Just reading between the lines here....but.....

Trevor Birch just been on RS. Says he wants a manager with Championship experience, someone who can continue to improve the image of the club in terms of playing style.....and they're prepared to pay compo to get the right man.....

A highly regarded local manager springs to mind under that description.....know who I'm talking about???? ;)

But would he want to come here?!

Immediately after relegation we were a very attractive proposition and (within Reason) could have had our pick from many decent managers.

That isn't the case any more.

Talk is cheap. Didn't the sainted Mccabe once say there's no one more ambitious than me.

There shitting themselves over at viking talk.
A Rovers mate at work says SOD is nailed on to come here & the odds have dropped sharpley today.

Have I missed something here. Where did Birch say we would pay the right compo for the right man?

Do you know, I've always liked Doncaster, but after reading some of the comments on there, I hope we do take SOD and they end up back where they came from, the fucking conference.

Dont worry they will tumble again at some point. They're a plucky little club but you cant keep that up forever on their resources and limited potential. League One is an inevitability and so is League Two when they eventually go through a bad patch again.

Somewhere between those two divisions is their level. The comments on that forum made me laugh and to be fair they're entitled to their moment in the sun to gloat.....but they know deep down they'll never be as big as the Sheffield clubs and that's what motivates those sort of comments.

Just read the post myself. Always liked Donny myself but they talk about us thinking we are too big for our boots. They should have a good look at themselves first

The arrogance of their fans is staggering! You'd have thought they'd have been playing in the Prem for the last 10 seasons.

Interview on OS too.

Birch did say that the list was more like a long list than a shortlist. Plenty of interest from managers in jobs and some out of jobs.

He also said that there is one outstanding candidate in that list, but it will be a little more difficult to get him. Which suggests it's someone currently in a job, could be S O'D

To be fair, they've done excellently over the past decade, brilliantly so. But I just can't see where it would be a backward step for him. If he get's it right at the Lane, playing the football that Doncaster have been playing for the past 3 years, in front of 20000+ crowds, he won't feel like it is a backward step.

"The right compo for the right man"

.... safe in the knowledge that if it's the right man, it's the wrong compensation for us. We'll take the cheapest option.

Good Lord. One of them has used my post. Infamy, Infamy. They've all got it infamy!

I actually think the Donny fans are spot on. We can't afford him and he wouldn't want to come anyway. There's little in that thread that is out of order, arrogant or even off the mark.

Nothing like defending your club Ollie

Ollie, if some of us still want to believe in Santa, please let us. Get back to your shed.

Agree entirely. It's amazing how easy fans become deluded. Any compo we receive will not be passed onto another club it will go towards the deficit.

True most are spot on really.

It just hurts when its fans of another club saying what some of us all think anyway.

If it is SOD then it would be the first correct decision the club have made for some time. Not just because he is probably the right sort of man for the job but also because it would be a great business decision. I say that because the club is currently in decline and the fan base need a signal from the club and something to fire their imagination to keep them coming through the turnstiles. Of all the names mentioned so far I think that SOD is the only one certain to do that.
