SOD could be coming according to the natives in Donny.........

He would be perfect because if he saw one of the academy and thought he is ready he would play him. His right back was playing non league a few years ago and Stocks I think is out of contract at the end of the season. Pay the money and he will be worth his weight in gold

We can't afford him and he wouldn't want to come anyway.

Whether we would be able to afford him is one thing, whether he'd want to come if quite another. The fact is neither you nor I actually know whether he would or not. But from my perspective, if he believes in himself and his ability to be successful then he has more scope to be so at Bramall Lane. I've nothing against Donny, they've done great, but there is a ceiling there both in support and stadium that will limit them from progressing much further from where they are now.

And while Rovers fans think they are light years ahead of us, the truth at this time is they are only five points ahead. It wouldn't take a seismic shift for us to be above them, which until now we've always been, whatever plaudits (deserved) are levelled at their team.

I would love for him to come to the lane. Been talking to a dingle fan today saying how the shift of power has moved to them and Donny in South Yorks. All they have to do now is keep it up for another 70 plus years - deluded tit.

Could O'Driscoll do anything with the talentless bunch of overpaid loanees at the lane?

Almost certainly no, he aint a miracle worker, although keeping Donny's head above water in second tier is pretty close.

As Beighton has just pointed out via a "shout" Donny still owe money for Billy............................

Dont know about you but i want more than just our heads keeping above the water, although I will accept that for this year.

Could O'Driscoll do anything with the talentless bunch of overpaid loanees at the lane?

Yes, I know exactly what he would do. Offload them together with the even more talentless bunch of permanent players.

I do hope and trust SOD doesn't read this forum. Some of you are ludicrously over-doing the sackcloth and ashes.

We are and will remain light years ahead of Doncaster in stature, fanbase, facilities etc. Everything, in fact, but team and manager. We can kill those two birds with one stone.

Of course he'd leave Donny for us. It's rather naive to think otherwise. We should do all in our power, and then a bit more, to get him here. He'll keep us up and have us in the Prem within three years and he'll do it by playing football that people will like to watch. Yet some of you would like to deter him from doing that.

I despair.

I love this bit. Does he press an eject button? Do you think there's another club in the land even half insane enough to pay the likes of Evans a quarter of what they get from us? Don't you think Speed would have done it if he could?

Sadly, whoever comes, it's a case of waiting until contracts expire. That period will test the patience of 90% of football fans and managers alike.

I hope we get him though, but wont get remotley excited about the thought.

If we managed to get him here, would you still think the same about him if his first name on the team sheet was a certain midfielder that he rates more than you? :D

I can see both sides.

O'Driscoll right now has no current reason to want to swop Donny for United. Thye've got the better squad, better position etc ...

But at United, he would have the potential to go so much further if he got it right. It would come down to whether he had the balls to take on the United challenge with all the problems. United are currently below Rovers but could - emphasis on could - challenge for Europe in a good spell. That was the aim. Rovers will never ever get there.

So Mr O'Driscoll? Come and try to become a Blades legend? It's a challenge but potentially beats the comfort zone you're in at Rovers.

He rates The Maestro more than me? I doubt it. I'm a far better player and SOD knows it. Trouble is, at 53, my legs have gone but I can still control a ball and pass more accurately than Monty.

Seriously though, SOD will offload the deadwood as quickly as he can but it will take his time and our patience. He has seen the likes of Stock, Wellens, Woods, Coppinger and Oster all run rings round our midfield battlers too often to be left in any doubt about Monty and Quinn.

Would you call for his head if he replaced Monty? Or do you, like me, put our club way above the interests of hard working but terminally limited parochial favourites?

Sorry to hear that good football doesn't excite you, mate.

I agree entirely about Evans but surely one or two of the Premiership elite would come knocking for Monty and Quinn?

Should we just play hoofball for ever?

I think you already know the answer to that one :) Just fancied a light hearted query on the subject I know you are passionate about :D

I think if TB's number 1 target is SOD, then this could be put to bed with a statement from SOD/JR/DRFC, so why doesn't Ryan/SOD put this to bed?

A simple "flattered but not interested" or "I have a job to finish here at DRFC" or "rumours of interest in me are unfounded and not true. There has been no approach or enquiry" or words to that effect, would end the conjecture and then we can all get on with guessing which one of the other 35 managers with NPL experience it could be.

The fact there is silence over in the DN region adds fuel to the fire and suggests perhaps, just perhaps, he is the man we are chasing

You miss my point. I'd love us to get O'Driscoll. I wont get excited because I don't think we'll get him. I don't think we'll get him because he'll see the difficulty in moving on our players (your eject button...:) ) and he'll know that he'll be under the cosh long before he'll have the ability to make the changes necessary.

Believe it or not, my response was light-hearted as well. I often am, but it doesn't always show

I am, however, genuinely passionate about what I call proper football and hate the fact that many think we are, by tradition and nature, excluded from participation in such nonsense. We are the 'Battling Blades' is a badge of honour that we've worn too long and I am weary of it.

I happen to think SOD is one of the few who could drag us kicking and screaming into fantasy football and we should pull out all the stops to get him, regardless [within reason of course] of the initial cost.

You've answered my question [I'm taking it as a 'Yes']; I'll reciprocate. On the assumption [Please Lord] that SOD does become our manager then, in the unlikely event of Monty forming part of his plans and SOD turning him into a footballer I shall be cheering from the rooftops and clapping like a seal. :easy:

Whoever we manage to drag kicking and screaming to the lane and whoever is on the pitch, I'll get behind in the unlikely hope we'll turn into Barcelona and power up the leagues...

Hope for the best, expect the worst.

I did miss your point. Apologies, I am corrected. He wouldn't be under my cosh [ooh missus] and I think most of us would give him time to do what we all accept is a desperately difficult job. I would hope so anyway. The alternative, to my way of thinking, is not to dare at all and surrender to everlasting, self-perpetuating hoofball. I don't think you want that any more than I do, deep down. It truly is a philosophy of despair.

Still, the spare Saturdays should bring my handicap down a bit.

Mirror's reporting United want O'Driscoll but looking at the content of the story it may well be guess work.
(Apologies - no idea how to do a link)

I can almost feel the love moving round the forum just at the thought of SO'D

To be honest, at the moment the love in my room is coming from pornhub.

I'd love us to play the beautiful game. It would be my first choice. But I'd put my mortgage on 99% of fans of clubs like Crewe and Doncaster swapping style and position with Stoke. Excitement comes in many ways, not just from pornhub and SOD.....:D

Just to turn this whole thing upside-down, I think Stoke play much better football than they are given credit for. Pulis has really surprised me by adapting superbly to the Premiership. If only Warnock had used Youporn....

'Re:SOD to Sheff U 12 Hours, 50 Minutes ago *
He'd be taking one hell of a gamble going there, he wouldn't get the time or patience needed to turn that pile of shite around.'

Unfotunately, that Donny fan is probably spot on. To the outside world, we were indifferent to Speed, critical of Blackwell, hounded Robbo out of the club, and were never 100% behind our most successful manager of recent years. So yes, I can imagine why someone in a comfy, zero pressure job might feel happier not taking the job at the Lane.

I personally wouldn't be that confident that S'OD would be able to make it here. It's a bigger club, with bigger expectations, and that might mean that a lot of his approach that worked at Donny won't work necessarily with us.

David Moyes got his side boo-ed off on Saturday. There are plenty of ManUre fans who think Fergie is over the hill. Even Wenger has many detractors. You will not get any manager with 100% support from the fans. We are no worse than any of them. I have doubts about SO'D too as being a God at Donny and a mediocre spell at Bournmouth doesn't look like preparing him for the basptism of fire he will get here...

SOD wouldn't be bad BUT it could be 'little fish in little pond' syndrome.

Also, I was less than impressed by his post-match interview last Saturday (after another 'homer' ref. at Leicester had conspired to change the outcome of a game by awarding an outrageous penalty). Being used to Warnockesque rants about all and sundry, he seemed too accepting of his fate. However...

"Players heads have been down last couple of weeks.Sod has not been his usual self.Did they know something we did not.Time for club to make a statement me thinks"

(From Donny board).

Early days yet but if Donny jump to the same conclusion we have about Birch's comments, or any contact has been made, or indeed SO'D has applied then I would have thought something will come out of there today. Radio Sheff will be onto them without doubt.
