in the PL...... mind you, having said that, I'd have said that about Hughton a couple of months since.

Rumours were he had three games to save his job prior to last Saturday's win.

Could O'Driscoll do anything with the talentless bunch of overpaid loanees at the lane?
Yes, I know exactly what he would do. Offload them together with the even more talentless bunch of permanent players.

To quote the journalist who linked to his blog on here earlier "There is no reason with the right appointment that the Blades can’t get their season back on track. Having the likes of Leon Britton and Andy Reid within your midfield is a fantastic platform to have, while they have goals in their side in the likes of Darius Henderson, Richard Cresswell, Ched Evans and Daniel Bogdanovic".

That's how a neutral sees us and he hasn't even mentioned Ward, Yeates and Williamson. We do have talented, creative players and proven goalscorers in the squad and yet we're scoring less than a goal a game. Is it remotely possible that our untried, untested manager simply wasn't very good and wasn't getting the best out of them?

That nail must have felt the square on blow on it's head.

In the event the SOD is appointed manager (and I'm being hypothetical here rather than jumping the gun), could he fashion something decent out of this?

Simonsen
Calve
Lowton
Bartley
Nosworthy
Jordan
Montgomery
Britton
Williamson
Reid (if by some miracle we keep him beyond January)
Yeates
Quinn
Ward
Henderson
Cresswell
Evans
Bogdanovic

Just picking our more prominent players there, but surely if he's as good as many on here say he is.....he could make a half-decent side out of that?! FFS he's done it with lower league misfits at Donny!

My concern if we get SOD is that he will try and get us playing football. I think our players have proved they are incapable of this. I feel we should get Brown and just avoid relegation.

Our players are capable of playing football if the system is right, this was perfectly demonstrated on Saturday when Speed put 3 in centre-mid and Monty didn't know weather to stick or twist

We have scored less than a goal a game trying to play football and conceded 234

I remember a few years back we had a worse squad of players and up popped Mr Kendall to prove that you can play football with misfits.....

GK: Simonsen, Wright
DF: Nosworthy, Bartley, Batth, Nosworthy, Morgan, Jordan
MF: Ward, Yeates, Montgomery, Ertl, Britton, Williamson, Quinn, Reid
FW: Henderson, Cresswell, Evans, Bogdanovic

Regardless of what people think of these players and their performance this season, they have all proved in previous recent seasons that they can be successful at Championship level (or above). There are obvious weak areas in the squad which Speed has failed to address:-

a) Four similar strikers. None with pace and skill and none who are physical target men other than the unavailable Henderson.
b) No proven Championship-quality full backs (other than Jordan) despite plenty of numbers in those positions (Calve, Lowton, France, Kozluk and Taylor)
c) No permanent centre-backs (other than Morgan), only three loanees vying for the two available places.

The first priority for any incoming manager should be to wheel and deal and address these problem positions. Everybody will have there own ideas on who should leave and who should remain but I would like to see a 20 man squad something like:-

GK: Simonsen, New GK (young!)
DF: New RB, Lowton, Bartley, New CB, Morgan, New LB, Jordan
MF: Ward, New CM, Montgomery, Britton, Williamson, Reid, Yeates
FW: New CF (pacy!), Henderson, Creswell, Bogdanovic

Out (where possible):- Wright, Aksalu, France, Calve, Nosworthy, Batth, Taylor, Kozluk, Ertl, Quinn, Evans

From E89 on BM. He is defo on the money with his posts ( I have said this numerous times on here before) It's a bit cryptic, so try to read between the lines. Certainly someone is mentioned in there somewhere ;)

LATEST ...

Its becoming increasingly difficult for me to post at the moment, but i always try to respond to any requests, but trust me i do not want to jepodise or compromise my position so i will not be able to respond to anything else after this today , apologies in advance

I find myself having to keep you informed with some SENSE AND NORMALITY at this moment in time, but dont want to shoot other posters down, or spoil the excitment , or spoil the banter over speculation, after all its CHRISTMAS

BUT
we are not interviewing Robins today as suggested
we didnt appoint anyone yesterday as suggested
Brian laws has not got an initial agreement with us
It will not be Megson
And so on,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

BUT
We may make an official approach for someone at the back end of the week
Carver will lead until otherwise told differantley
We are not rushing the process or we would have had somebody appointed by now, judged on our past appointments

Not wanting to be a kill-joy , but everyone knows someone via a source at the moment, and we have had more managers in the last 24 hours , than the S6 Mob have had Dodgy Chairmans. I know some will say why believe him (me) , but i have never lied or made anything up to this board. i know i aint gonna stop speculation and banta, because i love that too, but some of these rumours must be posted whilst on illegal substances :-D

i am not saying its not going to be any of the candidates people have mentioned or that it may be, they dont know yet,,,,

I will be back on as soon as i can, but its very ' TRICKY' at the moment, I will keep moats of informed on progress should this become approach gather momentum

Apologies as i wont probably get back on tonight,

I know most people on here dont like monty, but played at the side of a real quality midfielder the lad could be priceless, most of us remember Trevor Hockey playing with Tony Currie. Hockey would tackle with his head if it meant getting the ball to TC, job done!!

TRICKY rhymes with MICKY, just like I said when Birch said the same last night.....can't read owt else between the lines anyway!

latest from E89

"Expect a bit of news today, compensation could be too high for one target, but it's turning into a 3 horse race. Its expected further talks and official enquiries may start this morning, the betting field is all over at the moment, I wouldnt waste your money on a gamble just yet

UTB & FTP"

Compo too high probably means SOD!

Micky or Orange man then???

"Compensation could be too high"

and there we have it. The Board would rather save, say £1M and appoint someone less suitable for the long term. What are we talking, 6 weeks wages for Nos, unbelievable.
