It seems that in the past 7 or so seasons there are lots of Blades out there who will always believe that the team will finish in the top two if not Champions, (many are part of the South Yorkshire Window Tasting Team) and probably equally if not more doom mongers who year after year gleefully predict that we will be relegated as everyone we sign is shit and all the players we sold were world beaters.
Lets have honest predictions as to where we will finish this season.

If Blackwell can keep a settled squad all season, play-offs but I don't think we'll have that extra something to challenge whoever takes the division by the scruff of the neck.

Depends on if we can get a couple more solid players in.

Play offs.

A bit early to be asking, but like Revolution I'll go with 8th. It's the spot we've finished most often in my lifetime.

When a similar post was put on a month or so ago i thought we'd be around 4th, but since we have made some terrible signings i am going with 14th in a full blackwell season and if he is sacked because of a poor league position then 10th. Oh and just for the record i don't think he will get the boot unless we are danger of going down.

Walton aside, who are these 'terrible signings' we've made in the last month that make you think we'll be 10 positions worse off in the league ?

I'll hazard a guess that Kozzy will not even make the bench for Cardiff before you come back with that one.

The bookies usually have this kind of thing about right. Where do they see us?

Bizzare Fleety, he can play both full back positions (postions we're rather light on) yet you don't think he'll make the 18? I know there are a few weeks to go and I expect a fair few defenders to come in but I'll be amazed if he's not on the bench, and if a few deals fall through I could see him starting.

Kozzy will make the bench he is one, Ertl is another squad player at best, walton was one, and i don't think boggy will be a good signing. (no better than what we have anyway). Sorry i failed to put the lack of signings has changed my league position 10 places. Hope i,m wrong Jim but i haven't any confidence in that current squad or the rumoured signings.

Agreed, I'd have thought the luxury of signing experienced players to not even be in the first team squad was beyond us.

Go on Len, be brave actually post where you think we will finish. After all its what the thread was setup for.

I'm going for playoff place, top 4.

Happy enough with the signing of Britton, up front looks covered but we still have only one out and out centre half and two full backs Im not overly excited about.

I had hoped we would try to sign two quick fullbacks that could attack as well as defend. Without this we are a bit static and predictable.

I cant really see us getting these type of players it looks more likely we will be signing "can do a job in a couple of positions" sorts.

Hope Im wrong but I predict between 8 to 12th. Two or three decent signings could make the difference though.

Depends on these three rumoured signings obviously but let's say for arguments sake we sign Nyron, Bartley and Dickinson, Ertl would cover the CB, I would hope Lowton would be on the bench ahead of Kozzy and I also think Taylor is ahead of Kozzy in KB's pecking order. I take your point that Kozzy can cover both sides but lack of signings / injuries apart, I really don't see Kozzy pushing the squad.

I am placing my prediction on the current squad and signings. If we bring in 3 or 4 good signings it would make all the difference.

Go and have a lie down Bob.

Depends on when Blackwell is sacked. Assuming he stays all term I'll say 13th.

Put it this way DP, Blackwell's whole game plan is based around the defence so do you honestly think there won't be at least 2 more coming in ?

For the record, my prediction was based on presuming there will be !

Depends on what happens with loanings etc.
Current squad is bottom half which is where I'm guessing the bookies have got us.

great minds think alike Mic ;)

we have to assume that 'hoofy' will be staying the full season. He is a yes man and I'm sure that McCabe won't sack him. Whilst ever the wage bill keeps falling, we bring in revenue from players and don't flirt with relegation the board will be happy. I expect pure mediocrity this season from a mediocre manager and bunch of players. I have to say that at the moment (i.e. with the current squad and no more additions) then we are relegation fodder. My 13th prediction includes us signing a few extra defenders. Still regardless of 'king Kev'' (no doubt lacklustre) performance in the transfer windonw between now and August we'll have a threadbare squad.

Randomness and luck will play an element this season and we could be anywhere between 6th and 18th depending on injuries etc. Still I'd be amazed if we challenged.

It's wide open with the favs still around 7s/8s. Boro, Forest, Burnley and QPR are up there then there's 8 teams separated by very little in the market, Us, Leeds, Ipswich, Reading, Cardiff, Norwich, Leicester, Brizzle and Hull. Bottom line is, they don't really know any beter than we do.

We will finish 8th this season..... followed by second in 11/12 :)

We're following the pattern from 02/03, 03/04, 04/05 and 05/06 :D

Blimey len, that's positively positive! Only a couple of weeks back you had us in a relegation battle, which is your default position, now you're just saying bottom half.

Oddschecker has us in 12th, which is technically top half and I recckon's probably about right. If you accept 13th as bottom half, you and I would be almost in agreement, though I realise 21st would suit you better.

He is a yes man

What does that mean? He's employed to work within the constraints set by the board.

Are you expecting him to resign because his budget isn't what you'd like it to be? Or are you suggesting his managerial decisions are actually those of his superiors and he's actually just a puppet?

Bruce quit because he expected to be given the moon on a stick. Bassett never quit despite working for a succession of clowns. So was Bassett a "yes man"? Is Bruce the model to follow?

I know which I'd prefer.

Currently I think 7th, but with a couple of decent signings then we could get 4th

I'm basing that on the league being truly shite next season, chocful of dreadful teams which should keep us safe - particularly if we do ok at home.
But it looks very much like another step on the slope of decline, smaller crowds, poorer team etc.
Longer term, with the debt we have, lack of quality management, it's difficult to see where we're going.

Speaking of patterns, we should be hoping Reading win the league then we're nailed on runners-up.
