God's country ...... Rovrum!
Seems the failed Chinese consortium that tried to takeover Boro may have turned their attention to Barnsley and are apparently in advanced talks

What would be your thoughts be should we be targeted? We are a realistic target in my opinion because we are a potential prem club with infrastucture and fanbase and as the available list gets shorter with many of the larger clubs already under foreign ownership you would expect that sooner or later we will be on the radar

Better the devil you know?

Let's go for it because it's the only way we'll ever get back to the Prem?

If you're that bloody rich, it doesn't matter about the infrastructure. It matters that you're not far from the Prem because these people are impatient. It matters that your club has a history because these people are all about status. It also matters if you're in London, because how many billionaires want to spend time in the provinces?

So Barnsley is an odd choice...

As for us, I want to keep safe all the things that make United what it is. Any investor has to meet that criteria.

Foreign investors that way - exit

PL, shove it up yer arse

Won't happen for as long as Mcabres got his mits on the ground, he doesn't want to sell, he just wants investment.

It won't happen to us.

We have the Prince on board and thats all we need.

Southampton are also being bought by the Chinese for £210 million

Basically any investor that buys a Premier League club for that kind of money whilst overlooking Sheffield United must be completely stupid and have the business sense of an antelope

Yeah, owning the ground makes him fortunes.......

Still, when he builds those solid gold mansions on the site and people flock to live there from Dore, he'll be laughing.

I think KM may leave it to us, in a trust, when he goes. If he did that, he'd be immortalised. If you were him how would you like to bow out?

FA Cup win.

But gifting the ground would be good.

Only kidding, like him I'd be quite happy just making loads of money from the club every season. Why would I sell?

They've only said that they intend to give MODEST investment to Barnsley which won't be any good to them.
So not sure what their motives are but it's not promotion to the PL.

As soon as Chinese Dave has sold his takeaway and put it all on one number on the roulette table, we'll be laughing.

This isn't the place for facts. The key word is "billionaire".

This is at the time when Barnsley (not the club) have just been given a 150m grant to 'do it up'

Is owning a football club still seen as an investment?
To get any money worth having you have to be in the prem but then you have to spend it all to maintain that status. Everybody has now wised up to people buying clubs to asset strip and since the Yanks did their buying the club and paying themselves back out of club funds I believe this too has been stopped. The only way to make money out of football is by gaining promotion to the Prem on a shoestring and staying there by the same means, an almost impossible task.

Stupid indeed when you could buy McCabe and the Prince out for £2.

And why is he on about "big dogs" now Sean? Has he started hanging out with Westwood?

For me, no owner or majority shareholder who has no link to the club. I've often been critical of McCabe's business decisions regarding the club but never of the man and his intentions towards the club (I don't understand why some people can't separate the two), I appreciate that he will never allow the club to fold and I guess he knows what the backlash would be if he tried to move us, if he even wants to. So overall I would rather he be in charge than some foreign billionaire who only wants to show off to his mates because he's got a team called Sheffield Super Blades who play in an all red strip at the Coca Cola Arena in the M18 Industrial Park somewhere in the lower half of the PL.
Ideally, though, it would be good if some numpty with more money than sense invests heavily whilst having no control, allowing us to compete, build a new kop and yet keep us out of any frightening levels of debt.

Which clubs have been asset stripped?

The Glazers repaid loans out of income, via dividends etc. they do own the club and it's hardly bankrupted it.

It's worth bearing in mind Villa were struggling and Bruce yesterday turned to their youth team. He got more out of a couple of kids than some of his multi-millionaires. Money can only buy so much advantage at this level, after that, it just starts getting wasted.
We can progress with a good youth set up, excellent scouting and a canny manager, like Wilder.
We can't throw huge amounts of money at promotion but we can work very hard in making sure we achieve excellence in the academy, recruitment and player development . That's what I want the board to do; with the guidance of Wilder and Knill, make sure we are the best we can be in those areas.

As much as McCabe can irritate me with some of his business decisions, I'd want him to still own some of it even if we got a Billionaire in, he understands the club even if he occasionally sells our best players for not enough money and attaches hotels to the ground.

If I was him I'd be leveraging our history and support to try and get a stupidly rich amateur investor involved, someone who is youngish and likes football but doesn't want to run a company or team.

I'd rather be in our position than S6's though, tunaman probably isn't worth much more personally than McCabe if 100million is about right, and he seems to have precluded any possibility of other investment and even sponsorship. They bought LED hoardings and the only thing on them was D Taxis which is a fake company. If his family don't want in anymore then they're fooked. Look at Forest, and Coventry.

I'd love a load of millionaire Blades to group together and chuck in some dosh for no promise of a return in an ideal world.
